Thing is, take out Jordan Dawson's kicking and he turns into a pretty mid talent.

Which is exactly what the downside people are seeing with Allan.

I'm with Squash. Whilst it's nice getting a "highly rated talent tipped to go earlier"… i honestly couldn't see why he was ranked so high in the first place. Loads of knocks on his game.
Dawson also doesn’t have anywhere near the athleticism of Allan.

How people can’t see a midfielder in an All Australian, fast, agile, powerful athlete with a penetrating kick and appetite for the contest is beyond me.

It’s almost like there’s a sorting hat that determines your best position at draft as a teenager, and you’re essentially incapable of learning any other position.

Allan more likely to make it as a mid than Ginbey which means we add a big strong body to complement Reid and Hewett whilst allowing Ginbey to settle long term as a HB/3rd tall defender

If Hall and Chesser can both develop as well we potentially have a pretty powerful midfield in years to come

Stoked that he lasted to our pick, although I do suspect that Melbourne/Richmond/St Kilda may have been feigning their interest in him a tad as a smokescreen for their preferred targets

That said he was often rated in the top 10 of a lot of rankings predraft so whilst there was some reluctance here towards him due to his Ginbey similarities , he has the ability to become a very good long term player for us

Stoked to have him

What is this based on?

I don’t think I’ve seen much that screams mid to me.

Pretty obvious mistake we made with Ginbey was throwing him into the middle way to early and without any real support.

Not everyone is built like Harley and some prospects need extra care in order to build them up and instill confidence in them.

Play Bo across half-back and let him and Ginbey build in confidence for a year or 2.

Allan, Ginbey, Hough and Baker is a great combination of pace, lockdown and genuine drive out of defence.

For what it's worth, I always thought Yeo would end up being an inconsistent low possession midfielder. The move into defence really helped him and therefore I think in 2 years time Bo and Ginbey will have a similar development.

Reminds me a lot of Jack Scrimshaw.

I mean that as a big compliment.

Welcome Bo... Crack in mate... With just 5% more skill improvement and awareness you'll be a beast... Hope you play 250 for us

Amazed people think this guy is vanilla given his ability to simply peel away from opponents at speed.

Worst case he's a good defender or defensively minded midfielder. Best case he becomes a midfielder who runs around opponents.

Pumped to have Allan at pick 16, this really turns around our whole offseason getting a gun player with what I believe to have the highest potential of nearly anyone in the draft.

Yes, a lot of that potential is based on his athletic profile, but the game is becoming a lot more reliant on athletes.

I think it's very smart to recruit local, the derth of quality WA talent means you're potentially building a club with higher risk factors (VIC players), while I hate that it comes to that and back our club to keep talent, it's smart to secure local talent when you can. So as much as Reid would have been a great prospect as well, I think with Allan you're getting security and a high potential elite talent.

His ball drop is a concern, but ticks just about every other box and seems a player built for the modern game.

After the disappointment of the trade periods it's great to have a player who's going to be exciting to watch.

Can't imagine what this team could become with Ginbey, Allan and maybe lure Curtin back home as well!

I wouldn’t personally call Dawson a mid talent given his ability to influence games even when he is restricted with the space he is given with ball in hand. He’s quality.

This year is quite interesting, though- for such a highly rated year there’s knocks on plenty in the top 15. So quite happy to look at the positives- he’s a great size- super athletic, has a real want for the contest & shown leadership qualities up til now.

For a pick in the mid teens, that’s a real solid foundation to work with. Im more confident in the selection than I would have been in Reid for example (who I think will struggle with both the physicality and defensive aspects at the next level)

What is this based on?

I don’t think I’ve seen much that screams mid to me.

Better agility

Better attack on the ball, less reactive

Also think he’s more naturally aggressive

McQualter has said we want to force turnovers earlier with speed. Allan suits that in my relatively uneducated opinion

How do you know? He’s played 40 games 😂

Who from his draft bar Wardlaw is currently impacting in the middle?
Even Wardlaw's not even a great example, though people will use him to compare to Ginbey to shit on Reuben.

Bloke averages just over 3 disposals more than Ginbey anyway.

Clearly a better clearance player though.

People are just seduced by the likes of Daicos, Sheezel, Ashcroft getting big numbers when they are far and away the outliers.

Mini has said we want Power & Speed so I can see why we are pretty happy with Allen. Langford has a question mark on his speed, Jagga has a question mark on his power/size, Draper would be the same. Allen fits
