Player Watch Welcome to Collingwood Tim Membrey

I have a sneaky suspicion that Membrey will effectively replace Checkers. They'll try Checkers, McStay, Membrey and Cox and realise it's top heavy and Checkers will be the one to make way.
Is that Sam Mitchell in your avatar photo?

This one has brought up a few personal emotions and reflections.

I went to school with Tim in Traralgon. In the school yard he was known as "Membrey". I guess I was one of those kids at the bottom of the pack and Tim was definitely upper echelon ("popular" as we'd refer to anyone in that category). Tim was horrible to me to say the least. He wasn't easy on teachers either. I despised him. A true school yard alpha male bully. I left Traralgon at some point, and quickly forgot about Tim.

Almost 20 years later, I feel like life has come a full circle. The guy I absolutely hated growing up & one of the worst characters from my school life, has come to my beloved Collingwood. It's a funny feeling. Despite everything, I feel so happy & excited. I've learnt a few things. Life is too short to hold grudges & resentment. People are not necessarily defined by their past. How much I love my wonderful club because this club makes me love anyone who reprsents the black & white.

Go well Tim. I'll be cheering on as loud as ever.

you're better than me. I wouldn't piss on some kids from school if they were on fire.

To those saying 50+ goals, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here ok? Coming to the pies isn’t going to make him a 10-20 goal per year better forward than he has been previously.

30+ goals while easing the pressure on McStay and Checkers would be a sensational result, we don’t have to set unachievable expectations and then get disappointed that the 30 year old we recruited for free hasn’t become one of the premier forwards of the comp…
If we could get 30+ each from the three of them, that would be great.

With all due respect he didn’t have Daicos x 2, Pendlebury, Crisp and now Houston ramming it down his throat at the Saints
Also had to contend with a Ross the Toss "game plan".

Lol wot? This must be a joke.

Mihocek is like a 5 time leading goal kicker at the club.

Cox won’t play or if he does, it’s as a sub.

Cox is the odd man out there.

People (not suggesting this is what you’re doing) have been writing off Coxy his entire career. I think we’ll continue with the 2 ruck combo and Cameron, Cox, McStay, Checkers, and Membrey in the same side will work fine. Membrey, Checkers and McStay are all mobile and will get up the ground, Cox can cover the I/C rotations for all of them. We played Lipinski forward much of last season. More likely Lipinski gets moved up the ground.

Let’s hope he pays you back, sounds like he owes you a premiership.

From the Saints board :

"Membrey is one that I'm actually sad about losing. He was a rock in the forward line for us when we had no-one there. One of the rare reliable kicks for goal in a side that has had atrocious accuracy for several years. I would have been fine giving him two more years, personally. He'd get his 30 or so goals, he'd give it his all defensively, very hard worker.

I hope he does well as the Pies (as much as it pains me to wish something well on the Pies)."

Our forward line will be a real matchup nightmare for other sides.

McStay and Mihocek will get the key backs. Membrey will get the ‘third tall’ back which will be a nice matchup for him, probably used to getting the 2nd best defender.

Elliott who can play tall will be able get a player unlikely to go with him in the air, because the 3rd defender is on Membrey.

The flow on effect is all across the fwd line.

Were far better off with 3-4 guys all kicking around 30-40 goals than the Carlton model of winning the Coleman every year and **** all else

A heap of flag teams have had a kpf in the Coleman race.

But agree you need a spread of goal kickers including mids who kick them.

Just a fwiw all on target or in contentionfor Coleman and flagged or runners up.

2023 - Joe Daniher 61.37 Runner up (C.Cameron also kicked 59.27)
2022 Jez Cameron 65g 37p Geelong Premier. (Hawkins 64 goals).
2019 -Tom Lynch 63g 31p Richmond Premier.
2018 - J.Kennedy 43.20 from 14 games, Premier.
2017 - J.Reiwoldt 54.37 Richmond Premier.
2016 - L.Franklin 81.54 Runners up. (Bulldogs won GF with spread like us in 23).
2015 - J.Kennedy 80g 55p WC runners up. J.Gunstan 57.35 Hawks Premier.
2014 - L.Franklin 79.51 Runners up Swans.
J.Roughead 75.43 Hawks Premier.
2013 - J.Roughead 72.34 Hawks Premier.
T.Cloke 68.51 Collingwood (Elim final added for pies flavour).

Bit of a myth that has grown legs here is teams don't have a dominant tall fwd or fwd in flag teams. It's like one of those things that if enough people say it, it must be true.

Dogs 2016 and our 2023 team buck the trend more then set the rule.

It was the perfect opening - from "surreal" to "to be honest" to "obviously" A seemless transition through the key elements of the presser game plan.

I wanna know which foot he’s intending to put forward, and how many stones he’s intending to leave unturned.

I had a similar experience with Mark Richardson (still cheered him on at the Pies - I figure people do grow up .....hopefully) Others who I mixed with at school/athletics (eg the Roccas - who I spent a lot of time with - and Jarrod Molloy) were good guys all the way.
