Not everyone has to be the top man. Just like on the field, great role players and competent people are more than enough to get the job done.

It’ll just be a case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians

Not sure about how football IQ. However, am sure about his competitive nature which was why he was my favourite player until he left.

One thing is for certain, the team will want to put in, you wouldn't want to walk in the rooms with Voss, Hamill or Williams in there if you didn't.

Another certainty would be that we'd win any football department stoush, ala Percy Jones and Tony Jewell. 😝😝

What next, Lachie Henderson to be announced as forward coach?

One finals appearance for the Saints during his 10 year coaching. Two bottom four finishes for Sandringham in the VFL with him as senior coach. Saints' list was probably rubbish during this period. Interesting to see how he goes at Carlton.

It doesn't instil great confidence.

10 years is a long time at one club, and they haven't been a good team for almost that entire period.

He may turn out OK for us, but his resume isn't that impressive...hasn't experienced coaching at a successful team, and has only coached at St Kilda.

What were the circumstances surrounding Hamills departure as a player? I was only early teens so really only knew about on field rather than any of the politics.

Wow … he really didn’t want to come back until Elliot was gone.

Looking through my juju goggles, I reckon Hamill leaving was a curse on Carlton. So recent events feeling like skies have cleared. It's time for Carlton to reclaim what we lost.

Yes. It's irrational. But no more so than not letting my sister into the lounge room on her 12th birthday (1982 GF day) because every time she did, the Tigers kicked a goal.

Adam Kingsley turned down Carlton's offer to leave Richmond & become the Senior Assistant at the Blues.

The reality is pretty much not one person on here knows whether he's an excellent assistant coach or not. Personal biases towards him and disappointment at the clubs previous failures determine people's attitudes.

I have no idea whether it's a good appointment or not. However I believe that Brian Cook is the best in the business. If he is signing off these appointments then I am happy to get behind them.

Many of us see Hamill’s departure as the beginning of the end for our club, so fingers crossed that his return is the start of something new.

Left in rather acrimonious circumstances, big falling out with Jack, salary cap saga year .. some would say that period put a curse on the club that we haven’t been able to shake.

I found it rather intriguing that on the day we roll out a new administration/coach and direction that Jack Elliott died. Now Hammil is back. Voss was the premiership captain in the year the club turned to shit in 02 by the way.

I’m not superstitious all that much but it’s rather interesting in the context of the modern history of the club and the Elliott curse and all that.

Welcome back Sammy no idea if he’s any good as a coach but glad he’s home.
