Totally a blow, considering the amount of sub standard players we SHOULD be getting off our list.

Losing Collier, who despite having a down year, is one of our top 8 players normally.

And for nothing? Is there a trade? Compensation? Or because it's a new team are they allowed to poach a few?
I suspect its for nothing. You need to get a certain number of players of your list prior to the draft, so I think she would just count as one of those. This may mean we end up keeping someone we should have got rid of. Gilmore, Collier, Gauci, Ward (presumably) will be gone. I think its a risk cutting more than 6 in an expansion year. Its unlikely we get interstate players to commit, and we may even lose some locals to interstate clubs.

So, that gives us 2 to cut, assuming no more bail.

I think Guard has to go. 30 years old, averaging less disposals than the 18 yo Rowley. After that, take your pick. Going to be a lot of lucky players on the list next year.

Guard’s already retired, as has Gilmore.

An indication of the scale of the problem we are facing. Gauci and Orme made WAFLW team of the week last week.

So, 3 definitely gone, and 2 probably gone. And we haven't cut anyone yet.

Over the last few weeks, WAFLW team of the week has included Gibson, Gauci, Orme, Bartlett etc. One of the most poised defenders is McGuire. Even a Kira Phillips that looks like she swallowed a cow still holds her own.

Apart from Roberts, there isnt all that much talent available that looks like it improves us much compared to what we already have.

Personally I thought the rating of 2/10 was generous.

Team collectively and many individual players regressed this season.

Yes I get that the Hub for an extended period of time was less than ideal.

Nevertheless the harsh reality is that our players looked two grades less fit than the top teams and one grade less fit than the also rans.

Team structures and game plan sucked, by comparison what Pratt had introduced the previous year gave some reason for hope.
Prior’s game plan absolutely stank.

I thought the rookies did quite well in their baptisms of fire.
The leadership group went ok but we’re to reliant on Swanson and Hooker to do the heavy lifting.

Our middle tier core group were IMO a serious concern as they not only didn’t improve, but many went backwards.

Hard to see much improvement with the Team next year with so many on the list who simply are not up to the standard required to play in the league.

So its going to be a long road to achieve any meaningful improvement.

Will be a real litmus test next year to see how we go against the expansion teams.

The WAFLW feeder league also needs work as the quality that’s emerging, is insufficient in numbers, to sustain two WA teams.

Oh and the recruiters need a good kick up the arse…….. as for Selwood seeing the state of our current playing list ….. it’s no wonder he walked ….. or did he ?

Caulfield joining Guard, Gilmore and Bresland in retirement.

With Collier departing and in all likelihood Ward and Gauci (Port) and possibly Bullas (Essendon), we won’t actually be able to delist any players. Mind you, I think the most likely candidates for delisting have probably already gone/will probably already go.

Agreed here

Shanae Davison probably the only other player whose spot is questionable, but I think they’ll persist with her (and would have even if they didn’t have more than half a dozen players leaving).

Imagine if we lost Ward and Gauci (Port), Collier (Sydney), Bullas (Essendon) and Bowen (Essendon or Hawthorn) all to expansion clubs, for no compensation.

We’d just about be starting our list build again. But with no concessions.
When we picked up players, the losing club got compensation.

What has been announced for compensation if your players join an expansion club?

Oh you’re right, they did. Hopefully we do too.

Although it’ll presumably take the form of additional draft picks, which won’t help much if the WA draft cohort isn’t very strong or deep.

Fremantle got no compensation for losing 8 players to expansion to West Coast. I actually think you should get compensation if you lose players but it didn’t happen before.
