As per the title - Warners officially retired from T20s with the BangBros unable to get the win against AFG.

It's an exciting time for Australian cricket as we get the rare moment of being able to play the selection game, instead of just picking the same squad every time.

Who would you put in as opener to replace Warner?

Jake Fraser-McGurk for me.

Id imagine there will be a cleanout to this side, 2022 was the warning sign.

Tim David, Mitch Marsh, Wade, Agar, Warner, possibly 1 of the 3 test pacemen to go. Maxwell is showing signs of decline in the IPL this season, and he may have 1 more World Cup in him. He has already stated he will try to play as much IPL as his body can allow him. Internationals is no longer his number 1 priority.

AGREE.

time for a clean out.

we beat oman, namibia, scotland, bangladesh and england.
losses to afghanistan and india.

in saying that 20/20 can be hit and miss and you only need a good performance by one bat and one bowler to win, in a 3 hour game.

not sure marsh will be cleaned out, given that he was just handed the captaincy.

He'd be a strong chance of losing his captaincy though. I have no doubt he is a better player without the captaincy burden. I wouldn't mind if Pat Cummins retook the gig back for all forms. Just seems alot more assured with his decision making.

Marsh is a 'see ball, hit ball ' player. As soon as there are other things on his mind, it can affect his game.

We shouldn't be having pat play all three forms......just tell him to concentrate on the tests

100%, let him play hit and giggle for the big bucks in periods where we aren't scheduling tests/ODIs anyway. Doesn't need the national duties for t20 as well

Mitch Marsh on flat tracks of Australia is a gun but low slow pitches has and never will be his go, should have been left out of this tournament

Another thing to consider is that the game/World Cup is every bloody 2 years....it's time to have more specialists and to lessen the demand on the all format players. Yes some can play but you want the majority of the team at least 8 IMO being just t20 specialists.....this also includes the coaches....they get tired as well .

Coaching Playing all three forms being away on countless flights...hotels....just wears you down...time for Cricket Australia to break it up a bit and look at specialist coaches

This has been a long time coming - the first team to nail splitting the teams across formats will likely have a strong period of domination. It simply isn't possible to play everything anymore - Hell, even bloody Zippy withdrew from the IPL and he only plays white ball

Yup 100% poms started doing it first.....

its just the amount of games....players just can't keep up along with all the stupid t20 tournaments around the world

England definitely look like they're doing it way better than Aus or India are - it's not to say the test players can't earn their nut like the white ball boys do, we're always going to have big gaps in test play for them to jump into IPL or similar money making shit.

Are England really doing it better? All 3 formats is that hit and miss in England, they’ll go all the way one World Cup and not make it out the group stage in the next… they’ll win a Test series and get spanked the next.

Doing it better in the sense they have more diversified squads. You can put their overall best XI into all three squads and it isn't going to improve their results

oh no, open to unretiring...
