Re: Western Region Football League team

Love your use of words shiney top the hair style hasn't changed from your albanvale day's,cannot disagree about your so called budget but in hind sight did you spend wisely and did those decisions prove undoing when spotty knocked you off..

Hang on the rock is waiting to get on to say how close you blokes are..

Thanks for the wrap...you obviously have'nt seen me for a while. the comb over has grown a treat...look at least ten years younger.

Hindsight is a wonderful tool and yes I'm sure we would all do "some" things differently if we had our time again.

In regards to player spending you are the pot calling the kettle black if you are comparing what and who colts spend their money , compared to that of your ilustres club.

Re: Western Region Football League team

Attention WRFL

Let's talk about something real... Albion recent re-structure

Initially began as an attempt to band-aid the amount of clearances (and new coach) of 2007. Current condition however is much better. Albion to be a genuine contender this year more so and I quote more so than last year!

With lads like broadbent leaving Albion has recruited very well. Struggling to find a gap. Centre line, right up there, forward line, right up there, back line 80% there.

C.Barker is the best shape of his career, pick ups from p/side, turner, kelm, etc the list goes on (obviously do not want to reveal too much).. Just a caution to all clubs (well mainly the big 3 as they are the only genuine competition).

Interested to hear from others on their thoughts of the cats.

Will not lose a game at home in 2008!!!

Good Luck to all and bring on round 1!!! :thumbsu:

The true measure is how do you measure up against the best in comp? Would this years side be better than Spottswood side that won the flag?

Its good to hear things are on the up, your last part of the year was terrific and it will be good for the comp if you have built on that form.

Is Assad staying?

Once again i cannot dispute your come back inregard's to who pay's who,yes we have fallen down in result's in final's and should have performed better seeing the amount we have had at our disposal according to what we hear on here, hopefully this year we are paying the amount to get the result we want and need as a club..

Winning flags isn't the only measure of a clubs success in my veiw.

For the sake of all clubs who intend on being around for a while yet, lets hope the people in charge of their respective club spend wisely.

Our comp can ill afford a bigger gap between the haves and have nots.

Am I dreaming, if I suggest we get the best bloke available for your club as opposed to the one you can afford?

Re: Western Region Football League team

C.barker is a good player but let's remember he has not played for a while and i don't think he will be the match winner albion needs,jd is by far the best pick up imo, also has fenton been sacked or not?????

Reply to several posts,

re: Fenton = Don't want to reveal too much on that one, best you wait and see...

Dorwood was a very good pick up and has already made an impact on the track with his leadership attributes...

It's good to see other clubs aren't neglecting the thought that Albion may be a genuine contender.

re: Spotty GF team = Spotty was a very very good side last year, not sure if I can predict we will be that good. It will be interesting though.

But one thing you are right about (not sure who wrote it, maybe Obe) is that we need to match up against one of the top 3 sides to see where we are at. Definitely looking forward to it!

Re: Western Region Football League team

heard a rumour yesterday west footscray coach geddes quit on tuesday then all of a sudden 30 blokes came training. maybe gemini can fill us in on why he quit if its true apart from the obvious running when the going gets tough and that no one wanted to play under him.

Re: Western Region Football League team

crackers u were seen taking a short cut on saturday when you guys were running near the junior cricket game....you have to back up what you did last season your sides hopes rest with YOU!!!!!!

I think you need to get tha facts beofre you pot a bloke for pulling the pin. The facts are that Geddes did resign on Tuesday from a club that will prob fold half through the season because of issues outside of football. Geddes had his 4th child only weeks ago and found he did not have the fire in the belly to continue on a full time basis. If 30 blokes turned up to training so be it but I find it hard to believe it would be because of Geddes departure. Shane Geddes has done alot in football and has never quit on any thing or any one until now and can you blame him when you have all of these guns that have been signed including the so called President son to the club only to see him sign with Spotty !!! Please Long and Direct !!!.

You can not pot a guy for wanting to spend time with his family!!! And if bloke were staying away because of Geddes that speaks volumes for the rabble that West are because Geddes has only brought success to where ever he has been !!! Look up the facts and it will show when Geddes leaves a club so do some gun players although this wont be the fact at West because they had none to start with !!!

he knew he was having a baby when he won the flag last year, when he applied for the job, when he was appointed and for the first month and a half of the season. if mcghie did sign plus others and the stampede out the door didn't happen i could have an educated guess and say the fire in the belly might have been there. weak as piss written all over it, out the door because things don't look good simple as that. and i believe he didn't leave his last club on good terms so don't quote history unless it can back you up.

How unusual for a Sunshine Heights person to take a cheap shot.

You do not know what I gave up to take the West job, so how can you question my commitment.

I’m not going to go into an essay on my decision as I know some will want to pick bones out of whatever I say. In short, my wife had another child 3 weeks ago and he has been giving us some issues. If anyone has ever coached before, you know it’s not a 6-8 pm job 2 or 3 nights a week. I couldn’t justify the commitment I was putting in when it was not being returned by the players. Anyone who knows my past will know I will always put family first.

Rest assured the decision to resign was not made lightly or hastily. Smithy and I had been in daily contact throughout the pre-season and he supports my decision. The West Footscray committee are also fully supportive of my decision.

PS - if I left my last club on such bad terms, why did they ask me to come back and coach 12 months later?

The only thing and person in this whole thing that is piss weak is your self buddy !!!. Dont know where you are getting your facts from but Geddes has always left previous clubs as he has with West on good terms. Dont sit on the other side of the fence and take shots when you dont know what happened!!!!.

West dont seem to have a problem with his decision because he was honest and straight down the line!!! I would suguest that pull your head in long and direct before some one knocks it off !!!

Re: Western Region Football League team

After listening to several Albion players at the weekend they are certs to win the flag. In fact they will win 1's, 2's and 18's. Pity footy isn't played on a summer day with cans. Nobody in the comp is as good as Albion just ask them. You wouldn't think they have made 1 finals series in the last 20 years. Superstars!!!!! Ha ha

don't get violent or the only thing tragic about you will not only be your name but your health. just give your boyfriend/gemini a big hug and kiss when you get home and you will feel better.

i would magine west wouldn't be too happy having to find another coach in march so don't talk shit that they wouldn't have a problem.

DOES THIS MEAN PAUL SMITH WILL COACH WEST FOOTSCRAY SENIORS ON HIS OWN IN 2008 IF THEY GET A SIDE UP???

Re: Western Region Football League team

Your grape vine is polluted with figs or is it ****??. Your reference to Saul is also very vague and misinformed. For the record we were at budget and cound not afford Sam even if we wanted him. When you live in Doreen as Saul does, Greenvale is somewhat closer than Port Melbourne. Add the Westgate traffic congestion at training times and that adds a significant amount of time on the road. Pot away and take cheap shots all you like but please be a little more accurate for the sake of thread please.

You honestley dont beleive saul left colts because of traffic conditions on the west gate bridge do you ?
Isnt doreen on this side of the westgate wouldnt that mean he would be going to training on the side were there is no traffic ?
Maybe you should be a little more accurate !!!

I dont think there is much point discussing this issue any more, both parties are comfortable with the decisions made. If you have anything other to add apart from conjecture...please do.

For the record, the trip can take me 45 minutes on a bad day, 20 of which is spent in traffic under the bridge. Doreen is a little further out than North Melb and Keilor so lam guessing it would tale a little longer but as I said if you think you know more please post it.

Re: Western Region Football League team

Is it true that Altona are hosting Albion this Saturday in a practice match?
How are other clubs going with obtaining grounds for practice matches,Altona doesn't seem to have had a problem if true.
