yeah one against three does seem a little harsh

I think you took it the wrong way after they had the beer with rock all the other boys came in and then one of them threw the punch not rock.
No wonder it feels so good to beat colts when you have clowns like this person playing for them

Well it was really tough of one colts player in particular who threw a punch as one of the boys tried to shake hands as they where leaving after having a beer with rock.
should never have been there, fancy rocking up to the colts haunt with your premiership medal, whether their intent was good or not it's ridiculous, grow a brain.

one of the boys lives in port melb, even though it was prob not the smartest thing you should be able to drink and celabrate without having to worry about w***ers

True. But the Clare is the Colts major sponsor isnt it? There is a pub on every corner in port, not to mention one about 20 paces away.

There sure is, you can imagine the uproar if the colts had won and Rock and a couple of others went across to spotty's wake. The knockers would be calling them nothing other than smart arses, I'm sure in this case there was no malice in Kellys intention but the timing and location of the "drink" is a little off to say the least.

Pete wake up to your self it feels good to beat us because we are a good team. All clubs have people that do silly things when under the influence, as for the incident,it was very dissapointing from my point of view the spotty boys were there in good faith having a beer with me, then after a few colts boys walked in, a former colts reserve player took it the wrong way and threw a punch, silly but he had not slept for two days, no excuse but not up to making a proper decision, julier myself went out to see if all was ok but they had left.
Again i was not involved but have already heard alot of versions of this minor incident also.

I second that Obe 1. Top stuff Rock, many others would have stayed away and hid. Just for the record, I spoke to a couple of Colts players after the siren, the usual stuff, neither refused to shake hands even though they were gutted and knew that I was supporting Spotty. Quality blokes.

Congrats Colts and Spotty on a great season. Both clubs are streets ahead of the others which will make an interesting 09 season. Albion and St Albans will be hungry to close the gap.

If the rumours regarding Eames at Altona are true I am sure he is not going unless he has ambitious plans. Clearances early next year will be interesting.

Aaron Freeland was in deep discussion tonight with an interested suitor over coffee in Creme Cafe in Pier St, Altona. Looked like footy talk, with the other party doing most of the talking.

Could be looking for greener pastures?

One more rumour...might be laughed at here but keep hearing that Crackers Keenan will be heading back to the Western Mapgies next year or in 2010. Home club with still a lot of friends there.

Was speaking to a major sponsor from Hoppers the other day, Carsons boys dont look like heading back there now, was told one of the brothers doesnt want to go back there so that means by all reports that neither will go. Heard that they spoke or trying to speak to Pods from Werribee would want fair be of coin wouldnt he to leave there

aaron freeland won't find a greener paddock than grant res. 'freeze won't be going anywhere, and will be working with anthony eames to take the club forward.

Maybe he was having coffee with Eames. Not sure what Eames looks like but I found this picture on Google. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Granted (reserve), this guy does look a bit different.

Been recruiting Red Devil? Would be a big get.

yeah, that sounds so funny get filo the master poster to spell check it for him. On a funnier note it would have been a hoot and almost a guaranteed winner on funniest home videos if you had been present at the colts wake on sunday evening. The story goes that the herb medalist and his two offsiders in o'keefe and harris thought it would be a good idea to call into the Clare Castle hotel and say hi to the colts boys. Obviously wearing their premiership medals as a show of respect. Needless to say that after a few hello's the trio were last seen running for their lives down graham street with one a little worse for wear.
if i was the size of okeefe id be running to the bloke can play footy but cant see him beating my grandma in a fight

Lets just say that it wasn't a former reserves player and was a senior player that played in GF on the weekend that threw the punch. Maybe not the smartest decision to go along but was certainly not meant in malice or deserving of being chinned.

Well there have been more posts on here in the last 3 days than there had been the previous 3 weeks.
What a great display of guts by the woodsman was just as excited and pumped watching from the sidelines as i was playing last year.
I think the league need to have a hard look at themselves. The last time these 2 teams played there was problems after the game. There have been numerous incidents this year of violence and what has the league done about it? It is time the league steps up to the plate and gets serious on all manners other leagues are watching and laughing at the state of the WRFL. As the top teams pull further away from the weak, soon it will be a 3 team comp. A greater police present is required and the 65kg 5'5 blokes doing security are get to rest a beer on.

All spectators of the WRFL need to take note, if your not there to enjoy the footy stay home. Some of the things that have been said to players including myself over the years is disgracful, supporters often cross the line so i can understand how things get out of control. Again the WRFL have allowed this environment to blossom. Its time to step up to the plate and be accounted for!!!!!

STATEMENT BY THE WESTERN REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Western Region Football League (WRFL) was appalled by the incident that occurred amongst spectators at the conclusion of the Division One Grand Final on 6 September 2008. Until this point, a magnificent finals series of Community Football had been enjoyed by the WRFL Clubs, their supporters and the Community across the Western Region over the past 8 weeks.
Violence of any kind on or off the field is not acceptable. The WRFL will not tolerate the safety of players, officials and the general public being put at risk by persons who chose to act in an unlawful manner at its events. There is also an expectation that members of the public who attend these events will comply with the terms and conditions of entry and conduct themselves according to law.
A significant amount of planning, preparation and risk management is put into every game by the WRFL and its Clubs on a voluntary basis. This hard work and dedication can be completely undermined by the actions of a small minority.
In response to this incident, the WRFL has immediately commenced an investigation which will thoroughly review the actions of those involved. The WRFL will co-operate fully with any directions or requests made by Victoria Police. Any person who is believed to have acted in contravention of the WRFL Competition Rules & Regulations will be dealt with under these provisions.
The incident which occurred is not just a football issue, but is reflective of the type of antisocial behaviour that has become common in public places, at community events, on our roads and appears on the news everyday.
In response, the WRFL will be taking strong and affirmative action. The WRFL will be meeting with its Clubs and relevant stakeholders to implement plans to deal with and eradicate all antisocial behaviour at its events. In addition, a campaign to enforce the spectator, player and official code of conduct will be again rolled out and the penalties imposed for any breaches will be severe.
The WRFL is a not-for-profit Community based organisation which has a proudly served the Western Region of Melbourne for over 77 years. Due to the incident of 6 September 2008 currently being the subject of investigation and potential judicial consideration, the WRFL is precluded from making any further comment.

Thanks tats for rolling out the Company Line which can also be found on the WRFL Website.

"In response to this incident, the WRFL has immediately commenced an investigation which will thoroughly review the actions of those involved." "penalties imposed for any breaches will be severe."

Would that be the same type of investigation that was carried out when the Spotswood President was assaulted at Glenorden on the 28th June and is yet to be completed 3 months later ??

Maybe Father Christmas can deliver a finding on 25th December (witholding the year for obvious reasons) if he is not too busy !!

Thanks for highlighting a line that can also be seen in tats post.

The league is a joke in every sense and everyone knows that.

5 umpires reported Rock07? I was out on the ground but there was so much happening it was hard to keep up. I was trying to watch the celebrations but kept getting drawn away to look at fights.

What I know......

There was a dust up between rival supporter groups behind the Spotty bench. When I got over there there was a couple of Spotty supporters covered in blood. I saw one bald (small pony tail at the back), short Port Colts supporter in his 40's or 50's threatening a young Spotty supporter.

This was the same young Spotty supporter who was covered in blood about 5 mins later. He must have wandered over to the Port Colts huddle/supporters and given a bit of lip.
Don't think much happened after that.

yes a very little man with a big chip on his shoulder when it comes to spotty does suffer from small man syndrome
