A little quiet on here at the moment.
Anyone heard were Cammarano is playing this season? I heard a whisper it could be at Casterton? Anything in this?
On yesterdays Hamilton's spec', it's a big YES !!!
Also heard a whisper that maybe all is not well over at tigerland - Portland.
A revered past player told someone that marcus england & co that got away w a lil bit of off feild stuff that was documented last season, can basically do what they want and the clubs president has'nt got the balls to do anything about it. Alot of the past players are worried about whats been happening off feild with the younger players of the club.

More names linked to Heywood are Mark Johnson & Courtney Johns !!!!

Yeah apparantly Hamilton told Marcus England they were not interested in him as they do not want thr trouble he brings with him to the club. He is definately a great player but the trouble he causes no family club would want to take him on.

Heywood look like great finals chance this year. They have been talking with a number of ex AFL players and looks like they may go into the season with 3 or 4 ex afl players in the team. Will be good to see Heywood more then competitive for once and the signing of new coach and experienced players will significantly benefit the local kids.

Having seen the troubles caused at West when they flew in 'gun' players from Adelaide, I think Heywood would be better served by 1 ex AFL player for 4 years rather than 4 for 1 year.
If they can keep all 4 for a couple or more seasons then it's a masterstroke by coach and committee.
If they don't however a one off shot at a flag with imported players, ex AFL or not, rarely helps a club long term.

Looks like Hamilton are close to appointing Wayne Fletcher as coach. Probably not a bad selection as he has plenty of coaching experience and it is near impossible to secure a playing coach at this late stage. Im glad gibbons is president now we might actually get to see some decent recruiting at Hamilton in next couple of years. The people involved in past couple of years recruiting are a joke. Colin Riddle coaching Hamilton was the worse decision the club has ever made. The club went backwards in 2009 because of the costly decision, and when he was appointed there were a number of quality players who they could have got to coach including internally.

Can't see the club moving forward with Gibbons at the helm, agree Riddle was a dreadful appointment but the fish rots from the head and Gibbons smells very fishy

I rate Gibbons he has put a lot in already and taking the role serious unlike the past 3 presidents who were only in it to big not them selves. One of which thinks he is the best recruited in football but hasnt really achieved anything. Done a bit of research and have discovered Wayne Fletcher is actually coaching Noosa in 2010 so cant be him as coach. Anyone heard anything about who Hamilton's coach could be. Also anyone heard of any new recruits at Imperials?

What is happening with the Mount clubs??
I hear East are losing a number of quality players and may drop back a bit. Not sure if they have picked anyone up??

I don't understand your thinking! Firstly don't make the mistake of comparing what one club did in their recruiting bid in the past as to what another club is doing today! And are you telling me you would knock back the other 3 ex AFL players? That is crazy! I believe if a club has the fantastic opportunity of recruiting several ex AFL players in one hit, then do it. Obviously economics plays a part, but if you have the opportunity, then it is the clubs committee's responsibility to find the money, without making the club broke of course. Also who knows how long any player stays at a club, whether he be an ex AFL player, or he is recruited from the Bendigo league? What the juniors can learn from the right elite players is bottomless! You also have the domino effect of other local players wanting to play there to play alongside such players. I think it's a great thing Heywood have done, it could set up the next sustained period for the football club. I'm sure every club would do the same if they had the ability to get hold of such personnel, within reason. If the 4 ex AFL players you are talking about are very happy during their 2010 season, why wouldn't they stay. I think the other thing to consider is, that clubs such as these that are so far from Melbourne don't regularly get such an opportuntiy, purely because of geographics. I would say grab the opportunity while it's there. Heywood's committee is to be commended for their foresight and courage to organise such a aggressive recruiting drive.

Hamilton are going to appoint former West Gambier Coach Grant Russell. At least with his appointment he is likely to recruit some quality players from Adelaide, better then the recruitment done during Colin Riddle's time as coach. Riddle actually lost highly valuable players from the club because no one but certain members of last years committee liked him at the club. Hopefully Russell can get the club back on track on the field and repair the major damage that Riddle and his recruiters caused to the club.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it pays off for Heywood. I'm just wary that clubs (more than one have attempted bringing in a heap of high priced 'guns' to salvage a declining club) in the past have mortgaged their future for one so called super year, and yes Heywood may be able to sustain it past this year. It's great to see the inclusion of 'gun' recruits and they can help generate renewed interest in joining a club, but will those new players stay on after the 'gun' that enticed the back leaves? Maybe they will, then again history usually says they wont. I think you hit the nail on the head about my concern when you said "without making the club broke" I'd add to that and without robbing the current list of their financial incentives or potential to earn more. Lets take Nicky Johnson (I know he's going but as an example) Nick has played all his life for the Heywood footy club (I assume?) and is on the standard player payment of $xx He has had a couple of super years and would be more than capable of earning a quid in the minors or over in Gambier. The club however spends all it's money on the 'guns' hence the next tier of 'good' footballers aren't able to be rewarded for their hard work. again this is hypothetical and Heywood may have the funds to do this as well as bring in some high priced guns.

I do however find it difficlt to beleive that the 'kids' will gain a whole lot of benefit from these players UNLESS they are also consistantly training with the club and not just flying in for games.
You seem to know a lot about Heywood, are the rumoured ex AFL players coming?, are they going to train throughout the year or just play games?

Lastly, would I do it, proabably not. I think 4 players on $5,000 a year that can train every night and play every game are better than 1 that cannot no matter how good that 1 is perceived to be.

on another note. How coincidental that we talk about West and the failure of flying in players and footyfan10 informs us the mastermind of the fly in is coaching Hamilton. It'll be busy in the skies above the WBFL this year.

what a great idea, NOT.
heywood have not won a game in two years so the clubs plans in the past surely was not working. getting any players of afl experience, (let alone 4 of them ) would be the best thing to happen to the club.
some people are dreaming if they think that clubs can just call up and get these kinds of players to play in our league. the fact of the matter is they dont.
they are only coming because of the sinclair appointment. very smart by the clubs board.

FOUR Ex AFl players are you serious? Is that good for the competition? Amazing work by Heywood but do we want it?

im not sure if your taking the piss, but a strong heywood and some acknowledgment of out competition is better than heywood going through this year without a win again. common sense really.

Everyone wants to see a competitive Heywood. I also largely agree with what "fromthefence" says not through common sense but from bitter experience however what happens internally at Heywood is Heywood's business. The point is do we want to see a side stacked with ex AFL players in our comp? Say they then went through and belted every team each week, lay down misere, is that any better than them getting smashed each week from the league's point of view? Stand-by for a player points system because that is what has happend in other leagues for this and other reasons that have been thrashed around in other forums.

There will be no points system!!!! as i said earlier, AFL players dont just lob up in our comp. They come because of a relationship with the coach. He brings them with him.

how can u say that there will be a points based system IF one team dominates the competition. south and portland have both had stints at the top of the tree for extended periods of time while thrashing opposition. i think high profile ex afl players can only be good for not only the clubs they play for but the wbfl also. big crowds, more high profile media coverage this list could go on.

Johny egan is from mildura small forward played in last two premierships in under 18's and 5 senior games last season can play in the centre as well can snap a goal from almost anywere.

Also too those older generation on here, his uncle is Phil Egan whom played over 100 games for Richmond 1982-91 and 1 game for Melbourne. Also his cousin was on Collingwoods list on a few seasons ago before getting the chop - Chris Egan.

Noticed Mal Michael's name not mentioned. I gather people are aware he is one of the ex AFL players coming to Heywood. Triple preimership player will be a huge drawcard to WBFL. Cant remember a bigger name coming to the WBFL for a long time. Should be very positive for Heywood and WBFL. Courney Johns the only other name I have heard thrown about. Any one heard any other names. I notice Mark Johnson's name has come up. Would be very handy. I sence a bit of an essendon connection. Beside coach is Lovett-Murray any influence. Heard Dylan Kent may be back at Casterton. With Cammarano would form a handy foward line. Portland have some handy players returning-Lancaster, Falcone, Holt, maybe James Imbi. Some Vic sides building up nicely.
