Re: Marcus Drum. Great Pick-Up

"Already I feel a sense of complete determination, like that passion is back, and I am so excited I just can't wait to get out there and train," he said. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-mark-at-geelong/story-e6frf9jf-1225785337751

This article in the Addy also shows his love of being at his new home

I think he will thrive if he works hard, and the competition for spots in defence can only prove good for the team :thumbsu:

Drum's out training for us:

Impressed that he seems to keen to develop in defence and become a team player. Early days yes, but the signs are good.

Oh, and as a side point...are there any more informed supporters than me who know who the other kid in the photo is? I'd swear it's Wojo's twin or kid, but surely his progeny aren't old enough to be drafted yet :D

rumour over here is that drum is going to miss half of next season with injury, is there any truth to that? anybody heard anything? sources over here can be quite unreliable

No mention of injury in an article I have read. It only shows him on the track ready to rip it up. I love that he had a taste of being on the other side of the KP crowd , and will be so glad they will now be barracking for him.

Surely he must be close to the luckiest player in the AFL. Walks into a club that has played in the last 3 GF's, 5 of the last 6 finals series , a club that just happens to have a spot for a player his size in defense and will be supported in that defense by 3 or 4 All Australians.

It will be interesting to see how he slots in next year.

On paper you say that Hunt comes in for Harley. However Drum is a more like for like replacement, and maybe Wojcinski gets chopped for Hunt and Drum takes over Harley's third man up role in our best team. Drum certainly has the attributes to fill the position, good reader of the play, good mark, solid skills and our defence and team as a whole has never been based around needing pace and agility, which seem to be the major knocks on him.

Drum could come in and play every game or spend the entire season in the twos. The pre season will be massive for him.

I agree with all that you say.

Hunt has pole position so long as he can regain form after the layoff. But there'll be a chance there for Drum if he plays well enough in the NAB and VFL to earn it, as he should. Anyway, Marcus did another interview this week, which has probably understandably got lost in the aftermath of the Stokes story breaking.

I like his maturity and the way he speaks about our players, and also just that it sounds like he's got the right attitude to how hard he needs to work.

If I have one criticism though Marcus, please stop saying their and they. I know it's probably subconscious, but you're back home, and a Cats player now-it's we :)

Yep you'd think Hunt would be first choice. But there's also Gillies who looked to have terrific composure in his few games last year. Plus Wocjinski and Laidler, and now Drum if he's up to it.

I love competition for spots.

I guess he doesn't really see himself as part of the team yet. Once he's played a game that will change.

You're probably right (can't believe I hadn't thought of that). Just gives me a little chuckle everytime I hear him speak that way.

From all reports training well though.
