West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

No priority pick please, just drop the whole thing. Is more draft dilution.

North's tin rattling has made things harder for us no doubt, but it needs to stop. If we get additional picks, it'll just cause another team to suffer down the track.

At worst you give a pick that needs to be traded or additional cap space to attract players and coaches.
That what I said before kangas
And look where we are already
Club number 2
Club number 3 will be next because of number 2 norther academies and so forth.
Then club number 4 and 5 beacause of Tasmania

What is your evidence that they were some of the most vocal?

What is defined as some?

I don’t need evidence this is Bigfooty pal

"self inflicted incompetence" ............. such an accurate assessment.

Why does the AFL keep rewarding clubs for unprofessional management ??

Time for priority picks to be banned completely forcing clubs to be run better and if they do go off the rails, then they have to dig themselves back out of the hole.

PP's penalise all of the other clubs in the competition as well.

Other than attempting to trade the likes of McGovern, Gaff, Yeo, Cole, Duggan etc what else could they have done? There's potential none of those players were willing to move

North has set the precedent.

The AFL want watchable, competitive football matches.

Despite being the 2018 Premiers, WC is unwatchable. And despite what a few Eagles fans thought start of the season, they don’t look like being competitive for a long time.

So, the only position the AFL has is to give them draft concessions. None of us like it, but they have made their bed.

Question is do they follow the same process by starting with giving the Eagles first access to 2 state league players this year.

Time for F/S and Academy bids to be canned too, at least for the first round. It's giving some teams an advantage over others, and allowing some top teams to take top talent off the board which disadvantages bottom teams.

Whether we get picks or not is irrelevant, but we do need rule changes in our favour.

Both us and Freo get shafted when it comes to the soft cap because we get brought back to a level playing field there because it’s “unfair” whilst the way the rest of the comp is run is far from fair.

We are a rich club but don’t get to use the money to offset the imbalances we have due to location.

That and not getting access to many players on the trade market or even our own academy leaves us with minimal options.

Basically head to an increasingly compromised draft system with low picks (due to a decade of success) and pick local players and hope they come good.

AFL needs to step in and appoint some management.

Current internal mob can’t seem to get it done.

The AFL has brought this on themselves. Continually cutting spending, compromising drafts. What did they think was going to happen to one of the most isolated teams in the league?

Freo are doing alright to start this season, sure. But they’ve been shite for 30 years and have a bucket load of high draft picks in their prime currently on their list.

Continually trying to make the comp “even” because some clubs can’t carry their own weight financially is starting to have a negative impact on the field because everything else about the competition from a sporting perspective is severely compromised.

Some people will use the old argument that "your club got draft assistance so why can't ours ?".

People need to take off their club caps & goggles when looking at this issue, its a flawed system that is historically inconsistent in its application.

Clubs make their own decisions when it comes to electing boards, appointing admin staff, hiring coaches, drafting players, securing sponsors etc etc etc.

They all have take responsibilty for the decisions they make and the consequences accordingly.

Presume you'll be happy to give up access to the Camporeale boys as to ensure fair access to the draft for everyone then?

Woe is you .......

Open the other eye.
"I'm happy for draft advantages to teams to be scrapped, except the one that directly benefits my team this year."

Either keep them all and stop complaining about PPs, or scrap them all and no PPs.

The playing field for teams is incredibly unbalanced, which is why the AFL doesn't have a 'set' formula for draft assistance anymore.

Otherwise clubs will end up getting assistance such as Collingwood, who got a PP 2 years out from making B2B grand finals.

Stop your incessant and juvenile whining, you are embarrassing yourself and the other level-headed Eagles supporters also in this thread.

If you can't understand the premise that I, and many other posters have written about previously then we can't help you.

For the record, I have never ever been in favour of priority picks and never will. Scrap the whole thing and force clubs to run themselves better, not reward mediocrity.

Poster is correct- you are a hypocrite. You want f/s which gives advantage to basically Victorian teams, one of which is your team. That in itself is a "priority pick"

So you won't scrap a rule that directly benefits your team this year and disadvantages rebuilding clubs but are happy to take full advantage of it, despite being a team contending for a flag?

Going into this year, Ben Camporeale is expected to go late top 10 and Lucas also around the mark.

So I see you're entirely fine with a flag contender potentially getting priority access to 2x top 10 draft picks(provided they deliver this year) yet are adamantly against the worst side of the modern era getting a small handout, despite having their first pick of the second round pushed out to pick 30 in last year's draft?

Like I said - "Rules for thee but not for me."

And how was North's not self-inflicted?

Also, second round pick for the wooden spooners being 30 was AFL-inflicted.
