Oh well, it's Knobel's job to prove the club wrong now.

Want us to regret letting you go? Show us.

I do hope he does well, keen for Riddle though too.

seems to be more angst over losing Max than when we lost Meek. Bizarre. Max may never play an AFL game whereas looking back in 10, it may have been smarter keeping Meek and trading an injury-affected Darcy.

Yeah and how many games of AFL had Meek played after two years?

Hindsight hero pattern around here. Darcy was a b&f winner, Meek was an ok depth ruckman.

I'm still not buying into the Meek hype, nothing against him, but it'll fade, he's nothing special, just had a good purple patch

I really rated Meek, think he will end up with a really solid career.

better start lining up now if you want fergburger later

Surprisingly the wait wasn’t long, just enough time for a beer next door. They pump them out quick. Worth it!

What's this I'm hearing about the Eagles looking at Max and he and his management telling them go jump?

Anybody else hear about this?
Not sure bout the rumour , wouldn’t surprise me as they need a ruck (apparently barnett looking like a dud,Jameson is a dud and Williams is just battler).
That said more than happy to run with it either way , as it’s quite the feel good story after yesterday.
Now off to all my social media counts to get the ball rolling!!

I feel sorry for Max if this is out of the blue for him - but has he shown enough to warrant this level of melt?
I ve never seen him play, but his stats looks reasonable for a 207cm 20 yr developing ruckman. Played a wafl game where he had 50 hit outs, 16 disposals and a goal.
Think averaged 40 hitouts in his 3 wafl games.

I don't understand why we needed to delist him in the first place.

That’s exactly it and the most frustrating part.
There must be some overarching club rule that states we max out the rookie list every year to save whatever dollars we can. There was no other need or rule that required us to delist him.

It's to make space on the main list for picks in the national Draft, as opposed to the rookie Draft. Therefore having us, hypothetically, fill up the list with a higher level of talent than we'd get from the rookie Draft.

Really feel Walls wasn’t fussed. I just had a thought. Worner who was upgraded counts as one of our three ND selections. So effectively we could have kept Knobel on primary list had our two selections and then had Carr added to rookie list as F/S.

If Walls really wanted to it wouldn’t have been too difficult to keep Knobel on the list. If GCS didn’t jump ahead of us then we would have likely signed him up for 1 year only and it seems like he would have been against the odds to get an extension beyond 2025. Walls being interviewed the night before rookie draft said “If” Knobel is available….

The knock on Knobel was his lack of fitness, he could get to the ruck contests but offered very little outside of that, the guy we have replaced him with is very mobile and a great contested mark, so maybe they did just want more versatility from a 3/4 string ruck, someone who could cover Jackson’s role more than Darcy’s.

Edit: would have been easier to just de-list Knobel and draft Riddle if we really wanted to replace Max though, and this way was much harder for him to comprehend, at training with your mates, go into lunch and watch the draft and discover you’re packing your life up and heading to GC. Anyone know if he had found himself a wa girlfriend while he was here?

We had space on the main list but always seem to run with 36 main / 6 rookie. We could’ve just run with 37/5 like a lot of teams do. We could’ve still made 4x picks in the ND and kept Knobel on the main list, we had picks 14, 30, 67, 81 & 89 pre-draft.

The reason we run 36/6 is to remove ~$85k (from memory) per player from the salary cap. If we have to do this every year it would suggest we are very tight on salary cap or manage the cap in a way where we must have 6 players on the rookie list and basically spend 100% of cap each year.

Who knows but it’s a bit strange. I’m not devastated we lost Knobel but would’ve preferred to keep him over drafting and developing another ruckman. He is a good size for a modern ruck.

From my perspective losing him in some shape or fashion seemed inevitable from the point where they drafted Reidy as a more experienced, older ruckman in the same year - it was meaning he was always going to be stuck behind him.

100% correct, big time stuff up by Walls

Seems to a bit "laid back " for me
