Lee Chiller, Les Taylor, Luke Bracken, Paul De Bruyn, Jason Clarke, Fabian Webb and Matt Burns. All walk up starts, and most important star preimership players. But let me say their fellow players that filled their spots were very impressive, and wont be going out to easy. Their is going to be some good headaches for the coaching panel
just wondering wrfl fan five of the seven players you mention are in there 30's. will the older players be able to keep up with the younger and quicker teams going around this year.my opinon is that they will do well on the smaller grounds but the test is going to be when they get on the biger grounds.

I'm not trying to be a smarta#*e Pat Bateman but there is plenty of players that get paid in the ammos. It's just not bandied around like other leauges because that's the way they want it. Don't take this the wrong way because I'm not takin the pi$$

You're right Gotheroos, player payment does go on in the ammos. As I mentioned, player payment in local footy will always go on - whether it's above or below the table. My point is that if you are going to pay make sure you're paying the right kind of person for your club.

Or make the break and don't pay anyone at all. Use all the money you would have paid players with and pour it back into the club to better facilities, promote juniors....whatever you think will make the club a more attractive package for players to come to.

Quality clubs attract quality players and quality blokes. Generally speaking, if a player burns a club for not coming up with the $$'s he's probably not worth having at the club anyway.

I'm surprised more clubs in the wrfl don't pay less and invest in the club more. It seems that in 1st div'n it is only ever a five horse race and in 2nd div'n probably less than that. That makes for a lot of blokes getting a lot of money at clubs that are never going to get near winning a flag or even play finals. That's dead money that the club's are getting nothing for.

Great post!:thumbsu: I agree 100%. If you are going to pay blokes good money you would hope that they would repay the club by sticking around for more than a couple of years.

Re: Western Region Football League team

well bronco my mate plays at port and loves it he told me that the older blokes who didnt play saturday are very much an important players in the quest for back to back as for being a bit slow i have been told that you move the ball on quickly so the pace shouldnt be a factor as the ball wont be stopping still as for the younger quicker teams i have herd that port are also a very physical team so if you boys smash a few of these younger fit bodies around teams wont be able to run games out properly and just 1 last thing the older experienced players are always needed for thier composure and decisision making

Re: Western Region Football League team

How do we think the new rules will influence the game?

My viewpoint is the rule of not being to hold up a person on the mark will really play into the hands of the fitter/ faster sides in the comp. Also the quick kickout does not give players much time to sit back and have a breather, again playing into the hands of sides that are fitter.

Or maybe they will not have too much effect on the game. Time will tell i guess.

Re: Western Region Football League team

st.albans u ought to watch out this week, we are hungry for success again as usual and i feel sorry for u guys to feel the full force of the boys this week! can i just say that anyone who plays us u must be worried playing us cos we r going to b dangerous this year! us and the colts are the teams that everyone loves to hate, but we luv that! i think it will b us versus the colts this year frighting for the flag with sunshine a close third! dont know much bout kane cooper, if he is any good or not, or for that fact even ure ruckmen b.julier, i no that mcanulty is a fair player but will they cover ure losses over the new year! i no john lindsay was a good player but he is a DOG and a COWARD!!! i dont no how our old mate beasley can play in the same team as him!!! he hated him wen he was with us!!! oh well thats enough for now good luck for the year everyone, and remember everyone, WE R GOIN TO B HARD TO BEAT THIS YEAR!!!

Re: Western Region Football League team

Well we can all huff and puff at this time of year about how we are going to go and why this team is better than that team, but really no one knows until a couple of rounds ahve been played.

Looking at hoppers draw it it quite favourable, they have st albans, yarraville, then seddon and will be in rampaging form as a result. It will be a good test for sunshine in round 4 when faced with hoppers because their tails will be up and they will be primed for probably their first legitamate test of the year.

The young guys coming up are putting alot of (good) pressure on the older list, but remember this park footy it does get to quick year by year so the older blokes dont find the game passing them by in a season its a bit longer process than that, also experince will asways be a winning factor when it comes to the business end of the season

TOC, I think it's time you let Kane Cooper show what his got, he can play the game when he's head's rite, he'd want to be good after you've pumped his tires up so much. I can assure you he wouldn't even hold a candle to Michael Frost. If Kane got half the pressure and half the amount of crap put on him, as Michael Frost does he couldn't handle it and would fly off the handle and inturn he wouldn't get a kick. What are your thoughts?.

Tend to agree with you Raza, we get the point TOC, you think he is a good player. I hope this Kane Cooper does not mind you pumping up his tyres like this. But thinking about it TOC may = Kane Cooper??

TOC isn't Kane Cooper, but is a very good friend.
I have seen Kane play and I know he will be a great player for the Colts. He will let his football do the talking.

Re: Western Region Football League team

herd colts were undisaplen again on the weekend with a player been sent off for the hole game I thourt the two sooks went to strathmoney.hate to say it but if the colts don't get rid of there undisaplen players well look at last year gf neary cost them the ultimate with a player geting sent off.and it does'nt matter how good you are you can't win with 17 verses 18.we all know that the colts are one of the best team in the wrfl but close to the worst disaplen teams.

anyone agrees?

well bronco who do you play for every time i read your threads its something negative about the colts.
Generally the discipline from most colts players are pretty good there are still afew that need to pull theur heads in and as the player that was sent off sat has been told no more chances or he will be definately be in the two's till he show's he can be a disciplined senior player and the same for the rest of the playing list the same will be said from the coaching staff and president on thurs.

hav'nt played for a couple of years rock07.but still a keen supporter of the wrfl.not being negative towards the colts but can only post threads about what I hear and what I think and at the moment colts are all the talk being the flag holders.and I do think that the colts will go back to back if they just play football

p.s here's somethink posative in my time no wrfl has improve more then the colts in the last five years for a team who was nearly relagated to win a flag with out a high budget takes a fair effort.good luck for the year

Re: Western Region Football League team

I agree, Hoppers are probably the team to beat, but we wont know until mid way through the year. Think Port Colts will also be very tough, have heard big things about Jullier and Neville, and with the young guys like brennan, massis, bonnett along with jacobs, clarke, twomey and winters they form a very good side. Sunshine will be the big improvers, good test this week against Spotty seeing as though they havent played anyone in there practice matches. Spotty are an unknown quantity but they should be very competitive with the likes of montebello, kelly, rippon and even keenan who are all top class footballers. Parkside will again be good, heard they have got back Cook who completes there team, big body in the middle along with Zavalas and Juegan, add to that Condos and they will be very strong. Albion have picked up a few, and should be in the mix with a fit Assard, Brown, James, Barker, some real standout players. St Albans would be expected to drop off but are a proud club and will never be easily beaten, Altona should be competitive but havent heard much about there recruiting. Think Yarraville will be decent, better then previous years, and expect Seddon to really really struggle. My tips for this weekend:
Sunshine v Spotty by 3 goals at home
Albion v Altona by 5 goals
Port v Parkside by a goal, both sides suited to small ground
St Albans v Hoppers by 10 goals, really smash them
Yarraville v Seddon by 12 goals, seddon are hopeless

Re: Western Region Football League team

Travvy43, I take it from past threads that you play for Sunshine. How are you guys looking for round One?, full list going in?. I heard on the grape vine that Spotty are strugling for a bit of form and are looking likely to be in the bottom half this year. Also hear that St Albans have given Pagen four matches to prove himself or his out the door and heard from a member at Hoppers that Hoppers beat E.F.L runners up (Donvale) last week with only 17 on the park in the last quarter.

Re: Western Region Football League team

hey raza i hope you have seen him play in the last few years where his discipline has picked up and yeah he might still throw a few but he knows when to switch on and off and as for not playing under pressure you have to be kidding yourself everyone in the dvfl knew what he was like and tried thier best to take his focus off the ball but didnt work as for micheal frost i know kane well anytime he hears of a good player he has risen to the challenge so it would be a good match up and kanes knows i come on here but he dont like it as i think i have let everyone know my opinion about him its now up to him to let his footy take over and do all the talking for me

Bingo Raza, Sunshine it is.

Our round one team will be interesting. I think it will be a tough night on the selection table this Thursday with plenty of blokes putting their hands up for selection. Some good players are going to miss out on playing at 2:00 pm.

Not sure if your assumption about spotty being a bottom half of the ladder team. From my knowledge, spotty are a proud club that just live and breath a winning culture. Will be a good test for us first up, but the boys are jumping out of their skin with anticipation for the match.
