What did Wayne Jackson do?

The Fremantle and Port Adelaide expansion clubs were set up under Oakley's watch, Fitzroy's death - Oakley, West Coast success - Oakley, setting up Docklands - Oakley.

The only signficiant move made under Wayne Jackson's watch was shutting down Waverley, which the AFL I'm sure are thrilled with today, given the supposed need for another cheap stadium in Melbourne.

Funny how WJ was the guy who setup the "Competitive Balance Fund" (CBF) to ensure teams like North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs survived. Yet of course Victorians don't see this as "significant".

Much better to have an old, out-dated, hard to get to, poor excuse for a stadium like Waverly then to ensure the AFL remained a 16 team competition and that NM and WB survived.... careful you're starting to sound like South Australians who enjoy AAMI.

Wayne Jackson = one of the best AFL commissioners ever.

Stop crying because your club is broke. And stop crying because many intelligent people see a bigger picture that doesn't involve clubs like North who can't stand on their own two feet.

said perfectly :thumbsu:

rellocate or fold, anyone who thinks teams like the dees, doggies and north have a long future in victoria they are deluded. Stop whinging and using sentimental shitty arguments in order to not allow the afl to move on.

Honestly i am so sick and tired of the victorian dominance in the afl and i'm born and bred victorian.

Waverley had a much lower BE point then the TD and still drew comparable crowds - 34-38,000 average in its last 2-3 years of existance.

In fact if a club like North played 11 home games at Waverley, they'd have the capacity to easily shut off 1/4 of the ground in order to cut costs and make a profit on all their home games, even those that draw 15-20,000, not to mention taping into a community and aligning themselves with a region.

North knocked back $100m to go to The GC. The AFL sit there and say "yes, despite what happened, we will support them".

Lip service. The AFL will claim they are helping but will leave North's survival in North's hands - and we all know what that means. The AFL have an obligation to help clubs in hard times, but these aren't hard times for North. They're not having a bad trot. This is business as usual for them. If they can't survive, let them fold.

That club makes me so mad. BB i couldn't agree with you more.

Maybe Melbourne, North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs should all merge into 1 team:

North-West Melbourne: Demon Kangadogs

ARRRWWWOOLLLLLL :D

sounds crazy but they probably should. Neither teams have a great presence in the afl in terms of dominance and rivarlries, the areas border each other, yeah good idea :D

What a BS scenario... North Melbourne playing games over in the Eastern suburbs. Even fewer North supporters would travel half way across the Melb metro then they do to TD. And I would presume that community is already entrenched into existing clubs like Hawthorn, St Kilda and Richmond. Also close off portions of the ground... then why have it?

Anyway, there were other factors in the waverley sell off then gameday. The VFL/AFLs HQ was based out there and wouldn't have been the ideal location out in the Western suburbs. Relocating to a central CBD location made business sense for the AFL administration (and they couldn't goto the MCG).

Why take the emotion out of it?

Yes, it's a business ; but it's a business that works because hundreds of thousands of fans have a passionate commitment to their clubs, and pay money to become members, to attend games, to watch it on pay tv, etc.

The game's heartland will always be in Melbourne. Saying there are 'too many' clubs here is like saying there are too many opera houses in Italy, too many Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, etc.

But Norths Chinese restaurant losing lots of money, and MFC's Opera house is operating at a substancial loss!

If you put your head in front of your heart you know WJ is right!

congratulations, that puts you on the same level as bunsen-burner.

What exactly is your grudge against North? The fact that we got Carey & Longmire when your club was too dim to realise their value??

You expect the AFL to bail you out
you will not do what you need to to survive
you think you are 'above' rellocation
you are a cancer on the afl

I hate the way you rely on sentimental sympathy of other victorians and i hate the way you don't face up to reality and realise this is an AUSTRALIAN competition now NOT soley a victorian one.

We are a viable club now, we were forced to rellocate to a city that had no time for AFL but now we're fine now, north are not.

Also having a team in sydney is important for the AUSTRLIAN footbally leagues objective of growing the game. Propping up struggling vic clubs will soon be seen for what it is; undermining the AFL objective and the afl will let you fold accordingly.

Let's see who to listen to:

A) Wayne Jackson: Former CEO of AFL, whose credentials >>> Vlad (current CEO of AFL). Who completed studies at Univeristy of Adelaide and at Havard Business School... who's Alumni contain the following:

- Michael Bloomberg, businessman and Mayor of New York City
- Susan Decker, President of Yahoo
- Walter A. Haas, Jr., former Chairman and CEO, Levi Strauss & Co.
- Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment
- Rick Wagoner, Chairman and CEO of General Motors
- Allan Moss, CEO Macquarie Bank
and...
- George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States (ok ok ... that is nothing to be promoting :p)
.. to name a few.

B) Short-sighted, biased Victorian supporters: whose credentials >>> toliet paper. Who attended Sunshine Prep School... who's Alumni contain:

- Jacko57
- Stickman11
- PottSie2
- Hawkk

Hmm... gee... tough decision :p

So you're a viable club NOW, so getting financial support from the AFL is NOW a bad thing.:rolleyes:

Vent your spleen all you like, professor, North will be around for a long time to come, whether you like it or not. Here's hoping our teams will meet in September, with just 18 on the ground each. :)

Not that it really means that much, but I do have a university degree (Bachelor of Economics)...........and you?

yeah it is, there was always going to be a long term pay off when AFL became big in sydney so afl assisstence wasn't in vain. Giving clubs like north assisstence undermines the afl's objective to grow the game. It's ridiculous having 10 teams in victoria with only 6 interstate teams.

That is another thing i hate about north, you seem to be unable to look at this topic rationally.

meh, i'm not venting, i'm just saying don't cry when you fold, you had your chance to rellocate and didn't.

Yeah hopefully we play you in the finals and hopefully our goals will be counted as goals. :)

It pains me to say this but Jackson is right and I wouldn't be suprised if a Victorian based club or two goes soonish. There's no way the AFL will be able to sustain 10 clubs in Victoria while trying to support West Sydney and Gold Coast and possibly even a Tasmanian team at the same time.

Clubs such as Melbourne, Kangaroos and the Bulldogs will most likely crumble and turn bankrupt. What would be even worse is if the current dilema involving Sonny Bill Williams and the salary cap issue forced the AFLPA to take action against the salary cap in the AFL. Powerhouses clubs such as Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton would start to widen the gap considerably between the lower supported clubs such as the ones I mentioned.

People such as Brayshaw, Smorgon and Stynes are only prolonging the inevitable in my opinion and this is coming from a die-hard Demons supporter.

I look at it emotionally because (as I said in an earlier post), the business that is AFL is built on the emotions of the fans who follow the game. The AFL would be very short-sighted to take this facor out o the equation.

I also look at it rationally. I don't believe it makes sense to undermine a strength (the dominance of AFL in the Victorian market) in order to try to expand the game into markets that will not embrace AFL for many years, if ever. Take North & Melb out of the AFL, it eliminates the support/interest many/most of those who currently follow them ; it's also 1 or 2 less home games for fans of the other, bigger Vic clubs to attend every year. It's not the simple equation that simple minds seem so eager to endorse.

And I won't cry IF we ever fold, if you promise to stop whining while we continue in the AFL. :)

It's people like you i have the upmost respect for :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Do you think the dees will rellocate? If so will you follow them or do you think you'll choose another vic side, or pass on afl altogether?

Not that it really means that much, but I do have a university degree (Bachelor of Economics)...........and you?

Either A) the above is false or B) you didn't learn much via the program. If you did complete the program and if you are educated in that field... then you wouldn't be dribbling half the trash on this thread. You would realise that WJs statements make ecomonically accurate for the AFL's future.

My education is irrelevant. I am simply defending WJs intelligence against moronic BF posters who think their knowledge is a weeing contest.

We all sit here posting our thoughts thinking they matter, thinking we matter and that we make a difference. Facts are F' All of us actually work our butts off, use our brains, our thoughts and get into positions where we do make a difference. WJ did... and you losers just sit here bagging him for comments he made which he has more knowledge about and given more thought to then you or anyone else posting on BF.

You don't have to agree with his opinions and wont given club bias... but FFS an educated person should atleast know when to respect someone elses opinions.

I doubt the Dees will rellocate now that Stynes has taken over. He will probably sacrifice a lot to make sure the club and will see past 2012 once the new teams have come in. However those sacrifices will likely prove to be costly in the end.

If they do end up folding or rellocating (which I hope never happens) I doubt I'd find another club to go for. If they rellocate I might have a soft spot for that team, but I can't find me rellocating myself to wherever they would go, and instead would just watch them whenever they came to Melbourne. Let's just hope the Demons discover a secret gold mine underneath their new Olympic Park rennovations that are starting to look shakey as well.
