I left at 3/4 time and I hear he did well in the last quarter but he was fairly average before that.
Slow to move the ball, not great decision making with ball in hand, set his teammates up to get crunched a couple of times with poor disposal.
Just kind of jogged around off the ball.
Dunno, I just don't see anything that special with him, certainly not someone I'd take inside pick 10

Watched it on replay and seems down on confidence and not comfortable with the step up so far. Had a huge last quarter as others tired but rather than showing what would be hoped to high level footy IQ he made poor choices. His athletic profile and burst against players his own age in a weak draft year highlighted by a 1 very good game against Vic Metro will likely still see him top 10 but the Vic kids have really come a long way forward this year while he has stagnated or only shown slight improvement. Also seems to go to water when pressure is applied on his game. He's still a huge talent but there are some very worrying signs.

Mind you if he was playing WAFL colts he's probably averaging 30+ disposals, impressive burst clearances from the centre and long kicks into 50. Jumping up to League as a 17/18 year old is a big step from colts, however I thought his composure would have been significantly better as the year went on. His production has increased but not his composure and decision making.

I still think if we trade down GWS pick Cadman at 4 so I feel safe in whomever we draft really. I'd want to see an mri of Phillipou's back and a sports physio's opinion. But if all turns up good then if we're trading down I would be chasing him. If he was born 6 days later based on his midfield games this year he would be rated the 2023 number 1 draft pick. He doesn't turn 18 until after preseason training is supposed to begin which may or may not mean if we draft him he doesn't come across till after the christmas break.

If Jhye Clark is best on for Vic Country and Olli Hotton has a big game I think with a trade down we could potentially get both Phillipou and Mackenzie.

I think he’s doing well to have played the season at league level and been a solid contributor. My memory’s probably a bit hazy but I can’t remember many 17 year olds coming into WAFL league and dominating. Coniglio was a good contributor and kicked 3 goals in the GF. Cousins was a solid contributor at 16 IIRC. Any others that come to mind?

Coniglio kicked 4 in a grand final in 2010 as a 16 year old.
Mitch Duncan was more consistent and putting more goals on the board. WTF didn't we draft him.
Harley Bennell played 12 games in 2010, playing mainly HF and sometimes deeper and averaged over 16 possessions and kicked 13.11, astonishingly he was also going third up in the ruck at times dues to his athleticism.

Lets the check the start of next year shall we, not the left over games when we have no numbers
You're creating problems in your head.

Culley's been played as a full time onball ever since he's been in the seniors.

Hough's been playing wing FT and it's likely Chesser will play FT mid also, as that's where he trained and played in practice games, prior to being injured.

Redden's already stated he's happy to play WAFL, if need be.

You might be surprised next year.

Yeah yeah redden said he would be happy to play wafl. Lets see round one where he is if fit.. He already will be ahead of Chessor who Simpson admitted is unlikely to be fit for round one.

Do you really believe Hough would have played at all with everyone fit? On what track record has Simpson ever played our recent draftees ahead of the credit boys when everyone is there..

Wrong school?

Well after the pathetic (thats as generous as I can put it) effort they served up against Peel, all I can do is applaud his judgement.

Wait, Chesser unlikely to be fit for round one after missing all of 2022 (and 2021...)???

WTF

When did he say that? I heard he was back at full training by the end of the season

Source? Surely not…

Clarke was good, Winder played better when in the midfield, Hough and Basso didn’t play, and all you can do is applaud Simpson.
Jeez I love you Simmo supporters, never change.

Can you post the source to this please?

Thanks

Go to 5.10 and Gossage asks him about Chesser

If you want to completely twist what was said then maybe you could conjure up an admission that Chesser is unlikely to be fit for round 1

Reality is no such admission was made but the link is there for people to listen to and make up their own mind

He never said that.

Like I said, you're making problems in your head again.

To be honest thats how interpreted that (chesser pushing to be fit for round 1)

They better start making some big calls on the list. We need to trade out players for draft picks. Not sure who but what i have seen between the AFL & WAFL teams we will be on the bottom for 4-5 years if they don't start making some major changes in the list.
Come on eagles really surprise us during the trade period go for broke. Please make some serious calls on the list.
North melbourne's list looks better than ours at least they have some young guys with some talent.
Priority anyone below the age of 21 must be extended, anyone between 21 & 25 held onto anyone above 25 fair game to be traded.

We should just disband the WAFL team and divide the players amongst the other clubs again cos literally nothing is being gained by 70 point pumpings every week. It sets up a losing culture.

Agree completely

How anyone can think the current set up is any good for development is beyond me. Literally anything else would he better
