Player Watch Welcome to Port Adelaide Pick #15 (2024) - Joe Berry

Does a hybrid forward mean that he can turn into a four-legged creature when required?

I love football vernacular.

For me, a hybrid forward would be Toby Green, Jake Stringer or Robbie Gray. Can mark (both on the lead and in the contest) and crumb or run on the loose ball equally well. The defensive pressure also is a bonus. Can Berry take contested marks? If he can, then we've got ourselves a very dangerous player.
No, hybrid forward means he’s a petrol sniffer but has also been known to lick his finger and touch live wires.

Plenty here to suggest he can play up the ground and around the ball. Can mark, tackle and run.

Watched 30 secs of potato cam and couldn't do it anymore on my phone lol.

Anyone know how much penetration he has in his kick? Hopefully a bit more than Robbie.

Definitely looks like we've got a type, picking another Robbie/Butters type small fwd after the ones we picked last year.

Hope there is some balance in the recruiting rooms and not all just swayed by similar traits.

Freo and GWS were expected to bid for Berry and Port rated him a significantly better player for our needs than anyone else. Whether this is the right call or not will need time to tell but our recruiters are pretty good and I trust them on this.
We were taking best available was what Parker said leading in. I imagine they had Berry at the top of the list, a little hard to believe we would have him above Reid tho.

Its hard to judge any media put out by the club leading in, feels like most of it could be complete fluff.

Happy to be wrong but unless Joe Berry is genuine Robbie Gray quality ( which is probably unlikely), I have a feeling both WA clubs maye have conned us to give up picks 16 and 45 to move up 1 slot for Berry, and letting them get what they wanted in Bo Allen and Murphy Reid with the next two picks after us, and I suspect we could be rueing not selection specifically Reid within a few short seasons, because I believe with his footy IQ he will be a gun.

As others have already suggested Berry has to be ready to go from round one, McEntee should have been delisted, Anastopuoplos will probably fall by the weighside after looking promising at times last season, and it's hard now to see why we even bothered to trade for Richards from the wobblers in the first place, and let's not forget kern's penchant for expecting undersized forwards to continually attempt to body up one out against defenders at least 10 kegs heavier and 10 centre metres taller when the ball is regularly kicked in too high.

He’s quick hand to foot which I love in a small. Underrated skill.

If he can force his way into our best 23 alongside SPP, Luko and Richards we will be a much changed front half from last season.

One of those things where you need to trust the club. If the club truly believes Reid can only make it as a forward at AFL level, then you may as well pivot to Berry who is already playing well as a forward.

If there are two people in the entire industry whose instincts I trust, it’s Robbie Gray and Zak Butters. If they picked him, thats good enough for me.

Welcome Joe, cant wait to see what you can do.

He kind of reminds me of Sam Gray
