War over Warnock

Doesn't that therefore put Carlton in the box seat?

If he's in the ND, Carlton will probably take him @ pick 24.

Melbourne are seemingly reluctant to offer pick 17 or 19 and would presumably be equally unlikely to take him in the ND (depending of course on what was available at those picks).

How do you know Melbourne are reluctant? Fremantle could take him at 21 if he's still there. Or any other club with picks before 24. If Carlton wanted to guarantee they got him, they'd have to pull the trigger at 6.

Freo will bend over im afraid.

Pick 24 is better than nothing, they'd be stupid to let him go in the Pre-Season draft. :thumbsu:

They sure will. Not only is #24 better than nothing, I believe it is adequate compensation for someone of Warnock's age and experience in the AFL.

You do realise that the rules have changed and Warnock can now enter the national draft and be drafted by any club? If Melbourne want to guarantee that they get him, they have two choices. Trade for him (pick 17 or 19) or take him with pick 1. What would you prefer?
And why would he agree to go there?

You do realise Warnock has to agree to a trade don't you?

If he refuses then Freo have no choice but to end up with nothing because even if they try to arrange a 'Veale deal', Warnock can upstage that by going into the National Draft instead which means any club can pick him and then Melbourne either end up picking him with their remaining pick (the one they didn't offer in the Veale deal) and effectively lose BOTH picks 17 & 19 or another club picks him up in which case Melbourne lose the pick they gave to Fremantle and get nothing in return.

No value in it for Melbourne at all unless Warnock agrees to the trade.

Well obviously the trade only works if he agrees to go. My post was in response to someone questioning why Melbourne would trade a pick for him if they can get him for free in the draft.

So Fremantle would give up pick 21, but are unwilling to take pick 24, whilst retaining pick 21.

Encourage him into the National Draft then and take him at 24 then.

If Icke is 100% right he will be there ...no dramas - surely no one would pay more?

God bless the AFL and this wonderful system we have ..where a team can say this is fair, we say it is not and a short time later we can see who is right 100% no arguing.

The marketplace can't lie - I am guessing he wouldn't even get to Melb.

If I see the names Redden, McKernan and Warnock on a page in front of me and I am St Kilda ...I know which way I go.

If 24 you dont think he is worth more then move on.

Why cant you move on? Because he is worth much more, especially to the blues who need a ruckman and you know it.

Just admit it and add Browne or Bower so everyone can move on

SCENARIO -

If Warnock goes into National Draft will he be there at pick 24?

With Melbourne, Richmond and Port before you, not a chance in hell.

He is worth more. Pay up or give up

No chance we will get him for just pick 24 now.

If Freo do, they will be the biggest laughing stock of the AFL.

I think he is going to the Draft unless the Blues offer something else

We are unwilling to give him to Carlton for pick 24. If we take him at pick 21, we gain his services for another 2 years.

NOT once has warnock said he did not want to got 2 melbourne.this is all crap from carltons manager ICKE.
Melbourne will most likely do a trade with freo 2morrow which will involve 19.
for those clowns that stated that warnock only wants to go 2 carlton get a life.

If that were the case, why wouldn't those clubs just offer a pick NOW to Freo, therefore ensuring certainty.

Yeah but then again it's your loss.

We're not the ones with Warnock, you are. We don't get him, we still get to pick up a good kid at 24 whilst you get nothing.

Win-win for us.

Your forgetting Warnock.

Lose Warnock and get 24 (we already have 21)

Versus

Keep Warnock and use 21 ...we have already said we think he is worth more than 24 - my guess is he will be GAWN long before us.

Warnock at 21 ...there is our back up ruck.

Incorrect. Various sources have stated that he has refused to be traded to Melbourne (CH10 News + Herald Sun). You blokes have been chasing him for months trying to entice him with dodgy Powerpoint presentations and still don't understand that he does not want to play at Melbourne.

Ever thought of what the player wants or doesn't he matter. He doesn't want to be at Fremantle! He wants to be in melbourne somewhere. Also why does fremantle deserve more than pick 24 for him? He's not even freo's starting 2nd ruckman. He's their reserve ruckman isn't he? I believe pick 24 is perfectly reasonable. He's definately not worth number 6 like freo want.

True to a point.

You win on the draft front ..with keeping 24.

You lose on the field where your ruck combination will face another year of getting smashed.

Name me the teams next year that you rate your current ruck combination over?

I'll help by starting you ....Melbourne (unless they get Warnock), Gold Coast ...now you go?

It should be very easy for you to find a link to one then and post it here ...I have heard preference, would rather but no refusual.

Let me guess ...you don't have time?

Those very same media outlets were the ones telling us that Warnock was going to play for Melbourne in 2009 and be re-united with his brother. There doesn't appear to be any direct quote from either Warnock or his management that he will not play for Melbourne.

Remember, Colin Young does everything via the media. We have had a season full of rubbish because Daniel Kerr wanted a contract extension. The man doesn't know how to negotiate so he attempts to put pressure on clubs through the media or by getting an AFL appointed mediator . He's got no shortage of nuff nuff's who are willing to broadcast his propaganda.

I think most freo supporters realise that pick 24 is insulting and would prefer to see him go for nothing than get bent over again.

The club is making a stand for it's supporters and pride in general. If Carlton refuse to budge from pick 24 for a player they clearly desperately want, then off to the draft Warnock will go.

Proud freo supporter right here.

So what mate?

That was the plan when we drafted our kids anyway (to do it 'the hard way'), Warnock didn't come into calculations until later in the year so he is more of a 'bonus' than anything else.

If we don't get him, we stick with our original plan of keeping with the Kreuzer/Hampson combo and manage them through. Yeah it might delay us but it won't be for more than 6 months to a year.

Not a huge loss.

Interesting. So what about Warnock tells you that he is ready to compete against the best ruckmen in the league in 2009? Hasn't he mostly been getting smashed himself to date, despite improving? He is still a developing ruck, not an established one.

Honestly, do you think Warnock is really going to boost our ruck stocks from day one? Isnt he just a 21 year old kid with a bit of size that still needs a few more years development? Please tell me we are talking about the same player...
