Swiss police have arrested Ali Abunimah, executive director of The Electronic Intifada, in Zurich.
Justice
You think putting arrest warrants out against the ICC for applying the same standard to every country is ‘justice’?
That’s concerning.
Isn't it just sanctions and travel restrictions I assume to mean bans, not arrest warrants?
Maybe 'detained' by the Swiss authorities is a better word, Abunimah hasn't been charged with any criminal offence.
The main reasons given by Swiss authorities are:
- Security threat: Mario Fehr, the Head of the Department of Security in Zurich, labeled Abunimah as "an Islamist Jew-hater who calls for violence"
- Travel ban: The Swiss federal police (Fedpol) granted a request to ban Abunimah from traveling to Zurich
- Controversial statements: Abunimah has been accused of making anti-Israel statements, including claiming that "Zionism is one of the worst forms of antisemitism in existence today"
- Support for militant groups: He has reportedly praised Hamas and Islamic Jihad attacks on Israel as "resistance"
- Disputed views on October 7 events: Abunimah allegedly tweeted, "There is no credible evidence of a single rape on October 7," and has written about what he calls false claims of rape by Palestinians on that date
They were taken from an IDF observation post on October 7, so technically they're probably IDF.
Has Abunimah called for violence in Switzerland?
Had to laugh when the ch7 news said “ when the 4 women soldiers were released” really.
Trump's pushing to "clear out" Gaza with direct approaches to Jordan and Egypt to take 1.5m Gazans.
I think it's evident that you can take Israel on their word that dismantling Hamas is and always has been their goal.
Your gif makes some valid points, but what do you disagree with exactly?
If Israel's goal was 'genocide' and 'ethnic cleansing' of the area, then the could have been much more vicious militarily and they could have even punched holes in the borders to facilitate displacement. But they didn't and they ensured that aid got in. Looks like conventional warfare to me.

Of course the company line from Egypt and Jordan is that they don't want to allow Gazan's to be displaced due to it giving Israel a "win" because their underlying goal is a land grab of Gaza, but I think it's evident that you can take Israel on their word that dismantling Hamas is and always has been their goal.
Israel have taken more land. So some things have changed.I was born in the 70s and watched countless news reports of the wars and crimes in the middle east
50 years on and it appears nothing has changed
