Well done Geelong for finally taking a stand

Players always nominate 1 club in Victoria ala Shiel , Beams, McGovern,Wingard and there is never a thing said but how dare a player want to nominate a interstate club .

That is without even mentioning Ablett and Dangerfield who came to your club

Sigh this again.
Dangerfield was a FA, Ablett asked for a trade 12 months prior and GC denied the move, he then said his family situation was that bad if a trade couldn't get done he'd retire.
We then paid overs for a 34 year old who'd played a dozen games the previous 2 years...
It has nothing to do with nominating a club, that's completely fine. It was the social media campaign from his missus and manager to make out how dire their family situation was and how desperate they were to get home, then the threats of walking out, then the threats of bringing in the AFLPA to mediate.
All while limiting any move purely to WCE.
On top of that all those other trades were done at the value agreed upon.
No other players played that media game like the Kellys, no other player tried to make their club out to look like the devil, no other player continued to restrict their move once it seemed unlikely their nominated club could do the deal (look at May who towards the end said any Victorian club would do).
You cannot expect GFC fans and AFL fans in general to swallow the dire and desperate family situation then at the same time not question why they limited themselves by only saying WCE.

Before they were drafted both Ablett and Dangerfield played for a Geelong based side and resided in the Geelong area and surrounds, just like Henderson, Rohan and Dahlhaus, hence the want to go 'home.' Ablett was also originally a Geelong player who was stolen away for the AFL's best interests. Dangerfield was a FA who had given 8 years of service to the AFC. Completely different circumstances to all those other players you mentioned who nominated a team.

Before Kelly was drafted he played for a Fremantle based side which is only a stones throw away from Perth where he wanted to return.

It's starting to become a really boring counter argument and not one that is well thought out. The situations are like chalk and cheese.

Kelly wanting to return home had bugger all to do with family circumstances. His self-absorbed partners eyes lit up when she seen the offer put forward by the Eagles. Tim himself is clearly happy at Geelong, he said so himself. There is not one direct quote from Tim that indicates he is unhappy at Geelong or wanted to return home. It's all come via his incompetent manager and his selfish partner.

West Coast supporters can continue to be disgruntled and play the victim card but the reality is that the West Coast Eagles themselves created this mess by promising the world and delivering nothing. 6 years of unfulfilled promises. They promised to get him home but refused to pay the taxi fare.
3 second round picks was a slap in the face to him and his family.

It really is quite amusing the amount of angst over a player who only a year ago nominated for the draft knowing he could be taken by any of the 16 clubs outside of Perth. If the family situation was that important he'd have refrained from nominating for the draft and stayed at South Fremantle where he seemed happy. Or requested a transfer to West Perth, East Perth, Claremont or Subiaco for family reasons.

It all depends how you frame it though. I've said in other threads that you could consider the AFL as the employer (they bring in the income, they make the rules, etc) and clubs are akin to departments or branches.

An organisation can place restrictions on which branch or department you work at, even direct you to a particular one. If you don't like it, yes you can go elsewhere, like the SANFL or coaching or media etc.

Not saying I'm 100% right but I think the concept applies to a degree.
Is it time for AFL contracts not individual club contracts? Should newly drafted players be given a three year deal and free agency reduced to six years? This is an unusual case, 99% of young players who nominate for the draft are just hoping to be picked by anyone. They then have a couple of years to prove their worth and make a play for the multi million dollar contract. IMO those couple of years should increase to three...

So what happens next year? More likely than not to want to move. And Freo shat on him, so it's eagles only.

So a first rounder if we feel compassionate or a second rounder.

Regardless of which pick, was the stance worth it?
He will be a first round pick next year. unless of course West Coast renege yet again...t

So we both skip him for 5 years cause he crap.
Both are interested when he stops being crap.
Both skip him on our first draft pick.
WC skip on second Geelong grab him on second. All this over the space of about 6 picks (21-26).

Suddenly that means WCE undervalues him and Geelong are his saviors.

It's a stupid line of argument and you know its a stupid line of argument so stop writing it. Basically if you don't want trolls then stop trolling.

No we don't value him highly enough to cripple 4 (2 from draft picks 2 from no future trading) draft periods over him. I wonder if the positions were reversed would you be willing to pay that price?
Would West Coast have picked Kelly ahead of Liam Ryan at pick 26? That would've left GWS with the next two picks and they most certainly would've grabbed him! Both WA clubs buggered this up, the fault lies completely at the feet of both the Dockers and Eagles.

His selfish partner with three kids - one with special needs

Love the water you are drinking. You kept your player. seems like it’s all going plain smooth sailing :) well done.

Do you know anything about autism?
Yes i do, im a crisis care foster carer and take in special needs kids for short term placements.

Some of the kids require a lot of you - and others not so much. 3 ordinary kids by yourself without family assistance is exhausting.

Think this is going to backfire massively for Geelong. Eagles will offer a second rounder next year and no more. Geelongwill have to accept as if they let him go to the draft they get nothing for him. Eagles will run the risk of him going to the draft as they know Geelong would rather have a second round pick than have nothing.

Geelong will just trade him to Freo.

Or another club will pick him up in the draft.

Perhaps even Freo will pick him up and then trade him to us a week before draft occurs.

Endless possibilities.

Geelong can’t just trade him to Freo, you can’t be traded against your wishes. They can either accept what West Coast offer them or send him to the draft. Why would Geelong send him to the draft for nothing? It would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

My wife does it. And home schools at the same time.

On rookie salary too.

A deal will get done next year if he wishes to leave and it'll be adequate compensation.

Anything else is pure fantasy.
