The longer the offer is on the table it seems to me the less likely we will see Denis as our coach next year. Lets face it - nothing would give our boys a bigger tonic than for Denis to sign on the dotted line B4 our finals campaign begins. The fact that he has'nt is a worry.

I know it is difficult but I would be interested to hear who people think would be the right person to coach us if Denis pulls the pin.

Paul Hamilton. No second thoughts IMO.

1) - He knows the young guys back to front, and as coached every bloke uder 21 many times, and I get the feeling they enjoy playing under him.

2) - Cheap as chips.

3) - More importantly, he has the results on the board. Our seconds have are not-alligned with anyone. We have no ex-VFL players to bolster our team. He guided a group of kids, playing against men, to a prelim final in which they lost to the premiers, and could do the same this year.

He just seems right for the job to me.

Agreed.
Hammo would be my pick too.
His effort last year in nearly getting the Muzzas into the VFL grannie was exceptional. Hell, we would've won that prelim if they hadn't robbed Junior of those torpedoe goals :(

He had some success in SA and Tassie too.

He comes accross as someone intelligent and has a good media presence (both of these aren't critical attributes, but more of a bonus)

If the unthinkable happened and Pagan left us, then l think there is a case to be made for one of our past legends returning and coaching the club in its time of need. If you havent worked out who l am talking about, its Malcom Blight, l know he has stated he doesnt want to coach, but they all say that, if they said anthing different the media wouldnt leave him alone.

But it does make some sense, l believe there is some unfinished business for him at North, he was ahead of his time when he coached North as his first coaching gig. It would be a tonic for our memberships, sponsorship, marketing and possibly the players.

So he would be my pick if Pagan was to leave us.

I'm not sure whether we'd have the dosh to get him.

Absolutely certain we would not have the dosh to get him.

The Saints had to throw a million at him, and even then he couldn't give a stuff.

Blighty is no need for money, if someone offers you $1mil then of course you gunna say yes, and thats what Blighty did. North would approach him as a club legend in its hour of need, completely different scenerio in my opinion.

l am sure the club can afford to pay him $300-$350k and the class act that Blighty is, l reckon what l am suggesting is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Food for thought in any case. Blighty will coach again, so why not come back home.

Blighty is a legend without doubt.

However, I wouldn't be too happy about him coaching Nth. He appears to be non interested in coaching and (from what I am told by players he has coached) can be quite obtuse.

Look at Adelaide, he did well with them for 2 years and then lost interest. We couldn't afford to let that happen at Nth.

We need a stable coach and if Denis shoulod leave I think that Hammo would do the job. Stan Alves is also a better option.

Just my thoughts and opinions - I could be wrong.

I doubt if Blight would ever coach AFL again.
It's a gut wrenching job and that's why Parkin got out. Parkin said that he could no longer give it all he had and I'd say that's where Blight is at.
Stan Alves has also stated that he couldn't do it again.
It must really take it out of them. Mentally straining.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you.

But, you can mentally strain me all you like for $800, 000 a year.

If the unthinkable happens, which is looking more like a certainty every day, we should get Roos. Cos Sydney is where we will be soon after. Do NOT underestimate what Pagan means to our club and its members. As ive said many times b4, we are becoming an incubator……what happens when we cant afford our next coach or our next gun player?. 92.5% of the cap, will limit our success and will play a major role in Pagan’s decision.
Would any of this be enuff to stop me buying a membership? No, or anyone else on this board? I would think not. But almost all of us here are hardcore supporters, how many will buy memberships when they know best we can hope for is to be competitive?

Denis just sign the bloooooooooody contract.

hotham :D

Denis stated last week that as the contract involves a number of other parties, eg the Herald Sun, that he would not make a decision until he had spoken to everyone involved. To me this means that Denis is at least considering the offer as opposed to the contract put to him mid season which he rejected straight away.

Geoff Walsh has said that he does not expect a decision until the middle of the month so we will all have to be patient for a bit longer.

I am still optimistic that Denis will stay. Should he leave I really don't know who I would like to take over although "Roos to coach the Roos" has a nice ring to it.

Firstly... Pagan must stay... and I for one will be disappointed if he does not re-sign... to me if he can't settle for what the club has put together... (I don't know what it is but presume it is around 1000% better then the average bloke gets... to me that is fair enough...) that says far more about the man then anything he ever does before or after that...

now if he does go... we will have to think about a plan B...

Quite frankly we are in some sh*t if Pagan left, but IF he did my candidates would be: (in no particular order)

Malcomn Blight
Stan Alves
Paul Harrington

Come to think of it, i would actually like Harro. It's better to introduce new coaches into the AFL comp and not keep on recycling coaches, unless in situations like you are the club Denis is going to.

I'll do the job for nothing, provided I get a steady supply of pies and beverages during the game.

Er... hang on, on second thoughts it might be cheaper to re-sign Denis. ;)
