Started some exercise on the weekend, still sore. Had some panic attacks on Monday. Had too much to drink last night over the stupid ACL.

I thought, oh crap you did your ACL, but you mean the soccer, huh? If you're still sore, stretch, water, and rest. Being bad-ass isn't an overnight thing, but you are on the path to bad-ass-edness.

no change, still walking. pay day Friday, wanting to buy an exercise bike

Yup, you chuck that exercise in front of the TV, you won't even notice you're exercising!

Ran the obstacle course on the weekend. 4km & 8.5km over a night/day. It hurt.

So I needed 2 bags of crisps for the drive home.

Once my leg gets better - I got it caught on a chain as I fell 8 feet off a rope ladder - I'll get the exercise bike set up. TV in back room now has chromecast so I can netflix and cycle.

Great work on the obstacle course... next time, 1 bag of crisps. Yup, bike in front of TV... BAM!

Away at the moment, staying in a friends house and stayed in a room with an exercise bike, feeling positive. Thanks for thinking of me deaneus

I wonder if you feel positive just because there was a bike in the room, or you actually did some work on it... i'll go placebo effect for you.

And you're welcome, we're all in this together...

Reporting in - now down from 89.5 to 89.1 over the last week. Regular visit to the doctor on Monday (to update my medicine scripts - the downside of a heart attack) and he was pretty pleased with my overall condition - weight loss and general appearance.

Not sure whether I had mentioned previously but in just over a week I'll will be doing a triathlon at West Lakes (the middle range one) of 300m swim, 16.8km bike ride then a 3km run. Today as a bit of a practice I did a 21km bike ride then transitioned to the run and did a 2.5km jog - did it in just under an hour. Will see how my legs are tomorrow.

Why did I decide to do a triathlon? Well a mate who did the Melbourne ironman last March (3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42km run) said jokingly at one of these triathlons he was competing in last February, that he'd reckon I could do one of these triathlons and is what I should be striving for. I remember saying at the time to him, yeh right!

Three weeks later I had the heart attack and since that day, I felt a need to show myself that not only can I survive that event but grow stronger and challenge myself. So at the ripe old age of 54, I'm doing something I would have thought unimaginable 12 months ago. There is a distinct possibility I'll be emotional when I cross the finish line.

Guys, what if I tried all the ways of losing weight for years? Gym, work out, diet, running, exercise, personal trainer? 5 years and no visible results.. I have to admit that I'm sedentary, I work 9 hours per day on the computer, but stil.. I tried my best and nothing. I went to a doctor last days and he gave me a long term weight loss plan and if it doesn't work than I have some surgery possibilities due to new technology, safe and easy. Excepting the fact that the dieting plan will fail, what do you think about any weight loss surgery? I'm thinking to have it abroad, through Placidway as the prices are a bit lower.. but I need some advice.. what would you do?

I'd realise that signing up to a football forum and trying to drum up business for Placidway is a futile exercise and give up I suppose.

Well unless you have a genetic condition, I'm thinking if you have tried all of those to no avail then you weren't trying hard enough.

Weight loss surgery should only be considered when everything else has failed and only when you have given 100% to all the other options.

It may seem silly to be concerned with weight, but maintaining optimum weight and fitness is an employment condition - I have an issue whereby I put on weight very easily and very quickly.

So basically if I don't obsess over it, I will be over weight and unemployed in a blink

Unemployed or transferred to a fat desk to write pamphlets?

One tip I'd give people in regards to diet. Learn to use spices and herbs and they'll become your best mate in the kitchen. Use these to flavour your food in lieu of making sauces, or using pre-made sauces from the supermarket, which are often full of fat, sugar, and salt. Spices and herbs add both flavour, and have nutritional benefits (just go easy on the salt).

Mayonnaise is still ok though?

I'm ticking along much the same. 30 mins on the bike 3 times a week. Have also started training for my next karate grading. Still losing weight slowly. I'd love to do the bike more often but between work and 2 kids its hard to find much more time. In any case I'm aiming for gradual weight loss with a lifestyle that is hopefully sustainable long term so that I can get where I want to be and stay that way.

That's the only way to do it, otherwise you end up back with your old lifestyle that got you there in the first place. Go for it!

Well completed the triathlon today. Bastards added a further 2.7km to cycle race so it was 19.5km in lieu of 16.8kms however that didn't matter it was getting the legs pumping on the run.

Hamstrings were very tight at completion but the feeling of crossing that finish line.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Set yourself a realistic goal and objective (don't be ridiculous but challenge yourself) and strive to achieve it. We all have it in us.

From where I was 11 months ago, lying on an operating table, getting a couple of stents put in and having lost kgs since by modifying my diet and exercising, it has been worthwhile but the journey never ends.

I'm so unfit it's not even funny. I've always been that way; even when I was 25kg lighter. I'm way too sedentary for my own good so this is going to take a slow and gradual change to have any chance at all of success; rather than trying to go in all guns blazing and end up falling flat on my fat arse. I think I'll start with just trying to ride my exercise bike 3 times a week, for 15 minutes each time, and build up from there. It's slightly complicated by the side effect of my migraine preventative giving me a greatly increased appetite; but I just have to be more mindful of what I eat and when, and try to find some other strategies to cope when I feel like I need something to eat, even when I just ate.

Start Weight - 80kg.
Height - 160cm (with my shoes on).
Current Weight - 79.1kg.
Ultimate Goal Weight - 55kg.
