That really is a mouth-watering highlights package.

If people saw a highlights package like that from a potential draftee they'd be creaming themselves at the thought of getting him for two picks in the teens... and these highlights are against actual AFL players!

“In his draft year, we had him rated at number one in the draft."
given that was the rowell/anderson draft that really says something

Two firsts and a second. good luck to you, LJ. And the West media better ****ing shut up and give you a bit of time to find your feet.

on the upside, he’s emotionally invested in the club as a Freo supporter growing up, coming home with a good support network around him to hopefully protect from the ****wits in the media fishbowl that will come for him like sharks if he doesn’t perform from day dot.

I hope he’s worth it, or we’ll be hearing Trent Croad for years to come…

Good lord.

I have become a little giddy.

I really don't think you people understand. Luke Jackson brings back to us the very best part of us. Sure, he comes home essentially as some sort of giant demented labrador let out of the car after a very long drive and he's gonna run around in huge, highly destructive but highly entertaining circles f *cking all the food and eating all the furniture, but he is basically what would happen if you put Bomber Peake in TI Michael's body. He is the essence of all that is good about us. He's a Freo boy; bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and quite keen to just really turn it on.

He is an entertainment machine who makes things happen - and not in some Nebulous Naitanui "impact" kind of way. He stands on heads. He runs around elite, running-machine midfielders. He genuinely makes things happen. Good things.

I say the game plan instantly becomes "Wind him up, let him loose, get high on the pheremones."

Yes, James Brown, yes - we gave it up, now we turn him loose.

Well if that's the case... I hope he goes well.

I wasn't keen on him. Simply because of the last WA tall forward we picked up from the demons.

I am not keen on what we gave up as well.

So yeah.... Unless we have a finals run of 2012-15 again, I don't see this ending well
Our age and quality suggests a Geelong-esque finals run, provided we manage the list well. Hopefully with more silverware though.

The blue and gold mob comparing him to Hogan and Croad just makes them sound very bitter :)

You should post more often than you do, if only to get more Bomber Peake avatar action on the site. nice work.

With regard to the trade for Jackson, it was a little more than I wanted to pay but it is a long, long way from a gross over pay like the Tim Kelly, Devon Smith or Dylan Shiel deals. Like Hogan and Brodie before him, the price we paid will now be measured by the output we receive. I'm confident he'll give us the value.

Although, now I think of it - what if Sting is right about the farm? Maybe we should trade Serong to a Melb club next year for a pick in the top 5, split that in to two teens picks so we can all salivate over how good a pickup of an untired teen we might make as opposed to actually getting guys who can play and who will very likely get much better. ;)

Sydney have done extremely well for a long time now capitalising on the over-valuing of draft picks the entire industry falls in too. Perhaps we are seeing shoots of a similar mindset in Freo to the Sydney one. I'm ok with that plan. It puts more pressure on the recruiters to ID later talent but I'd back the current team in simply because one of the things they've done regularly in recent times is find gold later in the draft. Pearce, Ryan, Darcy, Freddy, Schultz, Cox, Meek, NOD, Switta, Tabs, Walker are all taken in the 30-60 pick range or even rookies for some with Noddy just inside that range at 27. Not a bad track record.

Anyone who is even slightly worried about the trade, read this. Brilliantly explains why it's actually pretty low-risk and how we'll be able to utilise LJ.

From Melbourne fan

"Great deal for Freo. Late first rounders just aren't that valuable. Hence the need to tip in more, and they didn't even have to fully pay more. Come draft night some team will over a future 3rd for 44 if it's not used anyway. Watch recruiters change their mind on the depth of a draft once they get a player in front of them.

Ok deal for Melbourne. The big problem is we can't find anyway at this stage to take 13 and a future 2nd for a top 10 pick. Most years someone would. Port have pick 8 tied up with North/WC. Pick 7 is off to Geelong.

Melbourne need to move now to bring in a really high level talent given our window but we might have to wait a year which is unfortunate.

It might take 3-5 years but eventually Jackson should become a Blicavs level midfielder who can ruck, play wing, play CHB, tag the oppositions best players and run forward on them too. That's an incredible weapon. He only needs to be a B grade player in terms of skills and production to be worth an A+ wage because of how much better that makes your team.

Opposition have 2 gun key forwards or are super dangerous on quick counter attacks
- Darcy or Jackson sit in hole

Opposition have a gun big bodied mid:
- Jackson tags him

Opposition have gun half back interceptors:
- Jackson pushes forward and creates a marking contest away from the interceptors"

Do we have a contract length reported anywhere?

I have heard 6 but not from someone I am fully confident is in the know.

Came back to say that I still feel the same about this deal. Excited to see what he can do. Those highlights are ridiculous. Pumped to support him for a decade or so.

It will be great to see our second ruck dominate. The team will fall off less. All positive.
