So you're saying that we are in agreeance re what constitutes a real CHF? Fantastic. If that's the case then we must also be in agreeance that this type of player we are in agreement about does not actually exist on our list. Otherwise, I don't know who you've been watching when you go to the footy and see the guys previously mentioned play.

I'm glad that we can reach an agreement on all of this. Great news :)
Do you have comprehension issues?
Keep talking to the strawman in your head, I'm sure he's a fine fellow. He might even find your repertoire witty as opposed to tiresome.

Well thanks mate, Only the Two Sessions either side of new years. Very much looking forward to next weekend
I think we all are man. All excitement for mine this year. No expectations, just want to see the kids have a massive crack every week starting from next Saturday.

Everyone seems to have played at least one full intra-club game before the NAB challenge except us...? I know we've been doing match-simulation stuff but is this a mistake on the part of the coaching staff or just a sign that due the late appointment of Beveridge we are running behind and need more training rather than simulation?
I'm not sure what the difference is in match sim and practice matches. I just call it all Match practice. We have had at least 1 game where we had proper umps and everything and that was weeks ago. We seem to have 1 session a week where they train skills for an hour or so and then have a game. Shortened version of the real thing but none the less games. Because we have a pretty fit list the games have been very good hit outs becuase even there are plenty of numbers. I don't think we are behind in game, match sim, practice match whatever we want to call it. I think the preseason has been a good one so far.

I don't have him in our round 1 team, but we wouldn't need too many injuries for him to be needed. It's why I believe it was smart choice by the club to keep him on the list. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he plays round 1. This was my last attempt at a round 1 team and I have had players coming in and out based on what I have seen at training.

FB: Morris Roughead Picken
HB: Murphy Hamling Wood
C: Macrae Wallis JJ
HF: Crameri Redpath Dalhaus
FF: Dickson Boyd Stringer
R: Minson Bont Libba
I: Boyd, Jong, Hunter
S: Honeychurch
EME: Hrovat, Cordy, Daniel

IN: Hamling, Honeychurch
Out: Talia, Biggs

So Goodes could be some chance to be in that team in front of Jong, Hunter, Honeychurch, Hrovat or Daniel and if we have any injuries before round 1 then who knows. But as a mid.....he can pinch hit off half back but it's not his best spot.
Will be Grant instead of Dickson as he is more versatile around other parts of the ground.

Dicko has had a great preseason though. I think is Grant more likely to be vying with String and Cramers for that 3rd and 4th tall spot (who can spend some time midfield). Dicko is a forward specialist and I just think he's such a natural forward hard to see him not in the team round 1.

No point comparing Grant with Smith, apples and oranges.

Grant offers a very unique skill set if he can put it together. Grant is extremely quick and has very good footy smarts, knows where to run and how to dipose to the correct target. From a net benefit to the team perspective he can be just as useful as Smith.

If you watch the Collingwood game last year, Grant was severely underrated, he was involved (with good plays) in the vast majority of our goals many of which were attributed to his footy smarts (namely positioning himself).
Exactly. people should instead of going what other people write and say and in fact watch a game he has played. Has quick hands and quick thinking when it comes to tap on's and knock on's, and is very clever with footy in hand. and apparently this is his first full pre season without injuries, that's enabled him so far to increase his endurance so far. Because he can play almost everywhere on the ground, he is a lock in our starting line up imo.

I can't lock him in, but nothing would bring a smile to my face more than to see Spindles have a good year. He is so exciting when he's at his best and offers us that x factor that we don't have a lot of. I expect him to play all NAB cup and if he stars, the selectors will have a real issue on their hands, which would be nice.

I really don't get the obsession with Bonti to play CHF in future. He has shown already how much of a freak he is in the midfield and he is an absolute weapon there. He could be near impossible to match up on in the future in the midfield and just looks so naturual there. He definiely should be used down the forward line in stints but he will earn his worth in the middle. Nothing I've seen so far suggest he'd a an elite full time CHF option, marking is not one his strengths. His ability in packs and tight situations plus his freakish skills make him the perfect midfielder. Just think has already shown he will be an elite midfielder.
Ok here goes, they say bonti is simular to a pendlebury right? and he has the capacity to be like revolting right? (height) (Endurance) (skills). Now tell me what would you want at the club? a Pendlebury or Revolt in their prime. Id say Revolting.

I've yet to see much evidence he can be anything more than a part time forward, let alone be compared to one of the best forwards of the last twenty years. I think we need to let the kid develop and see how he ends up. Physical attributes are nice but actual talent for and understanding of the position is far more important, so far he has shown much more as a mid than he ever has as a forward.

With the grant debate.. I think he could work well with the other talls in the forward line. Considering they can switch into the midfield.

Stringer Boyd Rat
Grant Redpath Crameri

Looks the goods to me!

What do you think?

Looked good on Thursday. Such neat skills and a very smart defender. He could step in and play afl this year comfortably IMO.
Maybe pushing Boyd out of a back pocket spot at a point in the season?

He's still competing with the likes of Biggs, Darley and Picken if he plays back there for a spot so though there's a chance he'll play AFL you'd think it would be due to injuries that rather than ousting one of them. Still have big wraps on Pearce though.

Pretty much what I was saying. Calling us ordinary at this stage of our development might be technically true but relatively meaningless.

So now I'm technically correct but we will agree to disagree ? Technically you agree with me but just haven't been able to utter the words ! glad we got that sorted.

Happy with Nathanmj response as fair and balanced and didn't suggest I was harsh and incorrect to later after 4 responses telling me I was wrong - change his mind and admit I was technically correct.

I don't think he has shown any similar abilities to Riewoldt but height. Nick is the best runner I have ever seen, yes Bonti has good endurance but Riewoldt is on a another level. His gut running at games in his prime was a sight to see, he would literally burn opponents up and they were no chance. Plus he is huge physically, he would have 10 or 11 kgs on Bonti and yes Bonti can grow but I don't think he will ever be that size. To be a good CHF you have to be able to take marks on the lead but also be able to take them contested and crash packs. Riewoldt can do that but I have a very hard time seen Bonti being able to. As good as Bonti is he will never be at Riewoldt level as a CHF, he just does not have the tools. He has already shown he could match Pendlebury in the future but shown no where near he could match Riewoldt. He is midfielder and that's where e should be played.

I think seeing how its his 2nd year I am sure if you compared the two into their 2nd year the size would be almost similar, Bonts endurance for a 2nd year player is very good, and the only thing revolting would have over him imo is he would be a more better pack mark. I've met revolt a few times in person when I did security at their club, and he is not as imposing a bloke as he seems on the tele.

Dude when did I say you were incorrect? My contention was always that your opinion while (maybe) technically right was far too harsh and at the end of the day meaningless. I'm sorry if I gave you any other impression.
Not everything is a fight to the death man.
