We have always known his kicking isnt the sharpest but I think people overplay this and look for it more than others. He has been sensational this year in comparison to his previous 2 years and is on a par with Simpson from North but no one every describes him as a butcher of the ball.

Keep it up Jimmy.

He needs to be made to handball backwards to a teammate whenever he has the ball and is facing the wrong way.

Far too many times he ignores this option, only to try and wheel around and launch a kick - which ends up with the opposition.

He did one absolutely mind-numbing one on the weekend the landed in the lap of two Melbourne players, with no Hawks within 20m of them. It was literally the worst option he could have taken, and he took it.

I must admit I thought it was time for James and Hawthorn to part ways.

Credit where credit is due. Is having a great season. Back to his best. Both James and Connor Nash playing to their current high levels on the inside brute roles allow Day / Newcombe / Mackenzie to play the more outside class roles.

Hopefully a new contact isn’t too far away. A shorter more incentive based contract may be the go as he seems like the sort of personality who needs to be motivated to be at his best.

Looks a lot fitter and more agile this year!

Need some bulls for the midfield so not unhappy with him as a pick if Wrighty and co. think he's worth it.

I just hope he doesn't become known as "the player we passed up Joel Garner for".
I think we can safely say that James Worpel has not become known as the player we passed up Joel Garner for. Because who or what is Joel Garner? He probably would have become known as the player we passed up Joel Garner for if Joel Garner was anything like the great West Indian fast bowler of the same name, but he didn't.

I'm not a religious man, but we can also thank God that Worpel has saved his career. I always thought trading O'Meara and Mitchell would allow Worpel the freedom he needs to return to his 2019 best, and that belief of mine has proven true. He's such an inside beast, and the first half of yesterday was the perfect illustration of that. We need Worpel at his best, so it's good to see he's back in town.

Playing well alongside Newcombe and Nash shows that it wasn't Mitchell or JOM that was getting in his way.

IMO he looks more agile and mobile compared to previous years. That's the key.
All that muscle he put on 2020-2022 seems to have been a hindrance in hindsight...

Automatic midfield starter with Nash, Day and Newk...we are so more more cohesive, all of them getting high 20's disposals every week

Interestingly i feel Tom Mitchell is having the same negative impact on Taylor Adams impact as he had on Worpels. Not a criticism of Tom but always in the spots those players need to be. Worpel has been great this year.

That's why i follow you T4P
Lol mate cheers hahaha

Time for fans to really jump back on the Worps train now!

His last 2 weeks have been incredible, his clearance and contested work has always been a strong point and yeah people will always criticise his kicking skills. He looks like he has addressed this, 16 kicks 35 handballs over the last 2 weeks it's just made him seem like a more complete player playing this way. Just really helping guys like Day and Newcombe have more time and space to use the ball.

Rated high in the league for clearances and contested possessions but is never talked about in outer circles which I find unfair.

24 and looks likely to lead a really strong midfield going forward
