Opinions on whether Bowen could be an effective run with/tagger? Doesn't shirk a contest, but she is slight. Trying to think of ways to use her skills and limit her shortcomings.

Bowen in the U22 squad for 2022

If this is based on Bowen's 2022 season, she should do the honourable thing and not accept it based on tokenism.

So based on being under 22, we have had priority to players now for 3 years and yet Fremantle have 4 nominees and we have 1 (and I think undeserving).

Question to Trev - have you put the right resources and team in place for our team to succeed? I am sensing the List/Recruitment team feels like it is struggling like the Women's coaching team is struggling.

She gets pushed off the ball way too easily. She could run with but I doubt tag.

If you're finishing dead last, it doesn't bode well if you only have one under 22 player make that squad of 40.

Getting thrashed every week doesn’t help the young players put in the sort of performances that are going to catch the eyes of the people judging these things, I guess.

But having said that, I’m not sure who we could say has been overlooked. Maybe Thomas? Lewis had a poor season by her 2021 standards.

Noone overlooked, which I think is the problem. As a developing team we should be stacked full of the best U22 talent in the league. But we're not, and not because we haven't had access through the draft.

EFA
Lewis had a poor season by anyone's standard.

I thought Thomas was one of the very rare glimmers of hope this season.

Real tough baptism of fire for her and I thought that in the main she acquitted herself well and looked at home in the league.

Her footskills, ball use and decision making were all very good and at times her footskills were elite.

Just need another 10 of her quality, to make some inroads into the quality deficit on our list.

Oh and as far as Lewis goes she had a shocker of a season, which to a very large extent was due to extremely poor coaching by Prior.

She was played in a role most of the season that deprived her of the opportunity to showcase her best skills.
Prior curtailed her attacking run and carry by assigning her shut down run with roles most weeks.

When your natural instincts are to take the game on and showcase your creative flair and then you get assigned a bog boring shut down role …….. where is the fun in that.

Horses for courses Mr Prior, horses for courses.

He had a steeplechaser running around as a trotter in a harness all season.

Bowen in the U22 squad for 2022

Def not a tagger.
I reckon she'd be best outside stoppages to get 1st handball received when we win it. The trouble then is her disposal ... that needs a whole offseason of attention.

Not a fan of her off half back either. Prior maybe intended her as a rebound defended ... but hard to rebound when it keeps coming back.

I would expect a rebound defender to be running straight towards goal and kicking through the ball. Felt like most of Bowens disposal by foot was running a "J" then kicking around the body.

Her disposal by hand invites pressure as well, which is not ideal in the back half.

If she has goal kicking prowess I'd say maybe play as a lockdown pressure forward? Perhaps that's worth a go. She's not slow or afraid to tackle.

Bowen’s main problem is decision making. Her choices in games mean her disposal efficiency looks worse because she passes direct to the oppo for a turnover.

She also has no idea on hand balls when in traffic.

Given that, she would be a disaster on a hbf - it would result in the turnover closer to oppo goals.

It's the Bullas, Atkins, Caufield, Gilmore, Grace Kelly, Bresland types who need to follow Guard out the door.

Hell, i wouldn't be against adding Cameron to the list as well. Forever unfit and still riding the hype from her first season.

2/8 down.

Decision making is 90% of the players in this teams main deficiency.

On the plus side, she'll have a lot of vision of how some of the best players in the comp beat her. Hopefully it pays off in the future.

B&F is tomorrow night. Predictions?

1st: Swanson
2nd: Daylight
3rd: Gooch
4th: Hooker
5th: Thomas
6th: Smith
Rest of the top ten: McDonald, Laurie, Bowen, Schmidt, Lewis.

Best First Year: Thomas
Best Club Person: Guard
Leading goalscorer: Schmidt (fairly confident on this one)
