He is starting to glide on the deck too. Definitely running better as the season has progressed.
A very tough preseason and poor start to the season for JOM but with the amount of quick players around him his composure and skills are very valuable to the team. Has filled some real problems for Freo on the wing, defense and even forward, not bad versatility when you think about it.

Ummmm is JOM clutch? Ices Saints game, ices Suns game, ices (in a sensible just kill the ball way) the Swans game.

Also, a handy wrecking ball at stoppages just quietly.

A few red faces on this board calling for his neck earlier in the season.

I’ve copped a lot of abuse defending him

People forget a bit how talented he was. That patella injury took yards off his pace and ability to run out games.

I think I've harped on about before but I remember popping into WAFL game at Lathlain just see him for a half (we lived in East Vic Park at the time and we hadn't had children yet; plenty of time to waste stalking potential draftees.). He was still 17 at the time. The opposition where tagging him (!). A close tag too. Still had 16 or so touches 6 tackles and a goal. The noise it made when he tackled people, it was terrifying. You thought the target would never get up again. Only injury prevented him being a top 6 player in the comp.

He is moving the freest he's been for at least 3 or 4 years right now to my eye. If we can get him up near 75% of his potential for a year or two it is HUGE.

Not redfaced. He was a liability. You could tolerate(maybe only a few in this board) those performances if he was 21 and still developing but he’s 30 and had 10+ years in the system.
He should have been dropped and I could not understand why he wasn’t!
Yes he is playing good football now, at the level I hoped for after the WCE preseason game.
Questions are can he maintain this form and what’s the price to the development of his replacements when is contract expires in 2+ seasons and he’s 4 months away from his 33rd birthday.

He was freakishly talented and am so glad he’s passing on his skills to our kids

Yeah calling people redfaced for making an accurate judgement on a player at the time is dumb, people can't see into the future.
Continually we look silly writing off a player too soon BUT the coaches also look silly persisting with a player for too long (Sturt could have been in sooner for example or Walters dropped).

If nothing else, it's a ****ing hard balancing act but real supporters give kudos where it's deserved as well as criticise, that's all that matters IMO

His last few games are exactly why they got him. He’s quality.
He has benefited from the change in the mid rotations. Firstly no Johnson against Melbourne so one less to rotate through and last 2 weeks mids rotating forward. He’s averaged 82.6% TOG.

Take my hat off to jom. He has improved very much and he belongs out their now.
This was the kid as a 16 year old won a premiership for his men's gnfl side..
He really was that good.
That’s the sort of experience we need. Might need his tactical knowledge in a few week’s time as well.
Am glad he’s starting to get on top of his injuries. Was sad when Morabito’s career ended because his body wouldn’t come to the party.

This isn't a Walters thread but who does he replace in the forward line? I'm not sure he makes it in

If they are serious, there should be conversations happening already. There isn't a spot for him forward for centre and we've basically moved from him and Emmet to Sturt and a resting mid which has gone OK I reckon...

Help Simpson get to the next level at Peel

We're super conservative with both Fyfe and Sonny so I expect to see him come back. Guessing we rate the intangible stuff highly.

Next year though...

I don't think it will be Sturt out. Lunacy to drop a bloke kicking 2.5 goals per week.

But who? I love Walters I just think our forwardline functioned the best this week compared with the rest of the season thus far
