I’m still trying to process the fact that we actually have a father-son draftee. This isn’t meant to happen for us.

Yet another example that Andrew Dillon & Laura Kane are asleep at the wheel.

He needs a couple of preseasons building his body, he looks light for his height but has the skills.

Walls said Matthew didn't really fill out until he was 21/22 so we could see the same from Jaren.

I'm OK with the pick even if it seems a strange one based on his WAFL output. He can run, mark and kick. And surely has some mongrel like others have said.

His attributes seem a bit like Davidson, Polkinghorne and Bowman.

Whether he plays medium forward or wing, it fills a list need. I'm going to stick with developing him as a forward at first, as we badly needed backup for Sturt.

Jaren Carr’s dream has come true as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of his father Matthew and uncle Josh by playing for Fremantle.

The Dockers drafted Carr with pick No.63 in this year’s draft, having nominated him as a father-son but not needing to match any bids on the athletic forward.

Carr, 20, lands at the Dockers after an impressive year for South Fremantle where he averaged 12 touches from nine league games including 17 disposals on debut.

The son of 134-game Docker Matthew, Jaren had interest in the mid-season rookie draft from Brisbane but backed himself to get picked up this month and it paid off when they recruited him late on Thursday night.

“It’s amazing. It’s an unreal opportunity and I cannot wait to get started,” he said.

“It has always been a dream and obviously to play for the team I grew up going for, it’s a dream come true.

“I’m familiar with a few of the boys, but it will be different. It’s only the beginning now. I’ve got to start putting the work in, it’s a fresh start.”

Carr has worked closely with personal trainer Josh Kovacs to get stronger to put him in a position to make it to the AFL after missing out in his draft year.

“I needed to get stronger in my legs to get faster and more powerful, so he’s helped me with my leg strength and core so I am a more powerful runner,” he said.

“I got moved into the forward line and really worked hard on my craft.

“I got quite a bit of confidence when you’re backed in by good coaches like Todd (Curley) and Nick Suban. The supporting teammates gives you a lot of confidence to play better.”

The 191cm forward said the move to back himself for the national draft after not nominating for the mid-season draft was worth the risk.

“It worked out in the end, it was a decision I decided to make to back myself for this one,” Carr said.

It's the new pop philosophy question for the young and young at heart
The classic 'If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, did it make a sound?' is no longer.
Now replacced by "If a father-son is drafted and no one bid on him, is he really a father-son?'

Good luck to Jaren, he seems to be a fair way off from what I have seen in a couple of games at Souths but then again he could really offer a point of difference if he comes good, so worth a shot

Happy with this pick, we needed another medium forward and he’ll be well known to Curley, plus it’s nice to have a little romance around a F/S playing with us, hopefully the first of many with the Mundy’s and Pavlich’s on the way.

agree with others, short term Sturt or even Freddie backup. But potential for that other wing (we seem to like our wings tall, strong, and good mark and kick with a bit of agro) or even HB (as Ryan back up).

We seem to have picked 3 players that are quite versatile and a bit unknown as to what position they will end up playing. Balls in their court to see where they can shine amongst their already bright and shiny talented young teammates.
