Didn't see the U18 game, but the U16s result was unsurprising when you consider their backline was stripped out and given to the U18s in the vain hope of stopping Lauren Young. So not only were they without D'Addario for both games, in this one they lost Cowcher, Crane and Gerardi, who for me make up 4 of the best 7 WA girls in that age group.

Plus, probably we can say the one fault with the 2007-born class is that for all their talls, they don't have enough depth at midfield, because Russo's always head and shoulders their best and doesn't have enough help.

Alicia Blizard WA's clear best on ground for me, the only one with multiple moments of dominance where she took control and made things happen. She was also the only one to keep her head under pressure and hit targets despite the scoreboard. Also spent time in the midfield and looked good -- she can genuinely play anywhere, leap's big enough for an undersized ruck, easily fast enough for a wing, plays forward and back, and now midfield.

Even so, wow SA has some good kids. In ten years I reckon we'll look back and realise that AFLW standard was barely %50 what it would become.

Not all doom and gloom in the U18s. Dont know all that much about them, but for the talk here, I thought we might get a 100 point to nothing demolition.

Young is a very good player, but she got beaten in a few one on ones, and dint tear the game apart. Webb did well on her and had some good wins.

Goodey from SA is a class above everyone else, and probably accounted for the bulk of the difference in scoring herself. Always looked dangerous when around the ball, and she was around it a lot.

Fish looked classy, and got a pretty ferocious possibly borderline illegal hit from Goodey and just bounced back up.
SA just had more top end talent, but there was some good passages by WA.

AFLW now has the whole game available for those interested

Pretty clear I wasn’t confident in the 18s program and the only real vocal voice in here about WA getting thrashed. Doubted they would score.

They proved me wrong and I put my hand up. Well done to the girls, they scrapped it out.

Zippy Fish, just a star in the making. Commentary teams are gonna love her name.

Shout out to M Webb - she was close to an ACL Tear (partial tear) rnd 1 WAFLW, has rehabbed extremely well and by all reports played really well on the dangerous Young. Great kid, hope she gets a crack at the big time

Keen to watch the replay.

16 girls definitely got humbled - doesn’t help when you lose two talks and then a mid rotation early. So much to like about that crop.

Just quietly though I’m pretty stoked we’re getting our 4 guns back to our 8-0 U18 team 😁

Our 2005-born players were largely outclassed, the SA 2005s are ridiculous, not just Young and Goodey, but others too. And WA had a number of 2005s who just didn't belong at that level, and when those players are dropping chest marks and fluffing kicks, it drags the whole team down.

The 2006s are much, much better overall, and next year when the 2005s move on, and the WA 2006s are joined by the 2007s to make up most of the team, WA might even win.

The one 2005 who wasn't outclassed, and just gave her draft prospects a huge boost, is Ella Slocombe. Comfortably WA's best, I don't think I've ever seen a player just get faster like she has, she must have started training harder so she doesn't get as tired in games. But she's lightning now, and skillful, and could even get picked top 3. She was better than Srhoj in that game.

Good shout. She’s come from nowhere Ella. Really impressive run of form at the moment

She's always been good, in a 7 out of 10 sort of way. Now she's explosive. And if the difference is just that she's training harder, you have to wonder what a couple of AFLW pre-seasons would do for her. Could be a very serious player.

I'm also wondering how much of the difference between SA and WA is SANFLW vs WAFLW. SA's talent is better because their talent development is much better, so stands to reason that the SANFLW comp is much stronger than WAFLW, which is still expanding and uneven. So WA has junior players in a comp with much lower skill level than the SA girls get. That could be a part of the reason the SA girls look so much more polished under pressure, they're used to playing at a much higher level.

Number 2 for the U18s impressed me, but the squad list I saw didn't have a number 2, so not sure who she is?
Eva O’Donnell - she’s bloody good. Needs gym time but she’s a footballer through and through

She is quite unique, for someone so very skinny she manages to weave her way through heavy traffic effortlessly, has footy smarts and knows where the goals are in the contest.
One to watch going forward.

17 year old and 167 cm.

I can't wait for the next 5-8 years of AFLW transforming with all this talent coming through 😍

Strong representation in this

6 out of 23's pretty good. Carys D'Addario's at the level of those six too, unlucky to get injured. Wolmarans had her first good WAFLW seniors on the weekend, two goals 1, 5 marks, was involved in some other goals too. Now we just need Russo and Blizard to get senior games this year.

Coaching ranks boosted including the addition of a tackling coach from Western Force.

Excellent news. 👍

Just wondering if the Club could shell out a bit more coin and send the new tackling coach- Dylan Parsons over to spend a few secessions with the mens team.

We sure as God Made Little Green Apples 🍏 need the boys to learn how to lay a tackle and more importantly make it stick.

The men look like witches hats most weeks, of course young Ruben is the exception.

Could be some good mother-son / mother-daughter picks in the future

If memory serves Worthington did a try out for a Cat B slot with us?

Two more Zippy Fish moments, 1:10:40 for a crazy dash out of the backline, and 1:12:50, fast acceleration that leads to a shot on goal. She's great off half-back, but I'd really like to see her on the ball, Conti-style. Maybe that's the plan next year in WAFLW.

Dayna only played 22 games for Freo and to date has played 26 for us. We need to make sure we nurse her through another 2 seasons to get to at least 40 games.

Father/offspring selections take 100 games for the men (approximately 4 season times 22 games a season).

My logic is that mother/offspring selections should be at 40 games - the AFLW only play 10 games a year.

Krstel has done an awesome job doing the media rounds with the First Nations jumper design. She might not have had the biggest impact on field last season, but she's clearly a good head in a range of off-field roles. The club has done well to get her over from Melb in a broader sense I reckon.
