List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

I would have been happy for 5 and 21, pick 30 is borderline useful but 48 is rubbish so I'm very happy that we held firm...talk about steak knives!!!

I'm hoping we are sounding out Greenwood he could certainly be a good depth player for us at pick 25

Might be useful at the Pies, too.

"The very pants I was returning ..."

I think i'm comfortable with 21 for Bundy and 5 & 25 for Beams. Pies are the self indulging w***ers setting imaginary dead lines. I'm happy to reward the club (Cats) that were happy to deal with us without kicking up a fuss. They had a player who for personal reasons wanted to leave, and they were accommodating and considerate of that players situation. Kudos to the GFC for being the bigger man. Complete opposite to the FIGJAMs at Collingwood who are in a similar position but are hell bent on putting themselves first and screwing everyone else over until they get what they want. No, i don't think i'd reward them with the better pick. Cats deserved 21.

I really hope Bundy can put personal issues behind him and move forward with his footy with us next year. Likewise i really hope Cats snag a great player with that pick 21.

5 and 25 just simply isn't good enough. He is contracted
Doesn't matter if his contracted. In 12 months time I would seriously doubt you guys will be getting anything more then our first round pick. Even then our first round pick will be around pick 7-12 range and we might have to use it on our Academy player Keays.

My god there is no base to these rumours, the media is just regurgitating crap spawned from speculation. Now that Beams isn't going to Brisbane, Melbourne look good because they have a couple of high draft picks. It makes as much sense as Jay Clark still bloody insinuating Aish might yet be part of the Beams trade because he still hasn't signed on. It is all guess work done by 'journos' who are no smarter than monkeys to get some headlines up to sell tomorrows paper.

*He's (he is), he's, he's, he's.
What is it with young people saying "his" instead of 'he's' all over the internet??
Driving me nuts.:straining:

A year in football is a LONG time. If he stays in 2015 who knows what he will be thinking at the end of the year? If Gold Coast make the finals and the lions struggle maybe he will be more open about his options and a bidding war will start

That's a bit hard on Daniel.

Collingwood is clearly happy and relaxed about keeping Beams, I mean, it's not like they were trying to desperately swing a complex 5 club trade today to move him on this afternoon or anything...

Consistency pls.

So the deal before us was picks 5, 21 and 25 for Beams, 30 and 48, according to the Age.

I've got to be honest, I'd have taken that deal. Even if it meant missing out on Christensen.

I think that's a pretty good deal for us.
It was a bit more complicated than that. 30 and 48 were going to Geel and the pick downgrades were value from the lamumba portion of the trade. Basically 30+48+Clark wasn't enough for Bundy and Varcoe out I think...

Sounds like we said to Coll "you can have 5+21 but you have an hour" they said 5+21+25 we said no thanks. The real difference between picks 21 and 25 is what North get for Greenwood so we backed in that if Coll agreed to 21 they'll cave to 25.

Maybe because Beams is one of our best players and Christensen is a fringe player... That might have something to do with it

Christensen isn't a fringe player.

If he is a fringe player then so is Steele Sidebottom.

Nope my dad heard we are big brissy fans Brad Hardie just said to watch this space. Hopefully his talking crap but better him going to dees than playing for that smelly poo of a side Collingwood!

Christensen a fringe player haha,I love it. If you're going to comment on a football forum you might want to watch a game or 2. Christensen when fit has been a lock in one of the best sides of the past decade. Nimrod

At the end of the day it was a stalemate.

You didn't want to lose young players for obvious reasons.

We have been to the draft and taken our fair share of 18 year olds and with the age profile of our list we didnt want draft picks.

Both sides of the argument are completely valid. It's unfortunate for Beams but footy is more and more a business these days. Personally i feel contracted players have a little too much power.

Still time left regardless of the 5pm deadline.
who knows what will happen.

Good job snaring Christensen.

Good post. Many Pies fans feel this way.
We've invested heavily in the draft recently, and traded for youth. Picks don't excite us, we're playing enough kids as it is. Hence our request.

I have a cunning plan.

I think most accept that the Pies would've accepted 5 + Greenwood if he was a Lion, because their PR needs to spin a "win".

We know that North will accept pick 25 for Greenwood.

So, Levi can just change his name by deed poll temporarily, a la "Whiskers" Hocking, to "Brisbane Lion Levi Greenwood".

Then the Pies' PR machine can proudly proclaim they got pick 5 and Brisbane Lion Levi Greenwood for Beams.

We all know Pies supporters aren't that bright, so they should totes buy it.

Simples.

LOL

All humour aside, this is probably going to happen. You can't blame us for trying to get more!
There might be further developments (ie: Griffen) that could alter the whole landscape, so you'd think this would drag on to Wednesday or Thursday.

This is what I don't get about Collingwood's 5pm stance. Ultimately everyone wants to facilitate Beams' move, because we all have the ability to show compassion. So why would we say "**** off" to Brisbane at some arbitrary deadline? I get we wanted to show some muscle, but unfortunately for us the bravado didn't work. There would still be plenty of water to go under the bridge over the weekend and next week had we chosen to continue to negotiate. Sure, we may be disillusioned with your football department and vice versa, but that doesn't mean they can't all get together for a common good. What's to say if negotiations were left open (but not an open dialogue between us two parties) another club couldn't have got involved? Commenting before the trade period is finished, but why would we cut off our nose to spite our our face o_O

If both parties happened to be at an impasse next Thursday, well, then so be it...

Good post.

Perhaps it was to try and rush the deal through, as big name trades tend to last all week/s.
We made our offer, and listened to a single counter-offer (the addition of 25). We made another offer on deadline day, but the availability of Christensen scuppered the deal, then Geelong's refusal of 38 & 40 apparently halted it again.
This suggests we're close, I think a deal will be done eventually.

It's funny Hine said Collingwood don't want picks we want ready made players. Then they inquire about Aish a player who has been in the system for 1 year and who they had the chance to get last year but choose not to. Then we hear today they were keen for the Lions pick they got for Patfull. Hang on you didn't want picks? Making it up as they go.

We were attempting to negotiate and softened our stance. 21 or 25 would have gone for Greenwood, leaving us pick 5 and one of 21/25/30 in the ND, with the other possibly going to Geelong for Varcoe.
I can't see us getting 23 from Melbourne for Lumumba due to the Trengove scenario, don't know what's going to happen there.

So the deal before us was picks 5, 21 and 25 for Beams, 30 and 48, according to the Age.

I've got to be honest, I'd have taken that deal. Even if it meant missing out on Christensen.

I think that's a pretty good deal for us.

I agree, but I think you'll still get both.

A very highly regarded fringe player (mainly due to injuries) that plays for a club that has performed much better in recent times than your mob...

Edit: in reply to Kappa

We're still trying to get Beams to Brisbane. We're not the evil dictators that people accuse of being. After all, we did pay some pretty hefty legal fees for him in 2010!

You also can't blame us for getting the best deal we can for our 2nd best player.

Christensen isn't a fringe player.

If he is a fringe player then so is Steele Sidebottom.

Neither are fringe players. Well done on Christensen!
