Need to make bold decisions to win a Premiership.

I think Geelong and Brisbane come out of this trade/draft period in better shape, so we need to as well.

29

Not only those guys above us (Collingwood too), but some below us as well. Port in particular have improved (on paper) and Richmond too. Standing still is going backwards as they say.

That's why I'd be going to the Bulldogs and Hawks and saying "We're trading 1 only of Meek & Lobb. Lobb deal needs a pick between 14 & 19 or it won't happen. A Meek deal needs a pick between 25 & 35 or he stays. First one back gets the player they want, last one back gets a big bag of fresh air. We're happy to keep both. Good luck."

I'd also call Young and say he should ready himself to eat a huge bag of Darlings.

Some on the Melbourne board think they got screwed on the trade. Some on this board think we got screwed on the trade.

I'd say the truth lies somewhere in between. Personally I think we paid slightly overs.

It doesn't matter now. He's here so lets get behind him 100%!!

Leaving aside the ability and potential, has Freo ever recruited a player so keen to play for the club.

I've kept my council on this during trade period because I just didn't believe we had the currency to make a trade work - so here are my five cents (and as you can tell I'm super super excited):

- On the trade: I honestly feel it's the best possible outcome we could have hoped for. The easiest comparison is what would we ask for Serong? 2019 draft, pick 8, rising star winner vs 2019 draft, pick 3, premiership winning rising star. If we'd been offered two first round picks between 10-18 (I believe we will be top 8 again next year) and some meaningless later round swaps in the 30s and 40s - we'd say 'f**k right off'. Only his performance will confirm whether it was a good trade - but on the day of the trade I think we've paid unders. I was desperately worried we'd have to totally destroy our draft hand for the next two years - and with North's Round 2 plus whatever we can get for Meek and Lobb then we will still have something in our hand. I'd also add that any other year this trade wouldn't make sense.

- On the player: Maybe I'm mad, but ever since the 2021 grand final I've just thought "he's Fyfe's long term replacement" - a bullocking contested mid, charging out of stoppages who can take a mark and has an OK kick. It makes no sense for us to throw that sort of trade capital at a ruck, especially given we have the best young ruck on our list already. I genuinely would hate to see his talents wasted by rucking most of the time.

Get excited - our window has officially opened wide - and with the age profile of our list it's still going to be open in 7-8 years time.

Trade from Melbourne for a ******* lot that is to be confirmed shortly.

Welcome Dogga, cant wait for you to make all of us nervy about the trade cost look completely stupid over the next 10+ years

If it helps I think you should consider how in reality the picks 44 and 67 will be significantly higher when actually taken due to the bid matching process particularly with a match required at pick 1 for Ashcroft likely. Pick 44 should end up in the top 40 pretty easily and with more than a few other bids likely Pick 67 could be more like 56 when taken. Meanwhile the Future 2nd will likely be taken without moving up as clubs trade picks for multiple later picks to match bids.

In reality we traded 2 firsts and change for Jackson with the future 2nd not far off in real value from picks taken in this years draft at the start of the 3rd and 4th round.

If he changes numbers it should be No 5 so swapping with Shultz. That way we'll have Jackson Number 5 in our team and then if we lose we can Blame it on the Boogey. Imagine the marketing opportunities.

I like it, And when they slide down the ladder, Melbourne can post their favourite Jackson 5 clip too

Happy.

Now no more trading futures please.

Wait, we have future picks left?? Like a future ninth rounder in 2029? [sarcasm]

Lucky he can footy 😂

Help required from the youngun social meejia translators on this site please.

its not against the rules to meet with players you intend to recruit...

Fagan was in Neale's ear constantly his last season at freo lol.

Trade radio mentioned 7 years/900k.

900k is that a little much??
900 k over 7? in 2029 he'll be able to buy two loaves of bread, a couple of cases of EmuBitter and a 10 pack of Indomie Ramen.

Seriously, no, in the world of the increased salary cap after the big TV rights deal, 900k per for a bloke who just turned 21 is not of itself awful.
Nowhere near the problem of a Cogs or a Grundy contract.

Does depend a bit on how front or back end loaded it is, but really 7 is actually quite manageable.

Fagan was in lots of players (and other peoples) ears for many years, allegedly, apparently, allegedly...
