What I struggle with is that some of the same people who claim Yze is no good also claim that our list is no good.

Well if the list is no good then surely it wouldn't matter who we had coaching we would have issues. Hardwick was before he left, McQualter did the whole time and Yze with the worst injury crisis the club has seen in years plus stars on the decline has also battled for consistency.

The upcoming off season will be our most important since 2016 and it can either set us up or set us back.
Exactly and it's not like we haven't seen the decline happening. Rejuvenation should have happened after that loss to the Lions in the final. Football department and hierarchy went about it the wrong way. What happened we gave away alot of great picks and haven't had a top 20 pick in 2 seasons to yet we're worse off with the marquee recruits. Yze has copped the worse of the decline.

When Yze first joined the club, he said something along the lines of not wanting to change too much, just a few adjustments here and there. Hopefully with a year under his belt, he knows the players better etc and we see more change in 2025.

Nah just a realist, and my eyes tell me there's something completely disfunctional on and off the ground that need serious attention.
You put it solely on Yze through. You don't look above him as a whole they get a free pass no accountability. That's we're people have blinkers on. Alot of issues blind freddy could see before Yze arrived.

Yze is the coach and has been for nearly 12 mths.

Anyway I've shared my thoughts, let's see how it plays out

Who's pressure, intensity and tackling on basics of footy no skill needed there ?. No matter what level that's on the players and as you say 💯 not negotiable.
This is the biggest worry for me as we are the poorest performing club in these areas. That’s coaching as it should be stamped on and if message isn’t getting through then players need to be dropped.

100% but the older players have checked out to a degree for sure
You can see the lack of tackling, they protecting their bodies

Judge on next year after full pre season and clean out

To be fair, Yze pretty much had the existing structure…players…coaches allocated for him this season

I’m expecting him to take control of his assistants and have a greater say in out playing list
He also needs to define a game plan that players buy into and understand

So I will reserve my judgment until next season unfolds….

very true
The game plan is definitely different to Dimmas, so there was always going to be a period of adjustment.

And then on top of that we’ve had multiple injuries and a list with very little young talent on it , let’s be honest the worst in the competition).

I think a major clean out at seasons end, give Yze this draft and the next couple to get as many R1 & 2 picks in before the Tasmania team arrives.

If we figure out by that stage he’s not the man for the job then we move on.
People forget , like the WCST job not everyone put their hand up for the gig, Carr wasn’t interested, don’t think Cox was either.

Our best 23 will have missed something like 160 games total by the end of the season. Normally about 90 games missed is entering season wipeout terrain for most clubs, as far as contending goes. Around 60 is average.

There is no way Yze can be fairly judged on events of this season. Those unavailabilities are off the scale. The club and supporters just needs to omit 2024 from any assessment of the coach, treat 2025 as if it is the coach's first season, and go from there.

That’s right, don’t get me wrong it’s disappointing the season we have had. Think of the positives Yze and the club have seen first hand what our playing list is like. Looking fwd to delist/trade periods then the draft.

Things I want Yze to get sorted between now and the end of the season.

1. Get answers from Martin Baker Daniel & Bolton about their futures. Are they fully committed to Yzes plan or not. If not then send them on their way. If they are leaving it doesn't need to be announced publicly until after the season ends, but it would be great to have clarity around list management decisions early rather than being caught off guard with a request being made in trade week.

2. Have honest conversations with the likes of Grimes Prestia Pickett McIntosh Graham Broad about the likelihood that they'll be playing VFL next year if they remain with the club.

3. Decide on where he wants Balta to play moving forward and stick to it rather than the constant changes. If it's down back, then leave him there and take the lumps that come with not having a forward line for the remainder of the year. At least then it also give Toce and Hartley clear understanding of list needs for the trade/free agency and draft periods. As a bonus it would be great to get him re-signed early on to remove the speculation that will run rampant through next year.

4. Make calls on the remaining uncontracted players for 2024. Give them clarity on whether they'll be kept on or not. There are also some hard decisions that will need to be made and some players who some supporters would be happy to keep could very well be moved on.

5. Along with Balta there are a few others who need to be settled into positions rather than being shifted around. I understand that some of the moves have been due to players carrying niggles, but we need to be building consistency with the line up and while there is only 4 games left there is plenty to be gained by getting the line up settled again to give the list management team clarity about what type of players we need to target during the off season.

I have no doubt that a lot of these things are already happening, and as I said ideally all of these things have been sorted by time the last game is played so that we can move forward with a clear plan in place.

Might be unpopular but at this stage I think I would prefer if we just ripped the bandaid off re Dusty

Tell him we don’t have a spot for him on the list next year it’s his call now if he wants to move on or retire

He’s become a distraction and playing him next year is only taking game time away from a younger player who will be invested for more than the next two years at a maximum

And in a full strength team, if we’re being honest with the player he actually is now, he is kind of a fringe/role player.

Yes...if the old GOAT was doing what an ageing Pendles is capable of doing, and has been doing...
Then Yeah...stick around for next year...
The Media have accomplished what the Goat's oppo could never do...put the GOAT into fatigue territory with his supporters.
Thank ye for the memories...I mean if BGale canna come out and be a tad more proactive concerning all the scuttlebutt hitting the Club currently...then why should the supporters.
Sayonara and Goneskiara...thank you for the beautiful memories...time to start making big calls for the future of the Club!

Dusty is only a distraction to those outside the club.

If he wants to play on at Richmond, given the prognosis on his fitness is ok, the club is 100% compelled to give him the opportunity to do so. You don't cut a player's career short when he is that good. Plenty of other players can be moved aside for youngsters to get games if that is even required.

The club and Yze.
player retirements will happen last couple of weeks and Yze is fully aware of the real trade situation at the club. but trade plans fall through, so we may have to retain players this year.
Maybe Martin comes good in the next month.
Delisting would be being discussed now but they come last.

Balta forward came as a "luxury" of having Gibcus & Young starting KPD. Modern football has seen Brown get chucked fwd & play OK. Young & Gibcus injured and Balta back.

Miller came in and is now a lock for KPD you'd think. Maybe Gibcus fwd.

Without Lynch the 2 KPF thing is a fail. Fawcett, Le Fau injured. Ryan needs 2 more years of development. Bauer can't get a game. Be interesting to see if we draft.

Dusty hasn't been the same since that kidney injury and while he played a large part in delivering the flags, nobody is bigger than the club and the club must do what is best for the club.

When you put it like that, it's no surprise to find we look as bad as we do.

Just as players start to settle we're changing their roles and then you have supporters wondering why we struggle to play consistently

He was fantastic the only time he had a decent run at it, in 2023. After a slowish start to the season he ended up the second highest rated specialist forward in the AFL behind Toby Greene. That was after his kidney injury. This is not 2017 levels but that was a level nobody has probably achieved before or since. His 2023 was well in line with his form in most of his other best seasons, especially once you allow for the fact he didn't play much in the midfield. And he was in superb form at the end of the season, so if we'd played finals you just know what would have happened.

In 2023 no player in the AFL got more disposals AND scored more goals per game than Dusty. And whilst you can also say that for a number of other players, they are all elite.

People's memories are getting very short around here.

It's the end of 2024, you're talking about the end of 2023, and I'm talking about what we need to be doing in 2025.
