He and Reeves look absolutely primed to have breakout seasons next year.

McEvoy and Hale were a great duo but I never felt their ruck work was anything special. It was their around the grounds work and forward craft that made them dangerous. Reeves and Meek on the other hand are built like brick shithouses and look like they have the potential to be dominant stoppage rucks - and still capable of being influential outside of stoppages.

It's very exciting because ruck dominance could completely transform the side. Providing first use to our midfield instead of them running around trying to win it back all the time. That first use then has the benefit of meaning the backline aren't under as much pressure from the opposition midfield, and the forwards would get better and more frequent delivery inside 50.

Can already picture round 1, first centre bounce. Meek clean tap down to the advantage of Stephens who bursts away and after a couple steps drives it long to the goal square where Reeves stands tall and takes the most uncontested contested mark.
So which out of Meek or Reeves gets the 2023 Norm Smith?

Nope. Thanks to Gold Coast re-signing multiple important players over the course of the last 18 months and not wanting to pay top dollar for a guy playing VFL. There’s multiple stories now that outline Bowes not wanting to leave the Suns and the inside running possibly had was the fact that Dangerfield and Bowes have the same manager.

Sadly yes. You’d be Naiveson to think otherwise

Is anyone else stupidly optimistic about our current ruck group? I'm thinking our first pairing of Reeves and Meek can rival Melbourne's and Freo's in the coming years.
Reeves vs Geelong is what he's capable of. Perfect taps to midfielders, solid contests at worst
He was starting to show more before they put him on ice again.

Meek is more agile and a good foil who I think is capable of going where needed on the ground

Clearly this indicates that Sam is intending to play him at ruck-rover.

Likewise this affords the possibility to play Nash at rover for the ultimate modern day midfield.

You may not like it, but this is peak performance:

R: Reeves, Meek, Nash

You're not popping your mum's tablets again. What have I told you.

What a legend Tucky is, my absolute favourite player growing up but if I’m still on a building site at age 70 then I give any of you to put a bullet in me 😂. What an animal

With longer hair than during his playing career.

Others are losing their hair.

Tucky’s just grows and grows more.

Tucky:

1. on a worksite
2. aged 70
3. fit as a fiddle
4. sporting deeply tanned forearms with
5. long straggly hair and
6. wearing a pink Polo Ralph Lauren polo shirt

is one of the less predictable images from this jumper announcement escapade.

So many questions….

Love it

I was not keen on the Meek trade for anything other than a 3rd rounder as I thought it would disrupt the 2nd and 3rd critical ND drafts (2021, 2022 and 2023). Topiary said that no-one was saying that we would trade more than 3rd rounder.

I felt Reeves and Lynch could hold down the ruck duties for a year with Ramma developing and I had hoped we could snag Esava … which, as it turned out, was possible.

The deal that was done for Meek is impossible to de-construct… the overs and unders for JOM, Meek and the rest of it… I have no clue. Overall, it seemed OK.

What I do know is, everyone who has seen Meek up close loves him as a quality ruck that follows up like a midfielder.

And he is a nice young man… which is a common theme in our recruiting.

Like everyone else I am concerned for Lynch. That last concussion was innocuous. It seemed like a glancing blow. If he gets concussed a few more times then he needs to consider the rest of his life over his football career = He should wear head gear.
So we need coverage.

And while Reeves‘ potential seems high, he is still raw.

So I get it. Meek is a strong contender for our long-term 1st ruck, but more importantly, he is low risk (unlike our other 3 ruckmen).

But I greatly want a ruckman who can consistently take a pack mark as Big Boy did for us and Gawn does for the Dees. If Meek can use his size and mobility to mark consistently in a pack… I will be a full convert to the Lloyd-Meek-Fan-Club.

Oh that's right! Freo invented tackling that year

I was unfortunate enough to catch a train from Geelong to Melbroune that became a bus-ride right after the Dockers had beat the cats that finals series. You should have heard the sychonpantic Cats fans assuring the cocky Dockers fans they'd reinvented football so well that if they could beat Geelong, Hawthorn would be a soda. It was a disgusting circle jerk that went on in a confined space for almost 120 minutes. I've never been so happy (or even happy at all I guess) to see the Southern Cross bus link...

The only redeeming feature about Free is that we got Meek from them, and they regularly allow us to enjoy finals wins.
