Yep, was the story of the day. But, if you take out the Hawks players that shouldn't be playing it would have been a much closer game. It is bullshit if you are still in the AFL finals you get to play anyone.

Who are those Hawks players that shouldn't have been playing?
Duryea was given permission, by your club and the VFL, to play on the condition that Spangher and Anderson didn't.

I haven't seen the bees play this year until now, only have BF insight. The things I found interesting!
-McDonald is going to be a player, look like a guy who'd been on a list trying to crack a game for years his kicking while sometimes over shooting the mark would be great with its penetration if directed at Petrie, Black etc...
-Kennedy is much better than the haters would have you believe. At his age though he should be and I really would like to see him tried in Spuds postion. A tall half forward flank could be an option as he seems to have some great agility and is good with he ball in his hands.
-Warren, McKinley, Ross and Speight, while having their moments I am so glad they aren't on our list anymore! All have great attributes but are just not quite good AFL standard players
-Currie and Goldy need each other, its VFL and teams understand the benefit of ganging up on solo ruckman
-Really just couldn't shake the feeling of wishing Majak was playing

I think we may have been blinded by the quality we are seeing. Am really not sure he's quality at much more than looking like a footballer.

He's got the awareness of a deaf man with ordinary eye sight.

I had believed via BF he was walking out on us, I now believe the post ahead of mine, we've told him to pack his bags and take his hearing aids and Labrador with him.

You really ought to be ashamed of yourself. Would you say something like that to his face.

Again shame on you.

Oh really was abut tongue in cheek. And would I say it go his face ? Of course , as I stated he wouldn't hear it !

His awareness is terrible at VFL level, he'd get killed in the AFl.

My mistake, I thought Savage wasn't normally eligible but he did play the bare minimum of six matches.

It is fair enough letting Duryea play, he is VFL quality. :p

Sorry to burst the AK bubble, he has some good attributes, but I thought he made some glaring mistakes that resulted in goals kicked against, kicking or handballing right into the defender on at least 3-5 occasions that I saw. If he tidys up his decision making then maybe he'd be AFL ready.
That's probably why he's not getting a crack at AFL level. But not to be hypocritical, Sierra made exactly the same mistakes as well.
But boy am I glad we got rid of Warren and McKinley. Did they even touch the ball?

Re: Ayden Kennedy... I think he has become a victim of the dual alignment. If we had just the 1 VFL team, Luke Delaney would be playing as the true full-back 80% of the time, allowing AK to play more in the Spud role of CHB/HBF. Kennedy never was going to - and never will - be a full-back at AFL level.

If you switched the alignment teams of Kennedy & Cam Delaney, then Cam would also presumably be playing out of position at full back... & would also be struggling imo. As an attacking defender, I'd just prefer AK over CD... But I'm thinking it will be CD getting the opportunities moving forward.

I know there are positives of having the dual alignment, but I think we need to align with one or the other.

AK made several absolute howlers. This against the Box Hill Hawks. Against the Hawthorn Hawks he probably gives up 6 goals.

At least he busted a gut in the 2nd half.

Well for what it's worth, my take on yesterdays game...:
Kennedy has the skills, and worked hard all day but lacks support in the back line. Hopefully he gets an opportunity in the seniors at some point. I did think on application and effort he was best for Werribee;
MacDonald. Well it's been said about a million times so I won't say it again;
Gysberts. Will never be AFL standard.
Speight. So disappointing. What has happened to him. A shell of what he used to be.
Ross I thought was really good.
Siera. Blah.
Currie. Worked hard but on a day like yesterday really should dominate more in the air.
McGennis worked hard and did his job. Will he make AFL level? Unsure.

Lucky the entire senior side never make any mistakes and all tore apart the VFL before their promotion.

Fwiw AK shows enough to me to question why he never got a glimpse this year after 4 years on the list.

Can only presume the club knows something we don't. Purely on exposed VFL form I'd have given him a shot especially when the seniors couldn't buy a win.

  1. Kennedy - very good but won't get a game at AFL level until he improves awareness and his defensive skills. Behind C Delaney, Firrito, Grima and McMahon for his role.
  2. Currie - outstanding tap ruckman who also has a presence at clearances. Needs to take more marks and get involved a bit more around the ground. Keep as back up to Goldie.
  3. McGenniss - really like him, great defensive skills and hunger for the contest. Expect him to develop into a nice 2nd tier mid/flanker.
  4. Macdonald - don't know what all the fuss is about!
  5. Siera - Has a crack and is pretty neat but at the moment is pretty vanilla and relies on uncontested ball in a quarter back role. Plenty of those types about but keep for depth.
  6. Speight - I'm disappointed because I was once a huge fan. Appears he knows his time is up.
  7. Gysberts - Surprised by the negativity. Another pre-season and he'll be pushing top 25 as a depth midfielder. Definitely keep.

All players make mistakes but it stood out to me fwiw. I said in another thread he's better than Gys and Sierra from what I saw, but his awareness and decision making isn't the greatest.
He was trying to take the game on, but you gotta expect a tackle if you're surrounded by 3-4 opposition players and release it quicker.

My post read more disagreeable than intended, the comments were posed more at the club.

Agree with your take on it.

Does seem strange he hasn't got at least one game to see what he can do.
AK looks better than Sierra, but I guess he's up against Scotty T, Hansen, Grima, Firrito and McMahon.
If he doesn't get delisted, then maybe they're taking a long-term view of development with him.
