100% held the mark

The umpire called the free kick bloody quick. Was blowing the whistle before Amiss marked it I’d say.

Normally I’d prefer the umpires to let free kicks go if it’s marked anyway but I guess umpires have got to pay what they see when they see it. Ultimately the result was the same in Amiss lining up for goal.

I'm the same. If a player marks it then just pay the mark. But, they are probably under instruction to pay the free if they see it.

Should get a 50m penalty if managing to take the mark whilst being infringed.

Obviously this rule should only apply to Freo players.

Well done to Jye for getting two of his goals into this week's 'Top 10 AFL Highlights'. If only the camera work was good enough to pick up better footage of his incredible mark!
Jye’s goal from deep in the pocket was a ripper. I am straight in line with it.
The Essendon guy kicked one from similar Area, off the ground but was complete arse.

Anyone at the ground get a good review? Idiots played a replay of the lead up and not the mark. Happened so quickly and with a distant camera shot you couldn't really make it out except for it looks like he marked it one handed whilst being held with the other??

That’s what happened . The mark happened so fast and he basically marked it behind him. The ball had passed him from what I saw.

Walters took a nice overhead grab at the other end of the ground. He was held twice in the same contest by two different players, once before he left the ground then dragged down when he was in the air By a different opponent.
Paid the mark but probably wouldn’t have got the clear free kick.

Okay time for another Nev Watch, I have been working on this one for awhile. Today we are going to look at key forwards in the year they turn 20. I have drawn attention where a key forward had played more than a regular season worth of games, before the season they turned 20.

Turning 20

Current key forwards:

Franklin 73@3.3 (his 3rd season after playing 34 games prior)
Cameron 62@3.0
Darling 53@2.2 (had played 23 games prior)
Jesse Hogan 44@2.2
Walker 35@1.9
Georgiades 32@1.5
Naughton 32@1.4
Hipwood 30@1.5
Daniher 28@1.3
Wright 27@1.6
Amiss 25@1.9
Ben King 25@1.5
Max King 22@1.2
Reid 22@0.9
Harry Jones 20@1.2
Curnow 20@1.0
Allen 20@0.9
Gunston 19@1.6
McStay 19@1.0
Ugle-Hagan 18@1.1
Jack Reiwoldt 18@1.0
McDonald 15@0.8
Hawkins 13@1.3
T Lynch 12@0.7
McKay 3@1.5

Past players and Coleman medal winners back to the 80s:

Longmire 98@4.5 won the Coleman (played 27 games prior)
B Taylor 71@4.7
Lloyd 70@3.0 (played 36 games prior)
Lockett 60@3.3 (played 53 games prior)
Roughead 40@1.8
J Brown 38@1.5
Neitz 34@1.6 (played 44 games prior)
S Cummings 32@3.2
Carey 28@2.0 (played 25 games prior)
Lyon 28@1.6
Fevola 27@1.7
A Lynch 24@1.3
Nick Reiwoldt 21@0.9
Gehrig 12@0.5
Kennedy 6@0.4

*According to my research Gablett Snr and Dunstall did not debut before their 20th birthday, but please correct me if my sources are wrong.

So we can see that Jye Amiss fits nicely amongst the top of the group. If he continued at his current average he will have 42-44 goals from 22 games this season. That would rank him above all but Longmire, Franklin, Taylor, Lloyd, Lockett, Cameron, Darling, Hogan* for total goals on the season and those plus Taylor Walker, Scott Cummings and Wayne Carey on average per game.

Who was the *er in the commentary that called Amiss a "slow burn"

Gary's definition of a slow burn:

Hairy Garry.
Well how ironic, with 4 today Amiss has kicked more goals in the season he turns 20 than Garry Lyon.
