I hate the anti Boyd stuff hes played his guts out for us and like most players he has his deficiencies'.
He didn't have AFL handed too him he
made it the hard way.
It's strange that the only report is from woof about this practice match, especially if Stringer kicked 6 in the first half. Not even a tweet from Stevo (staphy)! He means Jordan Kelly - pretty sure that's a report from either here or Woof that made its way on Fb.
Stringer is killing it as a forward this pre-season
I think your question is far too complex to answer at this stage. We haven't seen enough evidence under match conditions to make any worthwhile assessment. You may get a better idea after the NAB Challenge games.Question for training watchers, how is the connection between our two main forwards (Boyd and Stringer) coming along, is Boyd playing the deeper option with Stringer being that hit up target on the lead and also how is Stringer kicking the majority of his goals (contested marking/leading target/stoppages) because I think he has the rare ability to kick goals from all of those opportunities, when many of the great forwards can only do a couple of these things.
If this practice game went ahead and Stringer did kick 6 in a half (which really is in a quarter of a normal game) The players who played on him shouldn't be sighted in the seniors all season.
This would really only be a forward ruck role you'd hope, like a JPOD etc, just to minimise the lengths Minson has to run around the ground and utilise him to create a quick kick zone defence at the top of our forwardline.I understand the positives that may be gained by training Tom Boyd in the ruck....but I have my reservations about it usefulness both in the immediate future and long term. I think I might wince everytime he goes up against an AFL monster while he's still learning the game at the highest level.

Like you i'd be very reluctant to see Toyd in a resting ruck role anywhere outside our 50M..
Gotta get their match endurance up maybe?I'd be surprised if they played match sim on Saturday after playing Thursday. The guys went hard Thursday.
Stringer and boyd were working well together, alternating between playing deep and working up the ground.
I've been very impressed by Talia on each occasion that I've been down to training. I hope he's given a chance to build some continuity in his game at AFL level - it's critical that he feels he's being rewarded for effort & form.
According to his interview today he's lost 3-4kg so far
Yeah I think this sounds like the way to go. I know we all want a proper 2nd ruck/forward and of course I do too, but I'm just not sure it will work too well with our current ruck stocks. Don't get me wrong Minson is a machine but we all know he isn't much chop in other positions so its not ideal to partner him with someone like Campbell, seeing as they both need to spend a fair bit of time in the middle but then were losing too much around the ground. In saying that if Minno is going to spend a bit more time forward this year and Campbell has improved his fitness and mobility, well it could be really really effective. This would really only be a forward ruck role you'd hope, like a JPOD etc, just to minimise the lengths Minson has to run around the ground and utilise him to create a quick kick zone defence at the top of our forwardline.

T.Boyd my badBoyd?
He's definitely progressed - I'm more confident in his judgement & contested marking now.Hows his one on one defending progressing, I think that its vital that he makes sure he is working on that first and foremost because in my belief he should be taking the Nick Riewoldt, Taylor Walker, Jeremy Cameron types.

He could be the man to take those players, but so could Roberts, who is a better one-on-one defender and a more versatile option. I think both should play, along with Roughie. It gives us a lot of flexibility.
That's true.+ Moz as well, could be problematic to go 4 talls/tall medium defenders. As much as I love Moz, both Roberts and Talia should be breathing down his spine.
That's true.
Moz would be the first picked of the four, really. He's got too many credits in the bank to be edged out, and he won't be left to play on the behemoths this year. Who knows how long he could go on for.
Roughead is an automatic selection, so it comes down to one of Talia and Roberts. I'd give Talia the nod at this stage, but Roberts has flexibility on his side.
With Nic Nat, Lycett, Kennedy and McGovern I think we could realistically go in with Talia, Roberts and Roughead to round 1.
