Club big wigs seeing it as a win that other clubs actually want some of our women's players.
That's not fair.

I'm sure Nissy and the rest of them will be very disappointed that Bowen is leaving when they learn who she is.

100% we will lose her if we don’t show improvement.

Charlie being one of her best mates may help her stay….unless she also bolts.

I’m going to enjoy the 2 years we have her and hope things turn around

2 years? Do you think she’d sign a 2 year contract when she only has to sign for one?

Its 2 yrs. Coming from one of your rookies mouths direct.

Plus there's changes coming to their contracts once this CBA is sorted. Watch this space

I had a feeling Happy was gone once she started running around with the undefeated East Freo a few weeks back

Same as Maggie MacLachlan, who is running around for Subi - although nothing has come of that thus far

We were advised that AFLW players wouldn’t be coming back to state level with the short turnaround to new season so I’ve assumed from that they won’t be offered new contracts.

On Lauren Gauci, she didn’t offer much at AFLW level tbh - maybe she’ll fare better back home

Clubs can offer 2 years,
Players don’t have to take the 2 years.
From your previous posts, I’m presuming you mean that Franklin must have agreed to a 2 year deal.

I am sure this no longer the case as it was early in AFLW existence, but cannot state it is a matter of fact.

Lanky Franky has def signed a 2 yr deal - but we never spoke about if there was an option to go for 1.

Well looks I am wrong about rookies contract length - you are correct. Cheers

I correct my OP

I look forward to one season of Ella then.

Not sure i like the look in Ella's eyes when she says how much of a Cockburn fan she is.
100% we will lose her if we don’t show improvement.
There is no practical scenario that would allow her to leave West Coast for Fremantle though.

Dockers won't have fair trade value to offer, and she can't force a move via the draft because the Eagles will still have the first pick in this improvement-free hypothetical.

If you told me we just sacked 8 players and were picking up Roberts, plus 7 more from the state leagues, i'd be stoked.

It's the Bullas, Atkins, Caufield, Gilmore, Grace Kelly, Bresland types who need to follow Guard out the door.

Hell, i wouldn't be against adding Cameron to the list as well. Forever unfit and still riding the hype from her first season.

Bowen, Golden girl Laurie, Mcdonald on next years watch list if they aren't showing improvement. Among others.

2/8 down.

4/8 Down

With the potential for Bowen, Grace + Niamh not far behind.

Got the highest list turnover in the AFLW so far this offseason. Don't mind it personally, needed to shift some of the dead wood.

Even though i don't really care if she goes, it's a bit of a dog act if Bowen leaves, considering she was one of our initial signings and poster girls.

Must have a serious issue with the club, as she's pretty well guaranteed another 5+ years playing footy for our woman's side at least.

Only upside to Bowen defecting is that when we play the team that she joins, our players will now have a much greater chance on her kicking the ball straight to them, than they had when she was in an Eagle jumper.

Good luck to her new team, addressing her turn over merchant traits.

Hard to hit a target when you don't do all, or any, of the following:
  • Don't look where you are kicking the ball.
  • Don't lower your eyes and assess options ahead of you.
  • Don't straighten up before you kick and try to kick around corners.

Tenacity and effort personified, I loved that about her game ......... her finishing skills and decision making........ not so much.

If she could just improve her disposal and decision making she would be an A grader, whereas she is currently, a run all day dynamo thats a B- grader.

One thing I will give her is that she was one of the very few Eagles players that had the level of fitness to play at AFLW, in that regard she was at our Club's Leader of the Pack. :whitecheck: :star:

That being said IMO she has been coached badly this year, her skill set is best utilised, as an inside mid and she should start every bounce in the centre square, she is wasted as a flanker or on the wing as the first or second receiver at stoppages, as that good work getting her the ball on the outside is wasted when she turns the ball over.

She has been a very frustrating player to watch the last three seasons.

I wish her well in wherever she decides to go, maybe some better coaching can improve her game, as she has traits that could make her a really good player.

Wow

Crosstown nemesis West Coast was also understood to have had an interest in Houghton over recent weeks, though rival clubs believe Port Adelaide is now firmly in the box seat to secure her signature.
