We will beat Port Adelaide

Won't win if Cheney gets the gig on Schultz, lock in a 10 goal hammering. Good to see the Swans game showed us that the Box Hill Hawks are a moral this season though.

I can't believe the lack of confidence here..I would imagine Clarko really earns his keep here...We have been knocked off by two challengers and he'll be drilling that into our players and they will play for pride as well as the 4 points..
this whole running capacity means nothing if Burgoyne and Hodge win their fair share of clearances and get it in the forward line quickly...one on one I think our forward beats their backline easily and our backs should cover their one big threat by helping each other...
be confident people...don't jump off yet... port are the challengers...but we are the premiers..

With regard to Port's fitness. They clearly have the best in the business in Darren Burgess. The guy has been involved in fitness at the absolute elite level, having been the head of the fitness and conditioning at Liverpool and the Socceroos.

With regard to this game. After the loss on Friday, and loosing Rioli and Roughead on top of our other injuries, I am certainly not confident. But if we can get back Hodge, Sewell, Shiels and Spangher we will be in with a fighting chance. But Im not sure that we will rush back that many underdone players.

I would like to see:

Out: Rioli (injured), Roughead (Suspended), Cheney (Omitted), Simpkin (Omitted)
In: Shiels, Spangher, Hodge, Sewell

That would make our 22:

Stratton - Spangher - Duryea
Birchall - Gibson - Hodge
McEvoy - Burgoyne - Lewis
Smith - Sewell - Hill
Shiels - Gunston - Bruest
Hale - Shoenmakers - Puopulo
Hallahan - Langford - Hartung - Suckling

There is still plenty of talent still in that team. But I fear that to beat Port at AO, you need to be at your absolute best.

I think Hawthorn are ripe for everyone including Port to write us off.. subsequently for Port to get a reality check on why we won the flag last year. This allure of Port suddenly being the fittest group out there is bullsh*t and media and Port spun hype....I'm tipping us to beat them. It may sound foolish to some. Clarko will have them tuned up to go there and win this game. There will be no better way for us as reigning premiers, undermanned to go over there and bring back the 4 points.

Agreed - and hasn't Hinkley played it beautifully both ways in convincing his own players of their superior fitness and getting into the heads of opposition teams.

Spot on. Hinkley has created a magnificent two-way mindf@#k here.

Anyway I can't wait for this game, it will be a cracker. Hawthorn seem to have a strong following here in Adelaide so I wouldnt be surprised to see 50,000 rock up.

If we play like we did against the Cats a few weeks back, we should win and win well, considering all the players you have out.
Looking at the probable line-ups, I don't think you have a suitable match-up for the Hoff. He is due for a big game as well.

I would say Stratton goes to Westhoff.

Stratton has been a little out of form mind you, due to his injury interrupted start to the year.

We probably won't beat them over there next week but another game against quality opposition for some of our kids will do us more good than harm.

Then the fixture opens up somewhat and given even luck we should be able to go into the Collingwood game at 9-3 (no disrespect meant to any of the teams we play between now and then) which is a most acceptable outcome. Once we get our premium cattle back on the park we will be fine.

It's quite baffling that a lot of you guys have conceded defeat already.

You guys really need an injection of confidence.
Hawthorn are one of the best teams in the last 10 years! You're 2nd on the ladder!

Thank you for your endorsement. There will be no better joy than to beat the fittest team on the planet. If we were 5% harder at the ball on Friday night in the last quarter we would have pinched that win from the $wans considering we were in the lead at the final turn. I kid you not 3 of the 4 goals the swans kicked in the last ..were..how would you say...extremely flukey. So no, Clarkson, I imagine will go over to win..not lose.

I don't think we have conceded defeat. I think, with a full-strength team we would go in as marginal favourites. Given our outs and the fact that Port is a damn fine football team, over on your ground it is going to be tough for us this time around.

I am still confident that we are a major player this season but your mob are a very impressive football club playing great footy, catching us at a time where we should be ripe for the picking.

It comes down to personnel. We've lost our two most versatile forwards in Rioli and Roughead. Mitchell is our only true A grade mid-fielder. (my view is we have a lot of B+ back-ups). Lake, well he's hardly played all year but he is important against teams with gorilla forwards. Schulz is not quite that but he has a tremendous records vs the hawks even when we used to pump Port during the Primus years.

However, my opinion is that we'll get a few back next week that will address some of the shortfall. Hodge, Shiels and Sewell all premiership players for a start.

The hawks are wounded and have backs to the wall so we will come to play. As for Port being a good running side, well I think we can match you in this department. Last two beep test record holders at draft camp in Hill and Hartung plus Izzy Smith will love the open spaces on the AO. I for one think we'll win, the bye coming at the right time for us, less so for Port who will stew for the next 2 weeks......

Should be interesting having Hill, Smith and Hartung vs White, Polec and Kane Mitchell.

I also don't mind the bye coming now because Lobbe and Jonas who were injured might not have made it to next week also guys like Impey, Cassisi etc would love the rest.

So I noticed. Apparently they had the third youngest team this week after Melbourne & GWS yet they're running out games better than any team in the competition. Absolutely nothing suspicious about that, seems perfectly normal.

What are you implying :mad::mad::mad:?????

Port might be underdone in the ruck stocks with their injuries, plus Susan got subbed out for them after little to no impact, whilst we will have:

Out: Mitchell, Rioli, Roughy
In: Hodge, Shiels, Spanger, (Sewell?)

It will be another good test for our boys. Port are playing well thats why they are on top!

I'm forever the optimist so predicting a Hawks win in a close one.
