That was a better game than Nic Natinui had his entire career in my view. Love the taps to himself that he gathered and then kicked the ball himself. He dun good

I'm not. More saying that Luke can do everything including the one thing Natinui can do which is get clearances from his own ruckwork.Honestly though why do we give a **** about that fat campaigner. We shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to the eagles at every opportunity.
This is the Luke Jackson thread, not the Bailey “norm” Banfield threadHe should have a lot of improvement in him over the next 4 seasons. Watching him the last few weeks, I get the feeling we will be watching him in a GF and he will be being discussed as one of the best players in the league.
I think the two players are polar oppositesI'm not. More saying that Luke can do everything including the one thing Natinui can do which is get clearances from his own ruckwork.
Nah Nic Fat's biggest strength was getting his own clearances out of a CBA often straight out the front kicking straight into f50.I think the two players are polar opposites
They both have the tools to do everything but nic Nat does nothing but win the tap, Jackson does everything but win the tap

The taps to himself I was referring to only. I also believe Luke has the pace of Judd out of a contest and the defensive pressure of Switta. Him and Amiss are the two most promising players we've had at Freo for a very long time.I think the two players are polar opposites

Eh, he was an elite tap ruckman, that was basically itNah Nic Fat's biggest strength was getting his own clearances out of a CBA often straight out the front kicking straight into f50.
You're overatting nic Nats overall gameI hate the Wiggles as much as the next person but even I recognise there was a bit more to Fatanui than just winning the tap. He didn't do a lot of what ruckmen are meant to do - mainly take marks a kick behind or as outlet going forward - so he can easily be reduced but what he was was an impact player. Powerful and decisive centre square clearances and huge presence as a tackler.
Jacko brings all that. And he kicks goals. And he can mark and will get even better as a mark. And he has natural game-reading ability where NN was almost completely dyslectic in that regard - hence why he could only impact play when on ball.
Jacko is/was a big fan of NN and there are definite similarities in terms of power/impact out of the centre but Jackson is a more rounded player.
(The similarity is so large that West Coast must wake up every morning and punch themselves in the face for spending all their dough on elderly hasbeens and pricing themselves out of the Jackson market. And if they don't, they should.)
... and also winning the taps against every other ruck except the monsters with such predictability that his midfield can win contested ball figures (hitout to advantage = contested possession) without having any contact with opposition players.
Nic Nat could win a hitout about 15 games out of 22 so hard it made everyone at his feet dominant too.
Luke Jackson isn't even close to Nic Nat's tap ability and that's okay. I don't want Jackson in the ruck.
If the last 4 weeks are anything to go by then in my opinion the best player comparison is Koutoufides. I might have worded my original post about Luke badly as what I was saying was that a ruckman roving his own taps is such a rare ability that I can only think of one other player who's done it. I watched a replay of the Melbounre game and it was very clear that the coaches planned on Luke spending the majority of the time that game playing as a midfielder if Darcy hadn't got injured. I'd love to know the percentage of centre clearances we have won when he's been in the centre as a midfielder compared to when he's not there. My best estimate would be around 80% (with Luke) to 40% (Without) or around double.Dumb ass Eagles mate thinks Jackson reminds him of Cox ..
Cox was good but didn't have the X factor Jackson has displayed.
Hasn't been pointing at the umpire every 5 minutes either
Nic Nat is arguably the best knock ruckman that's played the game, certainly centre bounce ruck. But he was pretty much a non-event outside the contest except for the occasional big mark. Jackson offers a lot more.... and also winning the taps against every other ruck except the monsters with such predictability that his midfield can win contested ball figures (hitout to advantage = contested possession) without having any contact with opposition players.

My take on Nic Nat was his presence. Imagine being an on baller and knowing this fast hard tackling beast was right up your arse about to drop you as you got the ball. He scared the shit out of midfields. Don’t get me wrong I hate WCE only a little bit more than Carlton but he did brig that to the gameI hate the Wiggles as much as the next person but even I recognise there was a bit more to Fatanui than just winning the tap. It's a pity the last few years of is career have been ruined by injury. Was great to watch. My take on Nic Nat was his presence.
