Western Australia 2022-23 contract list: Ashton Agar*, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Sam Fanning, Cameron Gannon, Cameron Green*, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis*, Bryce Jackson, Matthew Kelly, Mitch Marsh*, Shaun Marsh, David Moody, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, D’Arcy Short, Charlie Stobo, Marcus Stoinis*, Ashton Turner, Sam Whiteman, Teague Wyllie. Rookies: Cooper Connolly, Jayden Goodwin, Sam Greer, Hamish McKenzie.

Teague Wyllie with a Shield contract at 18 & 20 days, bypassing his rookie year. Can not find room for Mitch Marsh.
WA boasts, perhaps the strongest pace attack in the comp.

Probable Shield X1: Whiteman, Bancroft, S Marsh (c), Philippe, Cartwright, Hardie, Inglis, Richardson, Agar, Paris, Morris/Behrendorff/Kelly.

Mitch Marsh is captain of WA, absolutely no way he isn't in the first choice eleven.

First XI (with CA contracted): Whiteman, Bancroft, SE Marsh, MR Marsh*, Green, Hardie/Stoinis, Inglis+, Agar, Richardson, Paris, Kelly

That's a ridiculous batting order, everyone of those guys can bat, Paris has a first-class hundred and bats at 10 and Kelly at 11 is a fairly astute batter.

Doubt that WA sees much of Green, M Marsh or Stoinis throughout the season through various international duties. Not sure Stoinis would play red ball cricket as he hasn't played for some time but is apparently available for selection.

Mitch would play ahead of Hardie, Cartwright and Philippe.

Of the three Hardie averages the most.. in fact all three average more than Mitch Marsh.

Mitch Marsh will be away on national duty along with Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis so sticking with my X1. Naturally when he is skipper he has to play but in matches he does make I expect his brother to continue to hold the reins as he did last year.

Just noticed Cam Green is not in the squad for this Monday's Shield game.

What's the point in not releasing him from the T20's seeing as he's not in the squad.

Unless he's injured, I find it mind boggling.
Probably too tired to play....apparently been a tough last few weeks playing all this T20 stuff, according to Finch that is.

Couldn't really as for a better start across all fronts with huge chunks of the Best XI unavailable - Scorchers women looking close to unbeatable today.

Expect the Green call is the usual nonsensical player management from CA.

So what did Valetta do that required such an abrupt resignation?**

**Hopefully it isn't a terminal illness in himself or a loved one.

TBH it's giving off the distinct vibes of a few of the old boy insiders (whose sniping and backroom manoeuvring delivered little but a decade and a half of mediocrity) upset with the current administration and lashing out.

The breakthrough Shield win did away with whatever lingering thread of substance their arguments still had.

Any word if all the internationals will be available for selection for the next game against SA starting on Friday.

Seeing as we have been knocked out of the WT20 unless they have injuries they should all be available.

Fitting M.Marsh, Agar, Green, Stonis, Inglis & S.Marsh (If for from knee injury) back in the team gives us ridiculous fire power in both bowling & batting departments.

The good problem is fitting them all in. We have had a good start to the year in the shield so no one really deserves to be dropped. Reckon we will go with something like this.

Bancroft
Whiteman
M.Marsh
Green
Cartwright
Stonis/Hardie
Inglis
Agar/Hardie
Paris
Richardson
Morris

That’s just a ridiculous lineup. Bowling and batting depth are both deep. The fact it’s hard squeezing Hardie into the lineup just shows that. I also didn’t include S.Marsh as I would rather they got him fit & firing for the back half of the season.

Hardie is absolutely ahead of Stoinis, and so is Agar

I'd almost play Rocc ahead of Morris. Between Marsh, Green and Hardie you don't really need the third quick. If Paris or Richardson gets injured, Green is capable of bowling with the new ball.

Some of those internationals will probably be in the ODI squad for the one dayer's against the Poms starting on the 17th so won't be available.

Agree with Hardie over Stoinis. The other scenario would be Roccicoli over Agar. Agar is imo world class spin for 20/20/ODI but not necessarily our best shield spinner.

I haven’t seen enough of Rocc yet though

Rocc has been pretty good in his 2 matches at the WACA so far. Hasn’t leaked runs, given the quicks a rest & has managed to taken 6 wickets at around 17 a piece on pretty green wickets. Done his job nicely.

Didn’t even know about the ODI’s

You have to wonder why we are playing a ODI series so close to the test matches. Wouldn’t the players be better off getting a few games of shield cricket in so they are cherry ripe for the test series or can at least press for selection.

Interesting call. Morris has grabbed 15 wickets in the first 3 matches so far. Been very good.

Got to stop selecting Philippe in Shield matches.

Would like us to select Turner for the Shield too - don't think he's that bad at first-class level.

He’s at least playing the next game as WK as Inglis isn’t available. Think the game is at the SCG where he’s played a fair bit of cricket so hopefully that helps him.

Wonder who we will replace Hardie with?
