The question that I would ask of the medicos at your club is how much articular cartilage has this guy got left in his bung knee. I can tell you from a medical perspective that someone that gets bone bruising easily has lost quite a bit of articular cartilage (personal experience here too).

Early days I know, but it's beginning to look like we dodged a bullet with this one.

Very early days indeed. Unfortunately/fortunately anyway you would like to spin it, the guy had zero interest in joining your club. This along with the fact you had to pay well above what players are worth Hooker Hurley Bellchambers and your so called loyal skipper who also held you to ransom will come back to bite you hard at some stage.

Why would you be concerned is what I would like to ask you?

Is there a link between rupturing a patella and articular cartilage degredation?

It's hard to know whether he's just terribly lacking in fitness (understandable after 2 years out) which is preventing him from running at full tilt for much of the game or whether he has lost his pace. I suspect we won't know the answer until next year. I have no idea about the condition of his knee but it strikes me that he just does not have the tank to play a key midfield role at this point in time which is affecting a lot of his game. He looks knackered out there. We might be better to use him in a different role and pinch hit in the middle for a while until his fitness improves. Roughy the same. Looks unfit.

Some of the returned Essendon players have also begun to slow down. All expected really when you consider how much time they were out for. Further compounded for Rough was that he couldn't train at high intensity while being treated, and O'Meara having been out for double the time. At least the * players were able to train last year.

So those that saw him train last 2 weeks, didn't you report back in how great he was moving?

I don't get your point?

Every player is capable of having an average game, despite training well during the week.

Jaeger is clearly terribly out of sorts though, the past 2 games he has played he hasn't gotten near it.
If your expectations are that he's going to come in and have 35 possessions and 10 clearance in a poor side, you need to lower them. He's still finding his feet in a number of ways.

I am worried about him watching him closely. He doesn't want to be tackled and to me doesnt want to stop and turn at any stage. Runs in straight lines and clearly has zero confidence in his body at the minute. i guess while we are getting pumped any game time is better than nothing.

Jager is not a slow player, i posted last week that i sore some worrying signs from him in games, not taking players on using his burst or kicking when in open space, i quicky got shut down buy ppl who have seen him at training.
alot of players look horrible there first year back from a acl and u see huge improvement there 2nd year back.
2 years out of the game, coming into a team with probably the worst midfield in the game.
he expected to do to much get off his back for now!

It may be part of a whole problem with the articular surfaces of the knee. A problem with the patella's articular surface may be reflected in other articular surfaces. I hope that makes sense.

Amazing how every AFL fan cares about O'Meara. So kind of them all.

In all seriousness, to the Hawthorn supporters, patience. Patience. Patience. Kid has play under 50 games, hasn't got his body right just yet. He will be a gun. Will turn out better than Burgoyne.

TBH, i'd rather have him at Box Hill for a while, slowly building. No value in having him being flogged at AFL level for the next 8 weeks.
It's also no point having him at Box Hill, leaving Tom to learn the way we want to player alone.

Tom and JOM need games together. They both need more support though.

Given the way BHH are playing maybe we should send them both there and try and lock in the flag. Let the younger unknown quantities play in the seniors :)
