pretty obvious that they're trying to create a succession plan for Scarlett, Harley and Milburn with Gillies, Drum and maybe Smith. Don't know where that leaves Laidler, unless they're going to continue to develop him. I'd think that we still need another genuine tall, not sure if McKenna will be that player.

Laidler will be fine as he's more of a HBF/versatile player, and has massive potential. McKenna is more of a worry and should be worried about whether he'll stay on the list.

Hmm i don't know... The fact that Drum has more experience may get him a spot before Gillies. Although neither will get a permanent spot next year unless we have a season ending injury.

Drum, 4 years for 22 games at Freo
Gillies 1 year for 6 games at Geelong

No offense to Drum but 4 years in the WAFL I don't think equates to one year with Scarlett.

Well I think obviously Gillies will get opportunities next year, but Drum's the insurance and would slot in if there was a long term injury to someone like Taylor (I hope not ). Gillies will end up playing Harley's role anyway so it's not like they're really competing for the same spot long term. But I do agree that neither will have a secure spot next year unless one of Scarlet, Milburn, Mackie, Taylor, Enright, Kelly or Hunt is injured.

How long was Harry Taylor in the WAFL again?

Well I would say 4 years :D

Don't get me wrong I think we can do something with Drum but my original intention was to say that I prefer Gillies until we beat the Fremantle out of our new fella.

let's remember marcus drum has a geelong gene in him so hopefully that will over ride the freoness

this could finally solve the age-old question - genetics vs environment

Oh I see what is happening, this will result in the the AFL make new rules preventing nephews from being traded to their uncle's club.

Drum said he didn't deserve to be dropped to the WAFL and found it very hard to get motivated to play there.

Sounds like the type who wants the recognition with none of the effort.

Gonna have to Steve Johnsify him.
That's exactly it, he wanted to be gifted a spot but Harvey refused to just let him stroll into the 22 without putting in in the WAFL. I guess as you would put it, Harvey is trying to de-Fremantle Fremantle. A good comparison would be Duffield who was dropped a week later for the exact same thing, Duffield tore it up in the WAFL and finally cemented his spot in Freo's 22. Drum sulked until we had to play him the last 4 games to get his value up.

He's definately got the tools but you've gotta wonder what goes through his head when he wouldn't even put in for the team he supported as a kid.

Personally I'm hoping tomorrow we still hold out for pick 40 or 42, I don't think Harvs and Bondy knew about your hand in the Burgoyne trade while our trade was going through.

Rest assured that if we get Smith along with Drum and turn them into guns, there will be crying from all and sundry about more father son rule rorting from us, as JS was a father son for North, and Drummy is a father nephew obviously. Revisionist history will suggest that both were in fact picked up as f/s selections in the 8th round of the draft.

Here is an article on Him.

I do think you need to put some meat on him. His legs look a bit on the skinny side for a defender.

He has been a little injury prone at the wrong times, just enough to lose his spot to older senior exp. players(not nec. better). Only 22 so pretty good for pick 49...

Thanks for posting that article

After reading what he said he doesn't sound too big headed. I think he was just discussing the problem of training with an AFL side and then just rocking up to play in the WAFL after a late week team meeting.

It would be like you're not really in either team, and I think that would really suck

The good thing about the Cats is they have their own VFL club, so that makes it a tight outfit. Even if you're not playing seniors you're still in touch with everyone and there wouldn't be such a massive disconnect between playing VFL and AFL

Well i hope he realizes that if he doesn't put out 110% in the VFL he will never get a single senior game with Geelong. IF we need someone and we have Gillies still playing at his best in the VFL and Drum who is playing lazy then Gillies will get the call up in front of Drum every single time.

However i am sure he is quite well aware of this and i don't think he would dare slacking off at all.

Drum certainly won't be under any illusion that he can slot straight into the Geelong seniors

Yeah that should fix whatever attitude problems he is supposed to have. No way could anyone come to the current Geelong side half hearted and expect a look in.

Fremantle aren't much chop but they do have reasonable talls, it is their midfield that is completely rancid. Pavlich is a gun obviously and Tarrant, McPharlin and Michael Johnson are all handy talls.
