Brown paper bags not required, there's no cap on footy department spending.
That is, unless you're a pathetic club like Norf - then your spending is limited to the spare change you can beg off the AFL
So you spend $4 million more last year than NM on your football department and you don't make the eight. Great work:thumbsu:

Pretty jealous of Norfs finals campaign I must admit.
So let's summarise, you take millions of dollars from pensions and blokes like Duritz and then piss it up the wall on a footy department that doesn't win you anything and then still take Jeannie's cash to satiiate Chris Jackass' greed. Great work:thumbsu: and you wonder how you got your draft picks taken away from you :p

Whereas Carlton have to beg for a lot more than spare change to cover the crippling debt they are in.

Please don't tell us how rich the Blues are read your own financial report...the real one.

Carltons biggest waste of money was buying 20% of Norf in the 90s, I bet those share prices have bottomed out since then

Spending time in Sydney makes me glad I live in Perth and don't have to have "Pokies" rammed down our throats from every pub and club in town.

Pity footy clubs have gone to this extent to fund their off field arms race.

You would have just blown that money on more spuds for your football department.

Congratulations Bosk. Lets hope your club doesn't rely on that money in the future.
Cheers Bigeasy. Lets hope your club doesn't go broke trying to match the football department spending of clubs who make money from pokies.

Adelaide

The Crows currently have no poker machines. They did have an association with a gaming venue at AAMI stadium which was called Crow’s Tavern; however, this association ended after Port Adelaide joined the AFL. Both South Australian clubs participate in the AFL through a licensing agreement with the SANFL and AAMI Stadium, and as both clubs were co-tenants of the stadium, the SANFL took the venue back from Adelaide and renamed it Checkside.
Adelaide has a sponsorship deal with online betting company Tattsbet. They formerly had a deal with BetEzy, who operated a branded betting website, crowsbet, on their behalf. This has since been shut down.
Adelaide also has sponsorship deals with SA Lotteries and Adelaide Casino. It formerly had a sponsorship deal with the Avoca Hotel which has 33 poker machines.

The Royal Oak had previously been run by Richmond and the Vic Inn by the Western Bulldogs; in 2010 ALH boss and former Carlton director Bruce Mathieson terminated their leases and handed them over to Carlton. The Manningham Club had previously been partnered with the Brisbane Lions.
Carlton has a sponsorship deal with online betting company SportingBet.

The Magpies are the biggest players in the Victorian poker machine scene, although Carlton is not far behind. Collingwood has four poker machine venues: the Diamond Creek Tavern, The Club, The Coach & Horses and The International. The VCGLR recently approved an application from Collingwood to move The International’s poker machines to a new venue (the East Ridge Club) just down the road; this has not happened yet.
Collingwood has a sponsorship deal with online betting company Sportbet, replacing their deal with TAB Sportsbet. They also have a branded betting website, magpiesbet, operated by BetEzy. Neither the Collingwood or BetEzy websites make any mention of an association between the two, so it’s most likely that this website pre-dates the deals with Sportsbet & TAB Sportsbet and has never been closed down.

North Melbourne have signed a deal with World Vision, which precludes them from earning any future revenue from gambling for the duration of their association.

The Power are in a similar position to the Adelaide Crows, participating in the AFL through a licensing agreement with the SANFL. However, they were formed out of an existing SANFL club (Port Adelaide Magpies) and as such have retained control of one poker machine venue, The Port Club in Alberton.

I freely admit that Pokies are morally questionable means of generating income. I'm not crazy about the idea of my club is making money from problem gamblers either.

HOWEVER. Football is a dog eat dog business and every Victorian club ha got to do what it can to survive. Football department spending is the new arms race, and if you can't keep up you'll be left behind.
Norf supporters are welcome to go **** themselves sideways. Watching them trying to act high and mighty because their club generates $0 from pokies is laughable given Norf tried to make money from pokies like everyone else did and FAILED. Pretending Norf gave up Pokies for purely moral reasons is laughable and I know most Norf supporters would rather see their club generate revenue from pokies instead of fold or relocate.

I have nothing whatsoever against Doggies supporters, but the idea that Pokies revenue should be shared with clubs who have done nothing to earn it is ridiculous, its Communism at its finest. (or worst, depending on your perspective)

Let me put this to you Bosk.

If Vlad were to say that they would scrap the CoLA for Sydney and GWS in it's entirety but only if that was tied to a deal that all Clubs can not receive a cent from Pokies, would you be supportive of this plan? I use the CoLA as an example of 'unfair' advantage as not all states in Australia allow for Pokie rorting.

There will come a day when legislation will forcibly remove Pokies and/or the pressure of Political Correctness will illicit Vlad issuing such an edict.
Would you want your club reliant on that money and unprepared for when it's gone.

We are not the only League in Australia with clubs and administrators facing this quandry.

well duritz has to piss his pension check somewhere

Bosk, I have no doubt you were in a state of ecstasy as you were able to bang out a thread about a club profiting from shoving something into a small slot whilst coloured lights and music jingle in the background.

Can't think of any Freudian connotation here at all...
I believe your trying to describe what they call a fruit machine.*

I always wanted to say that one time.
