Have you hung out with footballers before? One bloke saying to another that he'll be "starting on the pine" is hardly a crushing blow to someone's self-esteem...
Except when you are struggling for form and you do start on the pine or in the 2s.

But as long as you think you had the team all pulling together I suppose (given we really don't care) we should take your word for it.

Who is operating the camera? Don't think Griffen says the line if it's him
....it's someone to Liam's left.
Yeh, its definately not Griff - its a different voice - Griff asks where he'll be playing, and Jonesy clearly looks to his left when the guy says "on the pine".

Liams face doesnt drop as such, but if thats the environment he was subject to, it wouldnt be surprising if he was the butt of jokes more often than not - and that combined with a hard taskmaster of a coach, may have really damaged his confidence.

We know he can play from his form at VFl level, and whilst I wasnt sold on him being a great pickup - he's certainly good value for a 3rd rounder. Lets hope Mick helps him take his game to the next level.

There where serious problems at the doggies last year. We are a bit more informed here in Melbourne.
That trevell diary is not what I'm basing my opinion on.

All ears then, champ. That, and the accompanying innuendo and speculation is all you've brought to the table so far to maintain that Jones was bullied. Fill me in with your secret local Melbournian wisdom.

The doggies had a very toxic culture last year.
When there is a environment like this certain personalities tend to dominate.

Jones did not leave the doggies because Carlton offered him more money. The doggies are only paying 92% of the salary cap this year they could have blow us out of the water finically.

He wanted more money than we offered him, certainly. Doubt we'd have looked to blow anyone out of the water in terms of money for a player of Jones' quality

You must be the quick brown fox that jumped over the stupid dogs......

I know it's a joke but I can't look at that without thinking ... there's no Z .... how am I going to do my cursive Zs now? I have blackboard cursive burned into my brain from somewhere in the 70s.

The facts ( right now) are that Jones (and Tutt) were both serial underperformers at the dishlickers. Malthouse has basically replaced Waite and Garlett with these two as far as roles go. Will be a huge coup if one or both of these can become regular starting 22 players - I'm hopeful about Jones in particular - but not overly confident about big athletic blokes who have had plenty of time and support previously - but were too inconsistent to be starting players at lowly ranked Clubs.

For sure there is a lot of 'romance' potential in Jones exploding into a genuine A grade forward - would be awesome.

Of course anything can yet come about...............the good or the bad.

The one thing you can't take away from Jones is the effort he's put in to date. If that changes though, we'll be talking about it also.

I play golf off 4 - not bad for a middle aged bloke at The National. On the practise fairways my shot shaping and ball striking is as good as blokes playing off scratch or better. Off the back markers in real match conditions - the 'real' players will beat me every time.

Every sport has practise/training stars - who can't really deliver consistently ( if at all) when it matters. Thats why I don't pay much attention to pre-season or training reports - apart from health and fitness. If Jones can play his role a leading athletic marking goal kicker - it will be a huge win for a pick 46 - i'm hopeful but not confident yet.

We as supporters need to be careful not to pump up players who have been just average in the past because its sets us up for dissapointment. Jesse White was tearing up the track at Collingwood last pre-season from memory.

Who was giving Jones support at the Dogs. Best form was when Hall was in the team taking the focus off him.

It is harder to be a forward in a bottom side than it is in a top one.

How many years was Jones on the dishlickers books?

According to the bible he had a pretty good year in 2013 also http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/L/Liam_Jones.html but big barry wasnt there then.
Jones stats are pretty constant across his whole career (though he took his career high ave marks in 2011). 2013 was no better than 2014 he just played more games. The issue was that in 2011 was a second year player and hasn't improved from there as one would have expected. My explaination for this lack of statistical improvement his he is getting more attention is a weaker side.
