Yeah was great but all I can think of in my funk at the moment is how much Hawthorn and Carlton are going to be in his ear over the next two years. You just know it will happen
...how lovely they never got the chance. 😂😂

Sorry for the necro-quote... It:s funny to go back and read the posts back when we first drafted him... Even then, we wanted him play in the midfield and become the next Mundy... and here it is actually happening. 🥰🥰

**** yes! Get them all signed long-term on favourable coin and I reckon poshman's 'Dockade of Dominance' is on its way to fruition.

My confidence is increasing weekly! The optimism thread should be overflowing this season!!

I posted about Young a few days back. Going into his second year in the midfield he will improve again.

LFG!!!

And by the end of his first year in the midfield he was the best player in the competition.

Wait till he gets to know the joint.
100%. I wonder who else was selected to the AA squad after their first year in the midfield? There must be someone to compare him to. Let's get the BF research team on this! lol.

Too bad he will never win a Brownlow. At least it will be hard with Brayshaw and Serong in the team. And the likes of Bolton, Jackson, Treacy hopefully getting a few votes as well...
The brownlow is an inherently flawed award. It rarely goes to the best player. It goes to the best midfielder that's on a team with little competition from his fellow teammate for votes.

2024 was the 100 anniversary of the brownlow. It has been awarded 111 times. How many players have won both a brownlow and premiership? SIX.

It's very hard to win a brownlow when you're on a high quality team stacked with talent. Not to take anything away from the players who won one, but I think the award is totally overhyped.

When we win our third consecutive flag with no brownlow winners...I'll be happy to cheer for Cripps to win his fifth brownlow without a flag. ;)

Did they win them in the premiership years though? There would be a few premiership players that won brownlows but not in a premiership year. Cotchin comes to mind, Sam Mitchell did he win it before a premiership?
Cotchin and Mitchell never won a browlow. Watson, with no benefit from the drugs his dodgy club gave him, won it ,but had to hand it back ..

Have a few more:

Syd Coventry 1927
Albert Collier 1929
Harry Collier 1930
Ian Stewart 1966
Robert DiPierdomenico 1986
Gavin Wanganeen 1993
Jason Akermanis 2001
Simon Black 2002
Gary Ablett Jr. 2009
Dustin Martin 2017

But overall my original point was that it most likely is a good thing for the team when he is unlikely to win.

Back to Young... It is great to be in a position with 3 top liners, all of which we could make an argument for being the best of the three.
Out of the three I feel like Young has the highest ceiling. He could be the best player in the comp within two years. That's no disrespect to AB and Sebba. They are all elite.

That is some elite drafting, trading and development!
Respect to the TEAM!
All that with a dead man walking coach!
How so?

Yeah, I think a huge part of Young's game that is overlooked is his contested game, he was becoming a brute on the inside toward the end of last year, which I'd only expect to improve over the next few years. He also has a surprisingly good burst of speed (see his run and goal / run and lace out i50s out of the middle) and a deadly left boot. He's borderline untaggable tbh.

Add his excellent marking, making him a genuine forward threat and there's an argument he's our most dangerous mid/fwd. Sebba has massively improved in this area, and Brayshaw just needs to kick straight to provide another 0.5 goals a game, so there's potential for the three to provide 20+ each a season. I also think Matty Johnson could make a leap and be another, less damaging but stronger version of Young (quick, good disposal, great tackle, inside/outside, was a whisker off with his goal kicking last year). That's an incredible midfield, and we've just added Bolton. I don't know about anyone else, but my lid is looser than Debbie in Dallas.

All of which must make those Lathlain Trolls even more very grumpy.
Poor Trolls.
Newton's Law of Football...opposite and equal something or other?

To be fair, they've got their own mid/forward that could become the best player in the game.

For now.

My favourite draftings after watching them play their first couple of games are Young, Trace & Big Darcy.

They all had a good balance of skill, aggression & intent.
Youngy more in skill & intent.
JT, aggression & intent.
Darcy with aggression which has been trained out of him.

They have all bought in.
Signed up long term.
All solid Docker citizens. .
