The squad depth isn't there for Arsenal. Playing Sagna as a stop gap at CB isn't going to cut it, they need another CB in January. Giroud continues to surprise me though. Makes intelligent runs and times his runs well- just knows where the goals are. Big lump of a guy as well, decent in the air but I never ever thought he would be good enough to start consistently for Arsenal. All other parts of his game are very anti-Arsenal and pretty poor for a top 4 teams standard. He gives the ball away too easily sometimes and is too slow in his thought processes. He's improved in that area though and technically he's improved a lot since he first came. He's one of those guys that if he doesn't score, he's pretty much useless. He always gets into the right areas though, he's got that knack. Been surprised by him, seems alright. Maybe a good player comparison would be the left footed Mario Gomez.

Giroud has more to his game than scoring. His holdup play is fantastic, always providing defensive pressure and is probably our best defender at set pieces.

But everybody underrates his interplay with the mids. Brilliant at those little flicks around the corner and can provide an assist here and there. Just watch the second Ramsey goal.

He'll never be RVP-standard but he can definitely notch up 25 goals/10 assists in a full season.

Also Sagna is a better CB than a RB these days.

He's playing well and from what I've seen you're right in that he can always be relied on to put in a good shift in terms of applying pressure and presenting for his team mates. Having said that, the way I look at Giroud is that he's not the sort of player who will be able to consistently win games for Arsenal off his own boot. His form will tend to coincide with the team's form, if your midfield aren't creating chances then he generally won't be able to hurt teams. If I could liken him to a player from my own club I'd compare him to someone like Dirk Kuyt, very consistent all-round footballer with a very respectable scoring record over the journey, but not the sort of player you'd look at and say he's going to pull off some magic and win us the game today if the rest of his team mates aren't firing.

Giroud's passing isn't up to scatch and his flicks rarely come off. He made a good pass for Ramsey for the assist and he did another good bit of link up play earlier in the game where he did a flick for Wilshire who lobbed it to Walcott who couldn't head it on target. However he gives the ball away far too much, for a big guy his hold up play needs to be slicker, quicker and better. He's still a bit too slow in the mind. He has definitely improved since he's arrived though.

Sagna is by far your best right back, playing Jenkinson there for most of the season will be suicide. I actually don't mind Jenkinson, but he's not good enough yet. Sagna is a great crosser of the ball and is far better going forward than Jenkinson and overall a much better player at RB than Jenkinson. Giroud would appreciate a few quality crosses into the box...
Sagna isn't an option at CB long term. He was lucky with the Altidore challenge yesterday which should've been a goal, he got physically mauled by him and against quality teams he'll get found out there.

He also played in Walcott with one of those flicks but Theo tried to lay it off. I can count at least 6 assists from similar touches last season just off the top of my head. And I'm not arguing he is the next Thierry Henry anyway. Most strikers rely on service from mids.

And Sagna is the 4th choice CB - far better than a Djourou or a Squillaci. I'm not advocating for him to be first choice there. If anything, I'd prefer another RB over a CB.

Seriously will United just get rid of Young and Anderson. Young is a diving, cheating back yard bully and Anderson is just an overweight overpaid spud.

Nani and Zaha are ahead of Young, so is Kagawa but he doesn't play on the wing. With a full squad to choose from, I doubt Young will feature regularly, he's just not upto it.

And as for Anderson, unfortunately he will still get games because we are still short in midfield, but Fellaini will take his spot, far better player.

Januzaj looks good, but I'm not getting carried away. Would love it if he became a Silva type player for us in a couple of years, definitely has that look about him.

Soooo you're not getting carried away, but you think he could be a David Silva in a few years? Classic.

I rate Januzaj but I'd like to see him play at least a handful of senior games first.

I never said I think he will become a silva type player, I said I'd love it if he did. Still a lot of water to go under the bridge but he looks promising.

Januzaj has to be viewed as a player for the present, not one for the future, otherwise he is likely to go.

Want to see more of him.

"Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio on being sent off: "He came to me and said if you keep going with your manner I sent you up to the stand. I said to him 'if you want to complete a perfect job, you send me off.' And that is what he did. I will never invite the referee to send me off again.""
F*****g brilliant!!

Any United or Palace fans how did Jedinak perform against a top opposition?
Jedinak was good; extra good.

No Jedinak in the Palace side and they would be the easiest of easy beats. They'll still go down I reckon but with Jedinak, they are capable of giving a good account of themselves.
