Universal Love Welcome to Richmond Adem Yze

As i've said in another post tho - don't forget that the club took nearly 5 months before it settled on a replacement.

We only picked him from the options that were available, which was a very small, inexperienced, frankly underwhelming bunch.

Mini. X-Clarke we touted as his biggest rivals. I said it at the time, i strongly doubt our next coach will be the coach we need, its the next hire we need be always on the lockout for.

I feel like Adem needs to really sort out the path he is taking this club on and start endorsing that in his pressers, messages etc. At the moment i feel like he is stuck between doing right by the old guys and trying to empower a young core.

His onfield coaching has been acceptable, although not eye-catching. Its more his pressers and the eye test stuff that has me starting to get concerned. He hasn't screamed " strong leader" so far and with our complete lack of leaders since Cotch, Dimma, Balme, Peggy, Rance, Houli. Jack .... all left the club, what we needed most from our new coach was strong leadership.

So far he has not been able to provide that, and to make matters worse, Benny Gale has vanished and appears somewhat broken when he does appear. Who is our strongest leader right now? To be frank, the ship feels rudderless atm. Thats what scares me.

The decision to move Balme on prematurely feels worse under this light, however I think his departure might have more to do with some personal politics between Neil and Adem (feel Neil was not his biggest advocate) which most likely made it untenable.

As things currently sit though, i'd think having a guy like Neil around to face the media and offer some sage advice could have been somewhat useful, even if he is an old-ditty scallywag as some suggested

Media-wise? Adem has had no help. It's been a pretty poor effort by the club to get around him and take the load off
Fair points you make.

That's why it's super important to beefup the footy department. Get the right and quality people in around Yze. A Choco etc.

By no means Livingstone and Hartley and Gale shouldn't escape criticism. Their running the footy department and made a few to much half hearted decisions on staff, players retiring , recruitment etc. It's not like all these problems arrived with this season far from it began before Yze arrived.

On Balme 💯 agree his the cool head and calm administrator we need. We don't know the situation tho . But he said he wanted to go on.

He hasnt had much to choose from in fairness mate.

I think he was always going to respect the older guys early on and give them first crack.

He has shown, even with an injury ravaged list, often fielding less than half a best 22, or no midfield, or no forwards, that his style can hold up. Its been a cattle issue, not a coaching one.
Hopefully now that we're getting some cattle back we will start to see the style of play that Yze wants us to play being executed better. He mentioned when appointed that he wanted us to play a strong contested brand of footy and a really strong team defensive structure. We've been trying to play that way throughout the season but as you said the lack of cattle has meant that we struggle to play it at a consistent level from quarter to quarter let alone week to week.

Neil Balme is still at Richmond as a Senior Advisor. He appears on RSN every few weeks. He is also 72, has epileptic seizures and a number of other health issues that have impacted his behaviour. He has not been prematurely moved on, he has rightly been advised by the club, for his own good, that his time there is up at the end of this season
I thought he was sacked when they invited him to lunch.

Seems bit funny the situation. Didn't see it coming and wanted to go on. Even as part time based his input is so valuable. Is there in any truth in him and Yze relationship ?.
Definitely some friction there as it was a bizarre way to end his tenure. Plus the restrictions they put on him before Yze was selected and then on game days afterwards. I won't mention anymore about it as i was told of a horrible event that happened between them in his playing days under Balme. I'm starting to believe it now as the place has become frozen since his arrival.
Personally if true or not it's best Balme moves on as it's time for a new era now and with his ill health and age i think it's goodbye time. Still an appalling way to end his tenure.

Serious question to all on here.
What positives have people identified with his coaching this year? I'm actually struggling to find any and he looks like he's been spat out of Dimma's photocopier with a blot of ink here and there.
He has backed players publicly and declared they will get an opportunity to establish themselves ... and he has kept those commitments ... to Lefau after his first game ... of course Dow ... to Balta playing forward (which is probably why he gave him another two weeks after coming back from injury) ... to Ross after playing a second half in the midfield declared he would remain there next week in the presser ... he comes across as glass half full ... though he doesn't hide genuine disappointment at the result or the injuries.

Has definitely had some tactical wins in defending and disrupting numerous teams, especially Sydney ..

Where he has fallen down is the third quarter, in particular, the 10 minutes after the half ... I put this down to too large an emphasis on trying to teach or change game plan ... either way it usually a result of too much information ... not enough positive feedback and changes being jumped into in a way that is being perceived as critical also has this effect ... that's my perspective from my time coaching ...

He hasn't head coached a team before ... just like a player ... there are things that can only be learnt from experience ... he has definitely been around coaching and you can tell by how relaxed he is with the media ... but you probably need to remember how little he has faced a 2-11 record. He has been used to winning.

No friction at all.
The discussion was a mature conversation held with Balmeys best interests at heart. You know the Tigers look after our people. It’s been the underlying strength thru this entire journey.
Did he want to continue? For sure, but who’s going to call time on themselves in these circumstances?
Has he left the building? No. That should answer all the questions.

Too many coincidences for my liking and knowledge. Balme even suggests that he was expecting to still be there and seems hurt by it.
He’s hardly involved in anything nowadays and of course he hasn’t left the building as he’s still contracted. Why isn’t he in the coaches box and why wasn’t he on the coach interview and selection panel? A man of his knowledge and expertise would’ve been invaluable, but he was shut out. So what is he actually doing there now if he’s not involved with the coach especially on game day ? He’s basically just counting the minutes down to his retirement and it’s obvious the place is a shambles atm with no leadership from the top. Nearly everything is questionable and vacancies and poor staff are everywhere as people are leaving the Titanic.

Having health issues maybe a good valid reason. Let it go.

Can someone tell Uzi that it's allowed to bring a sub on prior to the last 10 mins of the game. Has he actually used a tactical sub prior to the last quarter yet? Still can't believe Smith got 5 mins then dropped, considering every week there's passengers galore that can be dropped. Must've done wonders for both his morale and confidence. He must be beating himself up for not racking up 8 touches in that time..... wouldn't have mattered anyway. Mcaulliffe does that and its still not good enough to impress Uzi. With the 2021 Draft haul not looking like saviours I'm tipping Uzi will most likely just be a stopgap coach, gone in a few years.

So 3qtr time is 10mins til the end?
You’re struggling with our predicament, I get it, but this will pass my friend.
They’re playing the long game with these kids, give em a taste, back to VFL etc
It’ll be ok.

Wow I think we are falling apart. Talk about being reactive. We need to stand behind the club. Geez when we beat the crows we were on top of the world. Give Ooze a chance. I would rather Adem than DH that ran when the going got too tough. Go Tiges.

Some might have been on top of the world, but most us realists knew that we just got over the top of a similarly woeful team v Adelaide.

I would rather players such as McAuliffe & Smith start games & use players such as Graham or any players coming back from long term injuries to be sub. These kids need to be backed in & believe they belong, no issues with them being subbed out after 2/3 of the game or a bit longer, as long as they are instructed to go hard for the time they are on the ground.

thats good to hear, what was all the media and interviews a few months back then about him being moved on? wtf was all that about? Certainly read and sounded like he was moved on. And the fact his only media appearances are RSN ( a predominately horse racing network ), suggest his role has certainly changed a fair bit?

I said previously, i'd rotate Graham & Presita week to week, just to improve the chances that at least one of them is playing to protect the kids in the middle.

Problem is, they cant stay fit long enough to even do that.

Do you find positives with anything?
