I know nothing about the kid apart from posters here wanting him. Is he a real chance to play AFL?

Yes considering he was training with the AFL squad all last preseason/year.

He needs to work on his kicking efficiency under pressure but I have him down to debut before Anasta or Charleson.

He is physically ready. Maybe not round 1 but mid to latter part of the season to debut.

While we seem to have a good hit rate identifying talent, we have a moronic tendency to D and T for a whole lot of the same kind of player in one post season, approx 2-3 years after it becomes apparent its an area of need. Why we so dumb?

Welcome to Port Benny. Hope he kicks plenty of goals early on for the Magpies and we get to see him play AFL in 2025.

Will be up against it. Looks very much a Jake Neade blistering speedy small player type, but Jake got a go when we didn't have much depth and decided to try and out run and gun our oppo in 2013-14 years. Benny wont get that type of benefit from selectors as we are a lot better placed than a decade ago.

Might get to captain the PNG Mosquitoes if the International Cup ever comes back.

I like how we draft kids the last few years and get to watch most of them that have highlights from playing at Alberton Oval in U/18 state games. At least that's one small thing they are familiar with about the club. That will be reduced maybe even stop when the crows build their new facility.

These were his stats in the SANFL reserves, as a 17-18 year old. They're pretty reasonable numbers. There's every reason to think that if things go well for him, and the opportunity is right, he would play AFL at some stage. 1732349500627.png

His tackle stats are pretty crazy!

There'd be a fair buzz around Adelaide Oval when he goes near it for his debut if he makes it.

Crazy good at tackling, which comes from his rugby background. Quite strong in the contest too at u18 but perhaps this is the question recruiters had on him, whether if he'd be able to compete at AFL level in contest.

His work at ground level is also class. And he's got the speed to burn. Would say he's got good footy fundamentals and the natural goal kicking ability. Expect him to be a fan favourite at SANFL level next year. Then transition from Rioli.

The issue for Barrett, as is with Rioli, is consistency. We always need one of these X factor players so wouldn't be surprised if he played next year when Rioli gets suspended or injured.

His first quarter and a half against Vic Metro was dynamic. Snapped a brilliant crumbing goal in the first 30 secs and then had a number of similar clean grab, low down swoop pick ups at very high speed across HF/wing. Reminds me most of Rodan the way he uses his speed and low centre of gravity to collect the ground ball with acceleration. I suspect consistency will be his biggest challenge. His best is electric.
