Leppitsch was pleased that West was still available at Pick 50.

“A lot of the key forwards were in that (pick) 30’s bracket before us and we were just hoping that he’d hang on until our pick,” said Leppitsch.

“We were considering taking him with our first pick, but we felt the Clubs behind us at that first pick weren’t going to take another key forward, so we delayed him another pick down the rung and thankfully he was there, so great news.”

So we rated him ahead of Joel Cochran but took a Punt that Dogs and Eagles would not pick him and we where right

Bit of a risk in the era of live trading. If anyone wanted him then they could have traded up like the Suns did. Clearly there were a multiple players we were happy with and not all our eggs were in the West basket at that point of the night.

Of Course we would had another Tall we might of taken but Luckly did not need to

At last month’s national draft combine, the Henley Sharks product impressed in the 20m sprint, finishing sixth in 2.957sec, and was ninth in the standing vertical jump, hitting 70cm.

Years spent playing volleyball for his school and basketball for Woodville have helped his leap.

Charlie considers his contested marking, power and competitiveness among his strengths.

What are his weaknesses? Right now he sounds like Wayne Carey with better athleticism.
According to his rookie me profile, endurance and field kicking things he can work on.

STRENGTHS:

  • Aggression
  • Contested marking
  • Follow-up work
  • Speed
  • Strength
  • Vertical leap

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Endurance
  • Field kicking

No he didn’t because he never picks anyone above 195 cm as usual. Checkers size talls 😔
That's where they see the value
They think height is a bit overvalued in kpos players ie the king's, mason cox etc aren't half as good as checkers who knows how to protect the ball drop
It's a calculated strategy to maximise value I'd say

Some very encouraging strengths there…. Good to see

Just checking in this morning to make sure I didn’t dream it - that we drafted a tall forward who won’t be blown over in a stiff breeze and has some mongrel about him.

Mon Dieu - what’s not to like about that?

He won't be playing seniors for 3 years as his body is just not there yet even though he has nice frame already. AFL big men are all thick and heavier than him. Also his tank is work in progress and the game would be too fast for him... not everyone can be phenom like Naicos.

Other picks as well like Hayes and Cochran won't be playing seniors nor sniff it for a few years.

But just to temper expectations... we all are hoping Pies got a diamond in a rough scenario here. There are good reason why these players slipped this late. Hopefully all 3 are smart and hard workers because their deficiencies can be sorted out if they put in the work and are smart enough to understand other ways they can contribute.

I’m ready for another ride on the Travis Cloke roller coaster
