Re: Western Region Football League Team (Part 3)

There is "NOTHING" bigger and more important than the bounce on Saturday. The umpires need to resolve this without bringing the game into disrepute, otherwise this falls into the category of conduct unbecoming. Here is an excert from the AFL code of conduct which includes umpires.
Responsible, ethical and lawful conduct is in the best interests of the AFL's key stakeholders - supporters, members, media and corporate partners and various levels of government as such conduct repays the trust, support and investment those stakeholders provide to clubs, players and the AFL.

As such, all persons involved in the AFL competition can be expected to be held to a higher standard of behaviour.

The upside is all junior football should be able to commence using their own club umpires as per normal, right up to under 18's. As for the seniors and reserves all clubs should find alternative umpires from other leagues if necessary because the show must go on!!

Based on the above the pig headed and arrogant attitude of the league executive should see them all charged with bringing the league into disrepute. But I am sure only AFL Victoria could lay such a charge. This is a disgrace and embaressment to all clubs. How the hell are we supposed to attract top league players when they constantly hear and read negatives about this league. Bye Bye Battie I say, and Newton to follow.

Port Colts are a working class club with a strong union links, we support the umps with their action.
Unless league umpires are provided we will not play.
I hope all clubs support the umpires on this issue, it will benifit the league long term, maybe even short term.
Hopefully common sense prevails

Agreed, all clubs must back the umpires 100%, as without them there is no game. The league is a laughing stock at the moment and as they say a fish rots from the head. Bye Bye Battie.

Its about time the WRFL realised that the clubs own local footy. It's damn important that all clubs forfeit in support of the umps. If we play with club umpires on the weekend then it will be just as good as a backdown and the WRFL admin are free to do as they please, again! Tools down boys, it's raining stupidity at WRFL Headquarters.

Assuming the round doesnt go ahead...........
Does that mean a 17 game season?
An extended season?
And Albion lose a home game to Spotty?

what if one team says they're not playing but their opponent says they will play with club umpires?
does the team wanting to play get points by forfeit?
could be interesting,
would hate to be a club umpire doing a few of the games

Hopefully club's have or will be in contact to-day with each other and form an agreement that playing with club umpires is not on,it's bad enough in the two's,would hate to see the crowd and player behaviour if some cheat is doing the one's.

Thought our league was trying to improve our image, not promote games getting out of hand, which will happen at some matches.

again! Tools down boys, it's raining stupidity at WRFL Headquarters
The WRFL is already a laughing stock when it comes to its standing and reputation in Victorian football. It's been "raining stupidity" for years to the point the place is well and truly flooded with stupidity by now.

The thought of any league, whether they be professional or unprofessional (you decide which category the WRFL fits into), using club umpires in their senior competitions is an absolute joke. To even see that the league made that suggestion yesterday makes me question how clubs could have any confidence whatsoever in the league.

Perhaps Dave Newton, John Batty and some of the WRFL executive could don the white uniform and umpire the games tomorrow. :D

Assuming it lasts one week, probably play Queen's Birthday weekend?

Theres always a positive out of every negative and if we didnt play, it means we get to get on the cans early :thumbsu:

An announcement will be made to clubs at 1pm ish!

Once again, we will be given plenty of time to prepare. (not)

We have been told we are definitely playing as we have a contingency plan, whatever that means.

Can teams in 1st div play if they get their own umpires even if other teams cant get them, or are all games cancelled? Not sure how well that would go as others have pointed out on here. All games should be made up if they are lost as it would make a huge difference in ladder positions given the gap between top and bottom sides if a game(s) was lost. A lost game and % can be the difference between making finals or finishing top 3 and not, and vice versa for a team just out of the finals.

It is with extreme regret and disappointment that we inform you that as a result of the actions taken by the WRFL UA, the following consequences have eventuated.

  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1">All matches this Saturday 23rd May (Round 7) have been postponed until further notice. This includes all Under 18, Division 1 & Division 2 Senior/Reserve matches.
  • All junior matches scheduled for Sunday 24th May (Round 7) will go ahead as fixtured using club umpires.
All clubs are requested to put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure that club umpires are available for these games.

Please be assured that the WRFL will continue to work through the issues and would hope that a resolution can be found in the near future.

Arrangements are being made through AFL Victoria to assist and to mediate a positive outcome.

There are a few issues here.. not sure where to start.

1- If the games are to be made up at a later date what do people think about Queens B'day? I know that Heights have a number of players with trips booked that weekend and if the game was to be moved to then we WOULD NOT PLAY.

2- This week has been called off but is there any guarantee that the issue will be resolved before next weekend?

Good afternoon all;

Following on from an email sent to all clubs at 1.00pm today, recent developments have occurred which will enable all matches to go ahead as fixtured with WRFL Appointed Umpires.

The WRFL appreciates the understanding from all clubs during this matter and is very pleased that football will be played in the WRFL this weekend

Kind regards,

Personally i think there is a simple answer

We definately should still have the Queens birthday weekend break, we just play the season a week longer than scheduled. Don't forget the wrfl season commenced earlier than most other competitions the grand final would still be played mid september, not a big deal in my opinion what do others think about this?

Also i think it is very important we back up our umpires, the wrfl needs to get behind the umps and support them. There wouldn't be a player or club that hasn't had a run-in with an umpire at some point in time but i think everyone knows how important they are to the game we enjoy playing. It would be slap in the face if we didn't back them up and a lot of them would probably consider moving to another league

I agree FT, this is a complete an utter balls up!. How can you send an email out so late in the process only to call it back 1.5hrs later.

Players were notified that the game was off and now we are making calls again to fix up the incompetance of the league.:mad:

Please help us.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are happy to be playing, but have they heard of exhausting all avenues first?? Jumped the gun with this one.

I agree about the extra game Bretto. It may have something to do with grounds being available, I dont know. Seems pretty straight forward to me too. Would having a week off fix anything though?

You can understand why the WRFL has the reputation it has...

The WRFL seemed to be taking steps forward but in my opinion have really taken two steps back... Just all round dissappointed.

i just heard on sen the games will go ahead with umpires but the dispute goes on

lets get back to footy the wrfl is gone

my tips for this week

ALBION v spotty in what should be a good game im just leaning towards the cats because of the home ground advantage spotty have been up a while and loss might do more good than harm the cats by 3pts

glenorden v HOPPERS hoppers should build on there % hoppers by 77 pts

heights v SUNSHINE YC the yellow bellies should win but i hope sunny heights punch suit cases out of them YC by 34 pts

st albans v COLTS the goat hearders are struggling big time the colts should cruise the colts by 52 pts

west footscray v ALTONA this could be a real danger game for altona its a game everyone expects them to win but footy's a funny game if they dont come to play it could be the one that got away altona by 20 pts

AGREE with all your tips gangster, although i'm very surprised you have picked the colts, after you predicted we would slide down the ladder and be lucky to make the finals.....

Well what a complete debacle tghis umpire situation has been, thankfully we have games this week.
I think it was great how all clubs got behind the umps on this issue and we will all continue to support them to get what they want.

I believe if the umps are not happy with Gunn and also clubs are not happy with him why do the wrfl and afl continue to support him???
He must have some photo's of adrian anderson and demitrou in a compromising position...lol
