The WAFL reserves and Colts get very little. A top tier WAFL player may get between $1000 and $3000 per game. But this would be only for the very best players in each WAFL club. The fact that country clubs can entice WAFL players to leave their WAFL club and go to the country for $700 -$1000 per game shows just how little they are paid.

The WAFL SANFL and VFL players all extremely underpaid for the time and effort they are required to put in.
When East Perth came out of the alignment five years ago i heard that Rohan Kerr and Craig Wulff were being paid $800 a game. I suspect only a handful are getting that deal at the moment. It is why so many play country football where they can get more.

I don't think money is the issue at West Coast as i think they would have enough to get six decent Vfl/Sanfl/Afl delisted players to play next year. Wafl teams are recruiting from the Vfl/Afl and Sanfl as we speak.
The Eagles can recruit and employ players and also play Wafl yet we see them leaving.
Alec Waterman left to play for Claremont and Trey Ruscoe left to play for Souths and Sam Rotham didn't want to play and when given the ultimatum decided to leave West Perth to play ammos. It looks like he is back at West Perth so i assume he no longer works at the Eagles.T he Eagles have an advantage in that they have many sponsors who could employ any player they bring from over East. I can't understand why they can't do it.

That’s how the WAFL clubs bring players from over East. Give them very good jobs and ask them to play for an average salary at the footy club. It’s not difficult.

The standalone SANFL sides Adelaide (Blake Drury) and Port (Jez McLennan) have announced some ex-AFL listed recruits this week.

We remain the only side unable to get anyone to play for our seconds.

I’m hoping we’re pursuing someone like Tom Emmett (ex-Freo, originally from SA but could be convinced to stay here), Cooper Hamilton (ex-GWS, originally from Bendigo Pioneers so might be mates with some of our youngsters from there) or even Witherden to come on as a big-name signing. But I’m not holding my breath.

He is working at Fox Footy as an intern so doubt he would be coming here.

Any news on where Jai Culley has ended up? He has been popping up in photos with the boys, can't work out if he's hanging around to play Beagles footy. Thought he'd at least get a train on spot somewhere

Culley and Witherden might be options. Stayed in the west at this stage.

Witherden said he plans on playing somewhere didn’t really get questioned if it would be WAFL ect. Sounds keen to get into coaching so WAFL playing/assistant.

Surely we just fold.

Whole thing looks like a joke at the moment.

Looks like Tom Emmett signed back at Sturt in the SANFL.

The other disadvantage we have atm by not having any signed up is these players could’ve been competing with Burgiel and Brock for the SSP.

With only allowed 2 per list spot, it’s a great get around to have more train on for that list spot.

almost like players don't wanna stay at the club that delisted them
Also, in reality, unless a players is on our AFL list, the West Coast WAFL is just a team. There really isn't club culture like other WAFL clubs, and that players would want.

You would think if either are staying in Perth that the club would approach them to play for the Beagles and maybe a job with the club.

Definitely this

Witherden has aspirations to coach so get him on board as a playing assistant working primarily with the top up players

Culley seems like he’d be a good replacement in Ruscoe’s community development role

Both were popular within the playing group from what I could tell and are very much the type we need for the WAFL side

We can’t bitch and moan about concessions then not use the ones we have

Who’s to say we haven’t tried to entice them?

I think it would be a pretty hard gig trying to get delisted former players to play for the WAFL team.

Yeah mate your fired but here do you want a qtr of the money you were on to get belted by 100 points every week. I know what I would be saying😂

It wouldn't even be a quarter of the money. WAFL is basically guys playing for the love of the game and getting some pocket money as they do it.

Ruscoe’s official move to Souths is imminent. It appears Caleb Datson is the player we will get in exchange. Certainly not a fair trade in terms of quality, but it is pretty uncommon to get a player exchange in the WAFL and it is better than cash I guess.

Datson has played 50 odd league games for Souths, is 26-27 years of age, so brings some experience.

Was never going to be a fair trade but looking at his WAFL profile it seems like he’s mostly a ressie level player.

Last year on paper we won a few games but next year actually projecting to be as bad the previous two seasons.

At this stage, Datson would have the most (non-WCE) senior WAFL experience of our squad:

Datson 54 games (SF)
Edwards-Baldwin 46 games (Subi/EP)
Henderson 41 games (Per)
Levien 39 games (Per/SF)
Creasey 26 games (EF)
Sparks 22 games (EP)
O’Sullivan 21 games (SD)

(No idea which of those players will actually be returning, we didn’t see Levien or O’Sullivan at all this year for example)
