Review What do you mean we f**king won at Geelong?

Given how pedestrian and workman like our small forward line is, I wonder if there’s any chance of the captain spending more time up forward. Or alternatively the wing.
2 of butters Rozee and Horne Francis should be mid at any given time with the other playing forward and rotate them through. All would be so dangerous down there.

Love seeing people justify the last half collapse

"Oh, they were always going to come back"

We were ****ing 50 points up. That's not just letting them work back into the game and stop the rot, that is completely collapsing particularly 59 to 24 in the last half.

Let's praise what we saw in the first half because it was quite simply some the the best footy we've played in many years given all of the factors involved. However let's not gloss over that last half as acceptable because "they were always going to come back".

We need to be better than that. Yes we can lose a half, away, to a good team, but when you're absolutely flying, it is time we stopped rolling over, letting these sides get a run on, going into shitting our dacks mode. We win that game by 30 points and we're all stoked. That's the sorta 'they lifted' levels we can accept because it shows we didn't capitulate, but nearly dropping a 50 point lead is seriously unacceptable.

LOL gotta love the caller who rang 5AA after the game to complain about the umpiring, which was so biased in Port's favour. How often have we been screwed by the umpires at the Cattery - nice to get one back for once.

I was watching at the pub so didn't have the pleasure of the commentary team, but it felt like every 50/50 contest was a geelong free. Especially in that second half

actually didn’t mind Sinn’s game. But not sure if you can carry all of Burgoyne, Sinn and Boak as your wings.

Bergman at half back was much better than Bergman on the wing. Farrell finally did something this year as well. If Sinn plays next week and Jones is still injury, not sure how Jones gets back into the team.

Mead playing 4 quarters and getting into the centre was great. Underrated.

Also, it is a toss of a coin who is the second ruck between Visentini and Sweet. In saying that, Geelong aren’t exactly known for their rucks.
The kid got it all . Sweet is not even 50% of Visentini. Not to mention his upside from here......

Not defending the decline by any means as I could barely stomach the 2nd half. But realistically if you're looking at the full picture, We only lost the last quarter by 2 goals and we weren't even that terrible in the 3rd quarter until about the last 5 minutes as well as the Rioli panic causing a complete tonal shift in the game. We'd still be 5-7 goal winners imo if it wasn't for such a brief patch of bed sh!tting, but with that said I wouldn't go as far as to put every minute of the 2nd half under that umbrella.

A game of two halves but we probably were the better team on the night and deserved the win.

Midfield was dynamite. Wines, Horne-Francis, Butters all superb. Drew and Mead useful. Mead is quickly going from fringe player to a best 23 lock.

Rioli was in everything up forward. Could've kicked 6 really. The free kick and 50 fiasco was poor but it shouldn't cloud the fact that the rest of his game was brilliant.

Amazing that the Geelong fans were carrying on about the umpiring all night and then you look at the free kick count at the end of the game and they actually won it. Must be nice to be so used to getting an absolute ride each and every home game that a balanced umpiring display seems rigged.

There was an instance where there was a Geelong kick heading towards goal, loudly called "touched, play on" by the field ump. Port player lets it roll through the goals.

How is it possible for the goal umpire to call for a score review in this situation?? Is our defender (Burton?) not entitled to play the field umpire's call and let that run through as a behind?

Na, we were barely holding on in the last half. On the back foot for the majority of it. Think they had over 20 inside 50s in the third. Nearly doubled us in contested possession, etc. They stifled us out of clearance and stopped our ball movement. It was an extremely poor last half by any measure. If the first half didn't happen and you saw a 59 to 24 scoreline, after a half, you'd be pissed.

This is part of the Hinkley like analysis at times, where what happened on the field is glossed over by the result. We won so people look more favourably on the failings. Reality is though that a good team and a ruthless club looks to be better in every moment for 120 minutes, and doesn't accept those sort of collapses, just because we won. Hinkley though will only focus on the positive, because he is mired in mediocrity and doesn't have that ruthless drive to hunt for being easily the best, he's just happy with good enough.

There needs to be more made of this.

Well colour me surprised. What a perfect game to show our best traits and our worst. I wish I could just perky enjoy the win rather than looking at the negatives, including why we can't show up every week like we did here. But a win in Geelong is nothing worth getting upset about.

What is our best mid structure? How do we balance all the assets we have?

Yep 100% was really nervous in that moment that the umpire was going to make a huge howler.

Commentators don’t even know that it can’t be paid advantage when it’s paid by the out of zone umpire. The umpire that was 5m away called play on and the dickhead 30m away called it holding the ball. It literally can not be paid advantage.
Also the umpire near the incident had blown time on. Can't play advantage after that.

A bunch of inbred tardies moaning at every call is not biased. 85% of those calls were 100% there

Amazing. Have been at a family event tonight and only saw the score and the “progression” just now. Turning the corner on a few things, or shades of that infamous 2015 first quarter shellacking of eventual premier Hawthorn, who almost caught us at the end?
